So Ji-sub and Han Hyo-joo’s sad romance in Only You

Posters and stills are out for Only You, the movie starring So Ji-sub and Han Hyo-joo in a “beautiful but sad” love story, which appears to be So’s specialty. (See also: I’m Sorry, I Love You, What Happened In Bali, and Road No. 1. The man has tragic romance down to an art form.)

Han Hyo-joo plays Jung-hwa, a woman who has lost her sight in an accident but maintains a positive outlook. On the flipside is So Ji-sub as Chul-min, a former boxer with a dark past. Just once I’d like to see that dynamic flipped — nihilistic heroine paired with an optimistic hero. Just to mix things up a little, you know what I mean? Why does it always have to be the pure, sweet woman who turns around the man’s dark/cold/emotionally inaccessible worldview? I think the setup has long lost its punch, and the cliches need a little shakeup. Chungmuro, get on it!

The posters play with the whole vision concept as they cover each other’s eyes in turn. From the description and promos, it looks like this won’t necessarily be tragic melodrama (as in, death, disease, and gnashing of teeth), but I think it’s fair to expect it to come at us full-on with the melodrama.

Only You plans to release in theaters later this year.

LOVE So Ji Sub, not a huge fan of Han Hyo Joo. But like others mentioned, I wish SJS took on a different project. This movie seems sooo cliche...a storyline that tons of music videos and dramas and movies emulate...argghh. The movie that I wish So Ji Sub took on is Gong Yoo's upcoming "The Crucible." Can you imagine SJS in that?!! Because I CAN! eeeekkk! He'd be so good... But Gong Yoo's got first dibs since he practically envisioned the creation of the movie from just reading the book.

Watch this movie yesterday.

Oh my, i just Love it so much (>_<) yes, the story is kinda cliche and old, but it bring back some nostalgic feeling to me. Only You warming my heart with its love story

The execution is well done. With beautiful cinematography (and actor who can portray the character well ), I can watch it for hours and already full.

I'm a sucker of Korean drama nowadays.

It's better late than never....coz' i was able to watch this movie of Han Hyo Joo and So Ji Sub.

And bet you, i cried a river on the scene...where I thought SJS ,died.

Always will forever have a spot in my heart as one of my favorite Korean Love Story made into a movie.

Thank Goodness for its writer...coz, it's a sweet ending.

This movie showed us how to love unconditionally and learn the true value of LOVE.

Han Hyo Joo and So Ji Sub have great chemistry on-screen. Wishing dramagods to reunite them in a TV drama this time around.

"nihilistic heroine paired with an optimistic hero." ...hmm.. can't think of a film off the top of my head but i think there was a bit of that in History of Salaryman, Jung Ryu Won and the happy Lee Bum soo ? :D

Some sexual assaults are not as graphic, as in the movie but they hurt the psyche, just as much. I work with a very pretty nurse, " Tiny," not her God given name and she is 5'6", so is average height but extremely timid. Her timidity, shakes my conscious at times. I probably do not understand her culture. She was in a room, getting ready to start an IV and draw bloods, when she dropped the angio on the floor. She bends over to pick it up and the man puts his hand on her behind and moves it up her back, under her shirt, according to the aide. She stood right up and said, "oh my, no, don't do that." After I spoke to her I called the police. She was visable shaken and trying not to cry. She refused to talk about it or press charges because she was " too embarrassed." I said, why are you embarrassed? Because it happened to me, she said. Angry, I went into the room and flipped his bed in trandelenberg position, slapped up the side rails, looked very close into his dead eyes, and said you do that again to anyone else or her and you will never use that arm again. Oh, and by the way, take a good look at me because i am now your nurse. The police were at the door and warned him, he would go to jail the next time. Come to find out, he was a level 3 offender and no one on the unit knew about it. That info had fallen between the cracks. Sexual assult is demeaning, the person feels embarrassed that it happened to them, and the effects can last a life time. Girls born and bread in this country have mostly gotten beyond the point that " it was my fault." Thank God

As usual I am very late to the party, having discovered Kdramas during the pandemic. But I had to write a note about Only You. I liked this one a lot, cliches and all.

I tried to watch the movie Blind, out just a couple of months before this one (not sure why blind characters were a thing in 2011?) I couldn't even finish Blind because it was so awful. The blind woman in that one was pretty helpless, and if her dog was actually trained whoever did the training was clueless because no guide dog would ever behave like that one. Ridiculous.

I am a teacher for children who are blind, so it annoys me when characters are portrayed as helpless!!! In Only You, the lead character was a competent adult with a job, an apartment, and she was able to get around town and take care of herself. She was happy and upbeat. Her white cane skills could have been better, the medical eye info didn't make much sense, and you don't just pick up a puppy to later be a guide, but overall this was a much more believable character than most film depictions of blind people. So kudos show.

Chemistry was also good between these actors, and the plot though cliche worked well, happy ending and all. It was funny because I just finished watching Master's Sun and did not realize So Ji Sub was in both until I began watching this film!! So, those of you wanting a rom com with him, there is one now! Cheers :)
