I love Secret Garden, but I'm not very hooked yet.. There is some parts where I don't like with this drama.... Maybe I should ignore them, so i can enjoy this drama more
This week, which is known as "hell week" or "dead week" to us college kids, was really hard to get through but I'm almost done with this semester! Yays! The only thing that got me through this week was my music and dramas! Heehee.
i know what you mean! im in grad school but there's still examsand tons of work1 thanks for the song! this weekend and this week is going to be a sad sad one!
I am so so frustrated... I tried downloading the latest episode of Secret Garden, but I don't have a premium account in Megaupload, so my download keeps on getting broken. I've tried downloading for 7 times already... but to no avail. I wanna cry...
I have some bad news for you, and some good news. First, you don't have to download anything. Dramacrazy, MySoju, Viki, Veoh, and Hulu all let you stream the episodes to your computer, so that's good stuff. Not so good stuff is that it doesn't matter what you do on the Internet anymore if you have an IBM compatible computer, one of those things is going to have a virus. If you want to download, you're going to have to ask Diadda's advice, 'cause I just don't do it.
thanks.. I use Trend Micro Internet Security Pro and I still don't trust many sites... hehee, I suffered from a trojan in my previous laptop and I didn't bother fixing it. I just threw it out..
I've been streaming eps for a while now but I wanted to get a hardcopy in my hard drive.. hence, download :)
I use ESET (AV) + Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware = the BEST combo
I installed Avira AV Personal into my little sister's laptop + Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and those been doing a good job cleaning after her habits. All freewares.
It's the weekend! I have so much stuff to do. Decembers.
I totally didn't take off Monday and Tuesday because of Giants last two episodes. No way. Never.
I just.. happened to have days off... yep....
....
... *coughs*
Also, last episode was like WOAH and then there was like UNEXPECTED and then there was like EVIL LAUGHING and also HAIR CHANGING ACTION and then like PLOT PROGRESSION and then like oh man it's gonna end in two hours. (weep, weep)
jb: i think in one of your recent articles/recaps you asked why cant characters in kdrama be normal people and not chaebols (oh wait i remember, for the article for My Princess). just realized that What's up, fox IS about non-chaebol people :) the lead male is a car mechanic. that drama was so refreshing :D but its also pretty low key. i guess by defaulting a main character as a chaebol, writers can easily create conflicts and plot points. which makes it interesting that US shows usually dont need to rely on this tactic to create the drama in their drama...but then again not a lot of US shows have the continuous plot throughout episodes like Asian dramas. it might just be easier to do self-contained episodes.
i seriously dont know where i was going with this. just some rambling to pass time & wait for SG :D
I did absolutely nothing today! I slept haha.
good time. but so much work this weekend. :(
anyways, no time for drama. maybe ill squeeze in something tonight not sure, might just watch tv.
I feel so cold, listless, tired, lazy and unmotivated nowadays, the worst feelings ever. I want to be lively and motivated again, maybe, I'm doing something wrong in my life.
early twenty's life crisis? lol i dont know.
enjoyed reading all of your rants!
yay for the weekend!
Anyone else out there prepping for finals? My quarter has sucked this fall, mostly beacuse when I should have been studying I was either watching dramas or stalking this site for recaps. And yes, I'm old enough to know better, and no, I dont seem to care.
same here. i have finals in about 2 weeks and even though i have study guides and homework to do, all i have been doing today is going on different Kpop or Kdrama websites. Oh! the life of a student who is also addicted to kdrama/pop, it is suck a distraction. If only somebody like Baek Seung Jo were real then he can do our finals for us (and maybe help us study ;))
Y'all, if you have finals that are approaching, you may not return to this website until you have done at least two hours straight of studying. Then you may read this site for approximately 30 minutes, but then its right back to studying! I promise, we will wait for you to be here! You can even come back to this thread later this week, but the important thing is that you study!
