Park Ki-woong joins The Musical
by javabeans
Park Ki-woong (Chuno, Story of a Man) has been added to The Musical, the drama series starring Gu Hye-sun, Daniel Choi, and Ok Joo-hyun. He’ll play a cool-headed musical producer, and complicates romantic matters as the third leg of the love triangle with Gu and Choi.
Park had first heard about The Musical from director Kim Kyung-yong while he was shooting Story of a Man (aka The Slingshot). When that drama wrapped, he went to Kim as soon as he heard the treatment had come out, and had an instant liking for the character he is now portraying. “Yoo Jin” is the type of man who trusts money over people (although he harbors pain that he keeps hidden from anybody — of course!).
Park felt such enthusiasm for the project that he drew his own sketch of the character and sent it to director Kim, which you can see below. (Drawing is one of Park’s hobbies, as he explained in a previous interview.) The drawing was so similar to the director’s idea of the character that he gave Park a nickname, “Chado Ki-woong,” where “chado” is a shortening of “cold city man” (차가운 도시 남자). After he was cast, Park cut his hair to match the drawing and dyed his lightened hair to a darker brown.
While that type of character is nothing new to dramas, it IS new to Park, who has spent most of his career playing laid-back types, as in Love & Marriage and When Night Comes. I’ve always found Park endearing, but it wasn’t until he took on the role of an autistic financial genius in Story of a Man that he started to show his acting potential. By his own admission, he’d been skating by in earlier roles but took a much more serious, intensive approach to that drama, which in my opinion paid off handsomely.
I’ve been iffy on this drama and I still am, but the addition of Park Ki-woong makes me look forward to it a LOT more.

That is an intense drawing and I approve of the "make-over".
He always looked like a little boy before. In the picture he seems more put together and mature.
Still iffy about the drama. There are a lot of drama's airing in the next couple month that I'm more excited about (at least for now).

While it might be a typical character he's playing, I have confidence that Park Ki-woong will bring depth to the role. His characterization in SOAM was brilliant. I'm also hoping that if he pulls out the stops in his acting, that he'll bring the rest of the cast up to par with him. :)

Yes, Park Ki-woong! I'm still a little ehh...with this drama but PKW is awesome (I was rooting for him in Love&Marriage) so I guess I'll take a look at it, especially since Park's playing a different type of character and he seems really enthusiastic about the role.

OMGOMGOMG! YAY! Park Ki-wong's new drama! I sooooo cannot wait. Even if he's just a third leg (when is he ever gonna play lead??!!! GRRRR) I read the interview about him liking to draw, but he's sooo good. Finally he's getting more meaty roles. Go Park Ki-wong! Fighting! =DD

Oh!!! Love this kid... Has any of you seen him in the KBS 1 Hr Drama City's Love Hunt a cute cougarish love story, of course prior to that was My Tutor 2---Devilishly fun movie, then he played the tormented ex in Love Marriage, then Slingshot---what an awesome prtrayal of his role--he deserved an award and finally a total role reversal as a traitor in Chuno--he stood out, he's quite grown up.. This kid is talented, but he's not a kid but a superbly talented mature actor. Well, those were what I saw--he can be anything... Good luck... He'll bring mucho to anything he's involved in!!!! He still looks childlike but he'll bring huge talent to whatever role he takes on... This will be worthwhile to watch... Thanks JB... I hope this is one you and GF will recap...

Oh wow! What a cool drawing! I heard that johnny depp visualizes character this way too. He would draw 'em out and compare it with tim burton's :D
But I wonder how "cold" he'd be. These types of character are nothing new in kdramas, often said to be cold but there're more of the "tsundere" kind (i.e big old softie inside). The only really cold character I've come across in dramas is the lead character for It Started With A Kiss (ISWAK- the taiwanese version). That dude is ice!

Everyone is giving Korean reference here, but I kinda think he'd fit perfectly in Inception. LOL. The drawing. OMO. It's SO GOOD.

As long as park ki wong's in, then I'm in! Loved him in SOAM, and love him still in Chuno (though the character wasn't that memorable).
I always have crush over men who can draw and my heart flipped the moment I saw the drawing. *swoon*

wow! this drawing just earned him a thousand extra brownie points!! Love the expressiveness on both himself and the drawing. Will he be a worthy contender to join the line of the sexy beasts / sexy bastards we have so far? A girl can hope.
