Veggie Store gets its bachelor, broadcaster, and leading lady

It’s confirmed: Ji Chang-wook will take the lead role in the drama series Bachelor’s Vegetable Store, which will air on cable (surprise surprise) on Channel A. The news was teased a while back after Yoon Shi-yoon dropped from the list of candidates, filling his schedule instead with the upcoming Me Too, Flower, and Ji was tapped to fill the slot.

Playing his love interest in her first leading role is Wang Ji-hye, who’s coming off a string of secondary roles in well-received dramas like Protect the Boss and President. Meanwhile, Ji Chang-wook will get rid of his lustrous warrior’s locks (sob) from Warrior Baek Dong-soo to portray the young hero here. Don’t get me wrong, he’s pretty any way you cut it (in this case, “it” being his hair), but it means for the time being we’ll have to say goodbye to this:

The drama is based on the true success story of a young man who turned a tiny (roughly 350 sf) vegetable store into a nationwide franchise. That young CEO, Lee Young-seok, began the operation in 1998 and expanded to 33 stores. A book was published in 2003, and now the story takes to the screen.

I’m pretty satisfied with the casting, since both Ji Chang-wook and Wang Ji-hye are rising stars with comic talent as well as dramatic. And while Ji is actually a year younger than Yoon Shi-yoon, he strikes me has having a more mature vibe, and less of an obvious noona-dongseng gap with Wang, who’s two years older than him. (Not that noona-love is a bad thing. Nope, not at all.)

Bachelor’s Vegetable Store was initially slated to air on cable channel jTBC, but it’s hopped over to Channel A instead. It premieres on December 21.

Oh. Em. Ji Chang-wook! Holy sheeit. How does Korea pull off having boys who are so girl-pretty of face, and sexyfine-as-hell of body? It's messing with me something fierce. I must say, this is the best damned advert for eating your vegetables if I ever saw one.
*runs lips up and down stalk of celery*

I don't have anything intelligent to contribute to this discussion. Sorry.

No. You do NOT want to rub vegetable oil on THIS gumdo master's stomach. Eeeewww! He is old, fat, ugly and bald. I think I threw up in my mouth.

Sore arms from swinging a sword around.

From all the hilarious comments here, I'm thinking this drama could be a groundbreaker in terms of plot: absy guy absily wakes up every morning, strips, scratches abs, showers, oils abs for max UV protection, goes to veggie plot with abs heaving beneath his veggie hoe, plants veggies, oiled (and scratched) abs glistening in the hot sun. Goes home. Showers. Scratches abs. Sleeps. Fastforward two weeks later. Harvest time! Guy harvests veggies, abs heaving beneath his baskets of veggies. Strips. Scratches abs. Showers....you get my drift....What an absmazing veggie plot-less plot!

I'm calling Webster's ASAP -- we MUST make sure the words "absmazing" and "absily" are added to the English dictionary when describing Celery King, walking amongst his veggie plots, glistening with veggie oil all over himself. In slow-mo. Preferably with a halo of light in the background that accentuates his rippling muscles...

Need to make sure this picture is placed right next to the narration, though:

LOL exactly -- It's everywhere! It's everywhere!! Have I just created a 'Wook Roll' instead? :)

I was gonna put up the companion shot from that photoshoot (the one with him in the extremely skimpy running shorts), but couldn't find it last night for some unknown reason... Probably just as well -- I might get TOSsed my salacious behavior. Tee hee.

Anyway. What were we talking about again? Oh yeah... SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! ♥♥♥♥♥♥

Ji Chang-wook has sorta the same look as Lee Min-ho, but he's actually better looking.

JCW did a decent job of acting in WBDS.

Ji Chang Wook captivated me with his good looks & superb acting in WBDS. From there ( I searched cos I could not get enough of JCW) I found him as the adorable Donghae in Smile, Donghae. So I searched more & I watched his photoshoots & interviews. Unfotunately some have no subs. He can sing too! Quite a talent & what a beautiful body to go with his good looks & personality. Some of his interviews showed his shirtless body. Wow!

Maybe we'll get to see more of him shirtless in his vegie shop drama specially if he'd be sweating & get dirty. The weather is warmer during the vegie shop filming. In WBDS, he took off his shirt once for the novice nun to keep warm with. For that CR nagged him with a dirty look, Un poked/acupunctured him for showing off. How many more needles or knife (from the men) would poke him every time he took off his shirt! LOL, seriously...the cold weather must have prevented the shirtless look. Still...fully clothed & imagination...he got my full attention!

Can't wait to watch JCW in his vegie shop. I'd buy my fruits & vegies from him for breakfast, lunch & dinner. I'd volunteer to assist him at the shop & garden. Would he have a fruit & vegie farm as well?

Ji Chang Wook is so adorable, charming...& that infectious smile & grin...I melt! A superb actor. Best wishes to your vegie shop drama JCW!

1.. This is NOT a Wook roll.
2..The award for "that face should not be attached to that body" belongs to Bae Yong-joon.
I am usually a big fan of muscles on not-so-younger guys, but for some reason, these just creep me out.

I didn't like the first picture...and in one or two he just really looks like John Lennon which..all muscle-y, plus, you know, dead..ick. I think that they didn't do a good job with the foundation make-up since he looks kind of...unreal.

But I do have to say that man has a lovely, lovely back. I don't think I've ever seen him in anything.

Sisters-in-Lust, let's close out this thread with something impressive I found while re-watching the WDBS Special Episode to help with the subbing project. (Note: This is NOT a Wook-Roll. I promise! :) )

This all happens about 15 seconds into the episode. Sorry for the lousy screencaps -- even after running the ep through Final Cut Pro, they're still kinda fuzzy. And although here Vitamin Ji is not coated in veggie oil and moving in slow-mo, while a halo of light in the background is accentuating his rippling muscles, with a cascade of water running slowly down his rock-hard abs... he is still wet, shirtless and absworthy. Good enough for me!!

Got to agree that Ji Chang-wook is more suitable to play this character than Yoon Shi-yoon. The reasons is Ji Chang-wook is able to portray a tough, leadership and matured character yet caring and able to express his emotions delicately at the same time. I've seen Yoon Shi-yoon in Baker King. His acting is still abit raw and sometimes he tend to over-express his emotions.