I'm going to be sending out my psychic pigeons to check on everyone. I expect to see your desk lamps on, your graphic organizers out, and at LEAST two different color highlighters! Your computers should not be showing anything but text and illustrations that pertain to your subjects. If I see anyone who is not studying and should be, my pigeons will report and then I'm gonna call your mama!
oh, everyone knows about the infamous sparkly tracksuit, right?
this performance reminded me of it. it's rookie group SISTAR singing with their 3rd single 니까짓게 (How Dare You) on Music Core this weekend. notice the sparkly "tracksuits"...i believe their concept was sporty with a chic urban look or something like that. anyways, here's the link. (they are very good live singers, by the way) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2kFES5dlOg&feature=player_embedded#!
Joo Won sparkly tracksuit on the top, Ra Im leather butt kicking hot pants on the bottom. Check.
Sidebar: I liked their other songs better, I don't know how I feel about this song..... Also, am I supposed to like T-aras new song or hate it with a passion. Because I like it, but when MC Mong did a "Native" theme there was issues... Eh, what the heck... It's the Open Threads favorite Gumiho hunter; No Min-woo!
All I can say is that the "Sista" in Purple and "short, short, shorts" is "Hot, Hot, Hot", MMMMMM"YUMMY"!
I just hope shes over 18 so I do not sound like a "Perv"!!!!
Muahahahahah!!!!
I just finished watching "T-ara's" new video ""Why Are You Being Like This" and I still believe that "Ham Eun Jung" she is one of the most "Beautiful Idol Girls" in Korea, she was criticize a lot about her looks in "CH", but man she looks "Gorgeous" in her "Vintage Look" in this video!!!!!
Hey all, keep forgetting to investigate this one...in K-drama saunas do people eat cooked or raw eggs? I've gone with the former assumption but I am a little doubtful because for some reason I never see the actual egg!
I think it's more of a matter of preference: traditional or western. Same with many other things - eating, lounging, etc. There are many Koreans who still prefer the traditional way, especially the elderlies. Economics can also play into it, since there are people who simply can't afford all the western furniture for their homes. Plus if ur closer to the floor, you make the most out of the heating system.
Random question but I've been so incredibly frustrated about this. Anyone here know about Costco's Tiramisu cake? It's absolutely heavenly. Creamy, delicious, just perfect.
I had once last holiday season and have never seen it since. I keep calling them, going by, but nope, nope they never have it.
So to all fellow Costco-goers, have you seen this cake at your store? I'm willing to trade my life for it. *drool.
friggin love costco! I haven't tasted the Tiramisu cake yet, but I'll definitely be on the look out now. Costo on sundays is especially fun cuz they have free samples everywhere :)
lolz since I do the same, I'll hold my tongue. But seriously look out for the Tiramisu. It's AMAZING...whenever they do make it. Those jerks, playing with my heart like that.
You could try asking an employee (They'll likely not know, the only place that works in is usually Trader Joe's). Or you could just try writing customer service, they usually write back quickly because no one ever writes them!
All this cake talk makes me htink about cake. Mmm, cake.
javabeans are you an indie band fan?? hahaha totally random question.. its just i listened to one you posted about Blair..well i kinda like it.. can you recommend any good indie rock? thanks : ) i read your blog.. super lurve it!!
Just watched Ep 8 of secret garden, just loved it, I haven't been excited by a drama for a long time and its super fun to watch it. Thanks JB and Girlfriday for recapping it.
Bro,
Giant: can't believe it'll all be over on Tuesday. :(
Yeah, that was totally unexpected! But too numb to cry, just rearing to see what happens. But it's cool in a way; An Enemy Hidden. Also, I like that that character's had that hair before, too.
But seriously man, some folk say the show's been dragging? Really? Where?
I wish!
Am I the only one who's feeling it's all happened a little abruptly? And would've appreciated a little more calm-before-the-storm quiet time?
Cos now it's all up in flames and it's breaking my heart. :(
Saengchori 5: continues to bring the funny, but must not watch it as I'm eating, ever again.
In other news:
I recently watched First Marriage (ugh, 'nother vacant-ass title) and thought to share my thoughts. It's a drama special, set in 1930s-40s Korea, about a bunch of gypsies, in an era where gypsy women were treated lowlier than gisaeng, by the yangban. Not usually my cup of tea and I usually steer far away from Tess of the D'urberville-esque stories… I cringe, so, so bad. But I'm glad I did, as it was quite nicely done. Plus, I needed something short to whet my appetitie for some serious sageuk, and at two episodes, this was ideal. It was a compelling little piece with good acting, cinematography, score with a decent amount of charming, heartwarming and imaginative little moments. It's sort of what Seol-hwa's story would've been in Chuno if she hadn't escaped with the slave hunters, except grittier, heartfelt and the gypsies were a nice bunch of folk.
