Song Seung-heon’s Ghost screens in LA
by javabeans
Listen up, Song Seung-heon fans: If you’re in the LA area, you’ll get a chance to pop in to see his move Ghost: Invisible Love, aka the remake of the Ghost film starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore from ye olden ’90s. (Seriously, they’ve even got the famous pottery-wheel scene.) The movie begins screening tomorrow, February 25, so be sure to set aside some time for some Song Seung-heon ogling. Yeah, there’s a plot too, but I’m sure you’ve all seen the original?
It also stars Japanese actress Matsushima Nanako, who’s from the Ringu movies, although I know her better as the older sis from the Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers) franchise.
Courtesy of CJ Entertainment, Dramabeans readers get a discount to watch the film at Koreatown’s CGV Cinemas (the same theater that gave us giveaway tickets for Hello Ghost). Just print out the above coupon and take it with you to the theater to redeem. Easy as that!
We’ve talked about this movie a couple times before, and the Japanese-Korean co-production was released at home last fall. Lest you think it’s a cheesy scene-for-scene remake of the original, it boasts one key difference: The one who dies and revisits the lover is the woman, not the man — which is, let’s be honest, probably a good thing given Song’s rather limited (1) Japanese, and (2) melo skills. (Oh, the guy can do the glowering action star act in his sleep; it’s heartfelt emotion that his bot-programming has yet to master.)
The movie is in Japanese, and screens with Korean subtitles. (I know, it’s too bad there’s no English subs, but again, we’re mostly watching this for The Pretty, right?)

I SUPPOSE THOSE WHO ARE INCLINED IN MOVIE PRODUCTIONS CAN BE THE ONE QUALIFIED TO JUDGE SUCH MOVIES.
I LOVE HOW THE KOREAN ACTOR SONG HEUNG HEON ACTED IN THIS MOVIE. GIVEN THE FACT THAT HE'S NOT THAT GOOD IN SPEAKING JAPANESE, HE HAS DONE HIS BEST IN DOING IT AND I'LL GIVE HIM AN EXCELLENT REMARK TO THAT. THOUGH, HE HAS INLY FEW DIALOGUES IN THIS MOVIE, I CAN SAY THAT HE'S A GREAT ACTOR FOR I CAN FEEL WHAT HE IS TRYING TO EXPRESS THROUGH HIS ACTING SKILLS AND LITERALLY, THAT IS HOW AN OUTSTANDING ACTOR IS DEFINED.
GO SONG SEUNG HEON! People around the world not only Koreans, admire you for your great achievements!

Seriously, the man is molded too perfectly to be human. I can say the same for a lot of yummy actors out there! :P
Anyway, watching Ghost once was enough. I cant sit through anything sad more than once.

Ooh, Matsushima Nanako! I loved her best in GTO!
But if I remember correctly, I think the Demi Moore role was the more emotional one in terms of expressing sorrow and disbelief? The Patrick Swayze role was more the action star one, and his emotions were more geared towards confusion and anger with some levity added in (in his scenes with the Whoopi Goldberg character)? Well, it's been awhile since I last saw the movie. But if the movie is like Ghost, there was much more focus on the Patrick Swayze character, so ya, I guess it was best hat Matsushima took that role.

When I first saw the interviews for this movie with the Japanese actors I wasn't too excited as it seemed a poor remake.
But now seeing the clip above I'm thinking about it differently as it no longer looks to be a cheesy version of the original but a new version cheesy in its own right.
And hey which Song Seung-heon fan would pass up an chance to see him running around with his shirt off. (Please note the last part is my wishful-thinking.)
Thanks for the heads up JB!

I really dont see what the big deal is about this guy. Yes he looks good but he is as stiff as a board when it comes to acting imo. Rom com is much more fitting for him because it hides some of his flaws.
I love the original but I dont know about this.

I suppose those who are on inclined in movie productions can be the one qualified to fairly judge such movies.
I love how the Korean actor Song Seung Heon acted in this movie. Given the fact that he's not that good in speaking Japanese, he has done his best in doing it and I'll give him an excellent remark to that. Though, he has only few dialogues in this movie, I can say that he's a great actor for i can feel what he is trying to express through his act and literally, that is how an outstanding actor is defined!

Just curious, how did Song Seung Hun become a Hallyu star if his acting is really THAT bad? Lol.
Didn't he become famous through his autumn in my heart role? And isn't that a melo-drama as well? So shouldn't he be pretty skilled at acting in melo films/dramas?

I know !!! LOOL
I never watch any of his dramas (even though I enjoy DB/GF recaps of My Princess), so I never knew how BAD he is.
Now....I know.
I couldn't help but laugh as soon as he began to speak in the teaser, and that's not a good news since it's supposed to be....a melo-drama, as you pointed out.

SSH is the most beautiful man in Korea.
A large part of his success is based on his looks.
He is not the worst actor of all time, I don't think. He is convincing in his roles, if not outstanding. Despite some missteps with the army and stuff, he has not stopped working since he turned professional, so he can't be awful.
He seems like a fun guy to be around, and isn't demanding.
Pair him with good co-stars and high profile projects and you get a star.
For me even more of a mystery - How the hell did Hasselhoff get to be as popular outside of the US as he did?

R, he did become famous in the Autumn role but he made me cringed everytime he appears on screen in that series. [it's THAT bad - esp the hospital scene]. anyway, that's why Won Bin became THE famous 2nd lead cos WB is just waaaaaay better.
doesnt matter, i still like SSH as a nice eye candy and his bot acting didnt deter me from watching East of Eden (though improved slightly from Autumn). Of course he's adorable in Princess & now am so gonna watch Ghost.
