Joo Won gets his leading lady in Bridal Mask
by girlfriday
Now that we have our hero Joo Won and our villain Park Ki-woong, upcoming sageuk action blockbuster Bridal Mask (Gaksital) is moving on to its leading lady: rookie actress Jin Sae-yeon, who is currently headlining the daily drama My Daughter Flower. You might also recognize her from smaller roles in The Duo or It’s Okay Daddy’s Girl, but overall she’s a relatively new face.
Bridal Mask is a period piece set in the 1930s, during the Japanese occupation of Korea. It’s an adaptation of a comic book about a freedom fighter who wears a bridal mask to keep his identity hidden as he fights injustice, as superheroes like to do. It doesn’t say much about the heroine, but I’m guessing she gets rescued a time or two. Let’s hope she also does a little fighting back of her own.
At the helm is PD Yoon Sung-shik (Story of a Man) along with writer Yoo Hyun-mi (Green Rose). The production boasts a 10-billion won budget, and with talented up-and-comers like Joo Won and Park Ki-woong in the lead roles, it’s gaining a lot of interest and buzz. It’s certainly the May show to beat on my excitement meter. I pretty much can’t wait to see Joo Won kickin’ ass and takin’ names.
Bridal Mask held its first script reading on the 3rd, and premieres in May on KBS.

Is it wrong to say that my interest in this drama is dwindling by the minute? The Japanese colonial period in drama is very rarely covered in kdrama, and so I was definitely curious about this and wondering whether or not it would be gearing towards covering Freedom Fighter Lee Hoe-young territory -- in spite of it being a Manhwa adaptation.
Instead it seems to be taking a heavier premise but skewing towards a younger audience a la Warrior Baek Dong-soo.
It might turn out pretty cool, and Park Ki-woong is so promising, Joo Won's hit and miss with me and Jin Se-yeon's OK, if a little static in her daily drama. Still, whinging aside, I'll give it a chance.

I just hope that he get some rest between the two dramas or maybe holiday!!

OMG with that budget the costumes are going to be amazing!
I would love to dress that tall, ooh, mess of man.
With the pocket watch chain, shoulder padded pin stripes, dapper ties, wing tips!

I absolutely adore Joo Won, and Park Ki Woong is just crazy charismatic, he's like the saving grace of the hot mess that is The Musical. Have never heard of the girl, but hopefully there'll be lots of awesome chemistry!

Well, she seems okay. Young sweet innocent Manga-like heroine. Owh, I just found out that she's from a big Agency too... Together with Ha Ji Won and Kim Nam Joo.
She's doing quite an impressive work.. I've watched her once in KBS Drama Special.. the story about the lesbian couples.. she's in it.. acted as a school girl.
I hope she can cope with Joo Won and Park Ki Woong skillful acting. Lucky her to be in a drama with 2 hotties!!

AUGHH, she was terrible in Daddy's Girl! She was paired with Donghae and lemme tell ya, they were about on par with each other, acting-wise.
Then again, everyone was pretty bad in that drama, even Moon Chae-won who can be a lot better. So..... there's that.

I watched her in Its Okay Daddy's girl too, So im suprised shes got a leading lady role already. But maybe shes improved in her latest drama.
But this is a Joo Won drama, who I love so whoever they cast and whatever the storyline is, Im going to be watching at least the first episode.

Should we be worried that even JB has an opinion on her? Love Joo Won to death but 58 episodes is a long drama plus he had a movie but is he having a break?

Wearing a mask? For all the sudden, I remembered Kang Dong Won in Duelist wearing a mask and fake long white hair. I can imagine Joo Won in the same attire too ^^ Im looking forward to this drama. I just hope the story wont get lame near the end of the drama.

Ooh, she's pretty! If it's generally believed that she's not a good actress, I'm not too worried -- usually when I hear that in Kdrama/Korean movie land, it just means they're not particularly great. Higher standards I guess. Hey, I watch BOLLYWOOD for goodness' sake. I can deal with such shortcomings. : D