The lead actress was wonderful in what it seems was her TV debut (she MUST be a theatre actress or something, she's a natural) and the male lead, played by Hotelier's Park Jung-chul. I could barely recognise him, I mean, he's all manly now -- RAWR. But it isn't for the faint of heart, it begins to lay on the drama pretty thick in the second hour.
And QSS: whoa whoa whoa! Smack-jang-errific! Watched up to episode 10 and couldn't continue, so I skipped to the last episode and watched the ending, since I was curious to see who ends up getting shot by whom. And that's that. Just not my kinda show, yo!
I can't believe it - that you DO NOT like QSS. It is not my cup of tea but it is a very fine drama indeed. In fact, Eric's performance is so unexpectedly good that moves me to tears and I feel for his pain (though inflicted 110% none other than by himself).
I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it. Eric is kind of apathetic until the bitters ends, and it does go overkill on the makjang at what I believe was episode 10... with the slappage... and the throwing n' what not.
It's not my favorite show or even top ten but it has its merits in as a more dark, adult show.
Right now I was trying to get through the first two episodes of Genya, which is from the write of Byakuyako, but then I remembered how much I despise Fukada Kyoko. Man, someone come out of the blue and try to set me straight because I just.. can't.. stand her.
I had a feeling you wouldn't really like Que Sera Sera because of the themes. Have you seen the Bae Soo Bin KBS special yet? If you haven't it will remedy all the bad of QSS. I guarantee it, 100% fo sho'
I dunno epyc, maybe there was a prerequisite to watching this show, which was to have liked Eric beforehand, like unconditionally. I've never seen Eric in anything before, so went in with this blank slate all primed for him to win me over. Sure, he's good looking, and sure he's a decent enough actor, however, his character left a lot to be desired, a lot! What he did in episode 9 was the last straw. But what's worse was Jung Yu-mi's character. I adored her in the start but I felt let-down by how insipid she became, and spineless, yet she refused to apologise to the guy she'd cheated on. Maybe I needed to be in a different mindframe to have understood their characters better. But both of them lost me completely.
And maybe GHJ's ass-kickin' Hye-rin (or rather Go Hyun-jung and Lee Seung-yun in everything) has set the standards for all the female drama characters I watch hereforth. Or at least I like a good power-balance between leads (take HJW and JIS in a similarly themed WHIB for example) to keep things watchable.
But then it's all subjective. It's not about the quality as much as it's about what clicks for you and this -- didn't click for me.
bro,
Eric's all yours babe.
Will watch the BSB special. It's defs on my must-see list.
Plus the female lead in that is one of my fave k-actresses since 4evah!
I need to have a rant about handcuffs. They can be removed with bolt cutters and they can be removed by any police officer. In Runaway Plan B they used handcuffs to make a couple closer. It worked and was very good even for that camp driven show. It made sense to have it like that. Both of them had multiple layered reasons for being handcuffed and staying that way. He was a prisoner and captured.
I just finished an episode of another drama where the same concept was used and they failed to give reasons for them staying together other than we don't have a key...huh? They aren't locked up any where, and hey have freedom to move throughout the city, but it doesn't occur to either of them to get the dang things taken off? All that being said the payoff scene for it was hysterical!
did not want to cause spoilers for msoan episode 8 :) but needed to vent a bit. Why could they not take them off aside form the writers needing to force them to be together. Iy was like Seoul has no locksmiths, no bolt cutters and no police stations. So handcuffs will be on you no matter what, forever until somebody gets the original key.
The writer could have forced the same scenes by making time constraints preventing them from getting to those things that would get them out of the handcuffs. Or even introduce a new linking or bonding agent like the band members making it a scavenger hunt for the key and they have to work together to get the key back. She has to preform with the band, they have to go out to meet there parents. (ie both mothers). That might distract them enough from thinking of how to take off the handcuffs. especially since they never really wanted to get out of them anyway.
