Queen of Reversals’ future still in limbo
by javabeans
Queen of Reversals is STILL not sure if it’s going to extend the drama, and MBC has announced that it will base its decision on the ratings performance of this week’s episodes. The series was originally scheduled for 20 episodes, then announced that it would add 2 episodes, then followed that with an announcement of a potential 10-episode extension on top of that.
I can’t believe they are deciding about the future of the show when this week’s episodes are the drama’s 17th and 18th. This latest information was provided by a senior executive with MBC’s drama department, who stated, “For the extension to be decided, Queen of Reversals‘ 17th and 18th episodes will have to have viewership ratings of more than 17%.”
Too bad it has only been averaging 11%-12% in the ratings thus far. MBC is either being VERY hopeful about a drastic upswing now that SBS’s Giant is over, or it’s giving the drama a half-assed chance to “prove itself” this late in the game. Are they forgetting that Athena premieres this week??
Plus, MBC still hasn’t decided which drama will follow Queen of Housewives, which makes them seem rather precipitate for dropping Birdie Buddy without a concrete plan. The next show would fill the gap until the upcoming anticipated drama The Duo (aka 짝패), whose production has undergone some delays, is ready to air. Talk about cutting it close. And you wonder why you have no hits anymore, MBC?

LOL to Cam! =D
YES, I agreed with you, Estel -- I can't believe that this dumb MBC didn't have to start thinking something so right -but.......NOTHING to think about people who work so hard like crews, of course. =/
What happened to your empty-retarded brain in your head, MBC? --_______--

Javabeans, you write this about Queen of reversals when you don't even watch it, right?
It went up around 17% today's real time rating. Queen of reversal is peaking up and receiving more viewers and positive reviews these days. I guess MBC knows better than you.

that's not very nice. jb is posting what information she has, there's no need to slate her like that. it may be that QoR is peaking at this late stage, but it still means that MBC being undecided at this late stage is doing neither QoR nor its upcoming replacement any favours. How are you supposed to plan for an extension (script and filming) this late in the game when you don't even know if the extension will go through?

I just started to watch it, although at times the storyline IS predictable, the actors makes it worthwhile.

If you reread the post, you'll see that jb doesn't say anything derogatory about QoR. She's not saying that QoR is so bad that it'll never reach the 17% target; she's saying that it doesn't seem likely to hit 17% this week given the past trend and the start of Athena. It's not like she said: good riddance of a bad drama.
And anyway, while we're all free to disagree, we should do it graciously. This is, after all, jb's home and we're just the visitors.
I hope we don't get another visit from Santa. Although, thanks to Santa, I've started to read the comments, which has provided some additional laughs.
Thanks to jb and gf for all the work entertaining us. Seriously: your work is appreciated. I wouldn't be able to put up with the stuff you get for providing this voluntary service.

MBC is good at messing around with their dramas. It never do the drama any service by being indecisive. They did the same with Personal Taste. There were rumours of extending it to 20 for a few weeks. Why don't they just stick to whatever decision and let the production crew do their job. Stop just thinking of ratings. If you produce a good drama, the ratings will follow in most cases.

Now, that "Giant" has ended, people will watch QOR, instead of "Athena". Is that the logic behind the MBC executives' decision to extending the show? If so, they're banking on a lot.
"Athena" would have to be absolutely horrible, in order for anyone to choose "QOR" over it, especially for the first few episodes.
As for "QOR", it is neither a good or a bad drama. However, the drama is not so high achieving that it warrants defending, especially with 'snarky' language.
As always, thank you to Dramabeans for providing insightful comments and opinions. Regardless of whether I agree or disagree with it.

For the love of... WOW! That puts my planning and managing skills waaaay above these guys and that's saying a lot considering I wrote a 20 page strategic management paper the last minute (um, more like the night before it was due). Dude, these guys need to pull their %#!t together because they're just ruining themselves. X/

While I welcome the chance to see more of Park Shi Hoo, I, too, wonder at MBC's indecisiveness this late in the game. Especially if it means QoR will be going up against a highly anticipated show as Athena. Thanks for the update!

Thank you so much, JB for the news! I guess it's all about rating after all. As much as I want to see more Park Shi Hoo, I don't want a messy plotline because of MBC's last minute decision for extension.

PSH is the business!! I love Queen of Reversals, but I've been waiting for what seems like forever for Athena. I'll take the two episode extension, but ten is ridiculous.
