Park Bo-young’s Unidentified Video looks at 2012 release
by javabeans
Fans waiting to see Park Bo-young (Speedy Scandal) will have to wait just a bit longer, as the release for her upcoming movie Unidentified Video has been pushed back to next year. Unidentified Video, a horror movie with some Ringu similarities, was initially planning for a summer release — since summer is the season for horror — but resources were stretched with distributor Showbox also putting out blockbuster war film The Front Line.
While entries in the horror genre often end up being throwaway popcorn flicks, this one stars a pretty promising cast of up-and-comers. Aside from Park, who’s considered one of the premier actresses of her generation, the movie also features Joo-won and Kang Byul, both of whom made splashes with their dramas last year — he with Baker King Kim Tak-gu, and she with sageuk Kim Suro.
It’s been a long time since Park Bo-young was onscreen, having been kept from work because of a few legal disputes. It’s a bummer to have such a fresh talent sitting out some prime acting years — Speedy Scandal catapulted her to superstardom, yet she hasn’t been able to do much acting since 2008 — so I’m just happy to have her back.
Below is a teaser for Unidentified Video, which seems like it’s a pretty close Ringu ripoff, with the plot centering around a creepy video that ends in the viewer’s death. One difference: Park Bo-young sets out to help her sister, played by Kang Byul. I’m betting there’s a solid twist, though, since this can’t be a total copy of the Ringu and expect to scare, or even surprise. Even if I’m such a wuss that I’d probably be burying my face in my hands even if I knew what exactly was going to happen. Hey, you call it cowardice, I call it self-preservation. When people are out there clicking on random scary videos and getting themselves killed, I’ll be safe and alive and blissfully oblivious.

Korean Horror films aren't even scary. xC
We'll see if I give this one a chance to prove me wrong.
I was already disappointed, though I don't know why since I've known for a long time now how scary Korean horror films are to me, by The Cats.

When I was a kid I use to crave horror films, now I just can't do it anymore. It's like the older I get the more of a wuss I become. Hahaha. But I might just check this out for Park Bo-young. X)

This is like a mix between The Ring and One Missed Call and I agree with the above comment that a majority of korean movies aren't even scary at least what I've seen but I still end up being scared only because of the suspense more than the actual scary parts :\