Yeah msoan was totally off my radar. Handcuffs are the mobile version of being stuck in the elevator. Oh, tv tropes. I would like to see some more inventive ways for people to be stuck together. I think we need and OT think-tank running on this. (Puts on glasses and lab coat)
I still have nothing. I'll think of a good one. Just you wait.
Happy belated birthday to Park Hyo Shin...My favorite male singer.
Heartbreak because he will be leaving for military service as this month comes to a close.
Giant 59:
OMGGGG!
OMGGGGGGG!
I love the way they've done it. It's solid.
I will be so frucking disappointed tomorrow if they don't do something I'm hoping they will do. Was hoping they'd put me out of misery sooner, but nope, let's hang on till the very bitter end then.
Hoping upon hope.
What's it gonna be then, Giant?
One word: dignified. Please.
OK....I am just finished with Last Scandal...how can a drama get better at the end than at the beginning!
I had started it some time ago and got sidetracked, so I picked it back up, I am so glad I did. Wonderful actors working with a story that ( to me) didn't have half the promise of some of the dramas offered now.
I also saw you, Javabeans, in the 'credits'..cool stuff! smile
I know a lot of you have seen this and it's in the past, but thats the beauty of internet watching! an old gem can become a new gem! and this is one for me.
I know about the lead actress..but I prefer to remember her in her work.
Just needed someplace to say this and couldn't wait!
Janna, wherefore art thou? I NEED someone to flail with over Giant's final cliffhanger moment. OMGGGGGG!! Who could've guessed that?? Did you? *flail-fistinmouthexcitedscream-flail-fistinmouthstiflingscreams*
Only feels like yesterday when I first watched the trailer ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrkuUf-bXOM ) and my jaw dropped as I was like; 'wah, this be so GANGSTAH…ommaaaaaa!' And as yet, I'm still as entranced. The final episode better not disappoint us. And there's only one thing that can disappoint, only one (which is ultimately two things rolled into one, but y'know, still the same one thing).
Aaaaargh! *stamping feet in frustration* -- *and... fistinmouthstiflingexcitedscreaming* *andflailing*
-- *breaking all grammar rules but not caring*
I've been visiting a family member at a hospital while a parade of neurosurgeons talk of cancer and brain drilling. ...Lovely. Sometimes I really hate my city when I have to bring out of town people around. There is just a thick layer of rude going on. Calm the f down city. I know we aren't known for politeness but wow. Maybe I'm just opening my eyes to it.
I've realized that half of my posts seem incoherent due to typing on my phone. Phone, c'mon. Stop making me type like a 12 year old. sometimes I do it jokingly but now I look so dumb. Everyone: I'm not that dumb, and when I text message I use punctuation. That should mean something. Maybe.
Now I'm going to watch some Giant and then watch some more Giant because that's what I originally planned to do.
Oh, so sorry to hear that hun *BIG HUG*.
I kinda don't know what to say. Doesn't sound good at all.
Giant, oh, the cliffhanger at the end of 59 was the mother of them all.
I haven't seen the finale yet, I'm just thinking about it and feel like crying.
I'm sorry that happened to you! I'm up for rent tomorrow until 11 if you want me to walk around with you and beat up the mean people who are rude! I've been hiring my services out as a bully recently, and it seems to be having a positive effect (although some girl threatened to take away my TOP.)
I hope that your family member experiences a miracle and does not have to have their brain drilled, barring that I hope you have the world's best surgeon. We're all here wishing that we could hold your hand through this.
Also, after years of teaching public school, I've stopped using things like spelling and punctuation to determine intelligence. It was either that or give up all hope of sanity. The fact that some of your letters are capitalized, you don't use numbers to spell, and that your sentence has some semblance of structure impresses me to no end.
Haha, I'll let you have your TOP. Man his hair is something recently, isn't it? It's like I don't hate it.... but it is also very, very shiny. Silver bells, Silver Bells, it's holiday time in YG Family... ;D
Unfortunately they were just going to drill this morning and do a biopsy today but changed their minds because they couldn't reach the mass and do a full brain surgery. It's rough and odd when someone has their short term memory gone. He thought he was fine, kept asking why he was in the hospital.. and thought that it was 2006. (shrugs)
I got a little pay off by taking my anger and bottling it up and then lashing out on a comment feedback forum. Nothing with strong curse words, just a little heads up to remind employees to be a little less on the rough side during the holiday season. (It wasn't anyone at the hospital, just our piss poor public transit system that everyone hates already.) I mean even I could use the reminder. Keep calm and carry on...
I really should have taken the day off tomorrow, I'll be a complete emotional wreck tonight. I mean, I'm sitting here all misty-eyed at work. Need to find a private little spot to sob in. Alas, can't. Dammit, Seong-mo!
It's like, over! Noooooooooooooo.
I still felt like, we were rushing through things. Bitter ends for some, beautiful for others. I think they forgot about shooting that one scene in the beginning..it almost felt out of place by the time it came. And like, we never see him, and like of all people to kick it, whyyyyy. Lesson to learn: maybe we should have thrown someone in jail sooner? And maybe Min-woo (after seeing him all decked out in black in episode 59) maybe he is the best dressed after all. And, and, and! So much happened. THE CGI, oh man the CGI...
Did I Google maps the address? You bet I did! ... and they don't have street view for it. Boo!
Bro,
Giant 60:
Bittersweet ends for some, BITTER ends for some. Bitter. Bitter.
But it makes sense narratively, spending a lifetime playing with guns... isn't very productive. Follow Gang-mo's lead and build a city. And then lament that it was waaay more fun when there was naught but barren land.
I'm not disappointed, as I was dreading something worse and this was still a good way to wrap things up forever.
So sad. I wept a few times.
About the youngest, I remember laughing hard around the 40-episode mark saying, hey, at least we won't have some Dennis Oh type fresh from US, holding up the crumpled adoption papers saying he's looking for Mr Ree, right?
Cos the real one is so, so gangstah! (I can bet anything there were behind the scenes shenanigans there.) And you're right, there was something a bit off about the return of the flashforward.)
Otherwise, BRAVO, show!
And when I was flailing like an idiot over the end of 59, erm, I guess he didn't say someone's name after all but he was about the Jung-bu/ledger. D'oh! Hahaha!
I know a few people talk about Community (and I love that show) but in five minutes Raising Hope is going to be on and I just wanted to throw out there that I love that show. Haters gon hate and so forth but that baby (well it's really twins) is so super happy/cute and Burt the Dad is the hottest Dad on TV at the moment, wanna argue this? Start dropping names, cause it you know it isn't true, Fo' reals. Even young Burt is hot. Okay, gonna go watch it and stop spamming the open thread for now.
No idea which show this is, but on a seperate note;
There's like no incentive to buy the Giant OST. :(
There's nothing extra in there like the lounge songs or anything of Mi-joo's, and a couple of the score pieces I'm after are not there or in versions I don't like.
Maybe they'll release a special edition sometime?
And the DVD, I want a director's cut! Dammit I need it! The last episode was good, but like you said, it was rushed, they had tonnes to cram in and the editing was a little off in places as a result. In spite of it the character wrap-ups were good. But I was really hoping for a lot of extra nice little touches which I was so accustomed to with Giant, like a last little song from Mi-joo, some snowfall, a trip to Busan, y'know, just for a little extra catharsis. And I'm glad someone's face got blurred out, because we know who it was meant to be and this way we can still imagine it was well, whoever we wished it to be. I'm seriously wondering what happened behind the scenes because they really had the perfect setup for it at the end of 59 and early 60.
Anyways hun, enough musing about the trivial stuff now... *hugs* thinking of your family member. All the best.
Ah, Raising Hope is an American TV show on our FOX network, which always cancels shows early but it seems to be doing well. Of course you can't watch it on Hulu because it hates everyone, but I'm sure it's around somewhere.
Boo hiss to the OST, hoping the DVD has extras...
I imagined it to be Kim Soo Hyun again only he could speak English...er... better Engrish! Where is this Ree fellow? (adjusts monocle) Did I mention he was the heir of some fancypants American company? Let's just say uhhh.. Pepperidge Farm. Plausible! He's here to visit, and he brought a boatload of cookies.
I try to muse about the trivial stuff to keep my mind at ease. :|
Yeeaaaah, I can totally see that. Kim Soo-hyun appearing at the door of the JY-GM dream house, smiling like this… http://i789.photobucket.com/albums/yy176/supah5/Giant/2-6.jpg . With a truck full of Hershey's choco bars in tow (hey, maybe some solid gold bars too, ya know, he be rich now), 'cos we know how fond of those our Gang-mo Ree was. Aaaand Merry Christmas and fun times all around.
Omo! KSH speaking Engrish is officially the cutest thing evah, have you ever heard him? ''Herro, this is my vren', wisterr Han Ban-do''. <3 <3 <3
(Hey, whatever happened to the English handbook? Never cared much for the flip pad, it was that damn book that was invaluable! I want itttttt! Or maybe some people don't want to be reminded of their shoeshiner days. But we must never forget the little shoeshiner with the BIG dreams and no. 1-534.)
Oh man I forgot to write that in my spaz post. I called it ol' flippy. Ol' flippy found his way home! What an awkward couple gift for a pair of adults.
What if someone did the entire story of Giant as a flip-book-esque animated gif with stick figures.
.... You all better hope I never have free time in the coming weeks.
I'm getting over my depressed-weepy-can't-believe-what-happened-and-that-it's-all-over phase faster than I thought, maybe it's because I've been rewatching the very final few minutes of Giant over and over and those final few minutes were truly glorious!
I'm back to simply feeling simply awed and content with its epicness, again.
So, thought I'd share some cool wallpapers with you.
Oh and... this is especially for you, one bro to another bro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z1MafdZYgI
There's the drama version too, which I'm sure you've already seen, but I love this cover (see related vids, if you haven't).
MWAH!
It's ok, this place is kinda deserted at this time of the week, spam it out! spammmmm!!
I'm bored right now at work. My Blackberry is dead. I cannot tweet because it is blocked by our manager.
SO what do I do?!! DB!! HAHA!! good thing our manager does not know DB!
I want to rant/rave about What's Up. I've been following this drama since the beginning of the year especially when IM JOO HWAN was cast!!
YAY for Team PArk Kyu!! ^^
Filming is in progress right now, the trailer just screams AWESOMESAUCE (quoting hjkomo here..lol), and Im Joo Hwan.. well I don't need to explain, right? I'm really a fangirl all the way for this man.
I wish there would be news on its broadcast date. There are rumors that is is for March 2011 premiere on SBS.. but of course, not until it is confirmed I am still feeling very nervous and anxious.
With the news of Birdie Buddy being cut, it really is not helping my anxiety at all.

I've listened to this hundreds of times. Literally. It's sooo pretty. :D

Download some free antivirus and malware protection, (I use AVG anti-virus) and it should protect you. Or, buy yourself an Apple 'cause nobody cares about Apple enough to write any viruses for it. If you want to download, you're going to have to ask Diadda's advice, 'cause I just don't do it.

jb: i think in one of your recent articles/recaps you asked why cant characters in kdrama be normal people and not chaebols (oh wait i remember, for the article for My Princess). just realized that What's up, fox IS about non-chaebol people :) the lead male is a car mechanic. that drama was so refreshing :D but its also pretty low key. i guess by defaulting a main character as a chaebol, writers can easily create conflicts and plot points. which makes it interesting that US shows usually dont need to rely on this tactic to create the drama in their drama...but then again not a lot of US shows have the continuous plot throughout episodes like Asian dramas. it might just be easier to do self-contained episodes.
i seriously dont know where i was going with this. just some rambling to pass time & wait for SG :D

I feel the old teacher mode in me coming out.

Bro,
Giant: can't believe it'll all be over on Tuesday. :(
Yeah, that was totally unexpected!

Maybe.

Bro,

No idea which show this is, but on a seperate note;

Dude, ol' flippy beat any bling. Hate bling as a gift device in dramas. Bling is overrated. But the book..!
Hahaha, yay! Would love to see that. Just as long as you don't go drawing in any non-entities towards the final page. Namsayin'.

What's Up Team.. fighting!!!!
