Runaway adds Daniel Henney to its cast

So Daniel Henney is joining Rain, Lee Jung-jin, and Lee Na-young in spy drama show Runaway, and I’m kinda ambivalent about it.

On one hand, the man is beautiful. On the hand, his acting… not so beautiful. He’s improved since his debut, but not enough for me to get any sort of excited about this. (He was gorgeous and wooden in Sam-soon. Gorgeous and embarrassingly bad in Seducing Mr. Perfect. Better but still inhibited in My Father. And the U.S. medical series Three Rivers made me cringe.)

In Runaway, he’ll form a love triangle between Rain and Lee Na-young’s characters. (I’m guessing the name of that triangle is acute isosceles, wherein he’s the short leg. Seriously, I can’t imagine him being compelling against those two; Rain has serious screen presence and Lee can be mesmerizing.) Henney’s character watches over and protects Lee’s character, “but the details of the character have not yet been decided.” This suggests he wasn’t cast because he fit the script, but that they’ll be creating a role for him. I suppose this means Daniel Henney : Runaway :: Oh Ji-ho : Chuno.

I wonder if Henney will communicate solely in English, as he has in most (all?) of his roles; he speaks pretty good Korean but it seems he’s self-conscious about using it if it isn’t perfect. On the upside, it’ll be nice to have an English-speaking character in a drama actually knowing how to speak English.

Runaway is looking at a September premiere on KBS.

I hope his acting has improved as well, unlike the other comments I don't find him attractive I see me like him all the time in the US. I hope he will speak Korean instead of english.

You know it's really interesting that everyone is being so hard on Daniel Henney, when he hasn't really had all that much acting experience yet, nor has he been given any really good roles.

I thought My Father was a touching film, and I thought he was quite moving in it, but the story was very simple and a little passive. I don't know how he did with speaking Korean though, because I don't speak Korean, but I still enjoyed the film.

I also thought he did a good job in Seducing Mr. Perfect, especially since the whole idea of the two leads speaking different languages was really WEIRD and CONTRIVED in the first place. I mean get real.

And Three Rivers? I'm sorry, but that was a totally sucky premise in the first place. That series' whole problem was that the writing sucked. Not the acting. Actors can only do a good job if everything (script, directing, production values, etc.) comes together and works. Sometimes it doesn't and you get a series like Three Rivers. (Or like A Man Called God...urg.)

Oh yeah, and Henney was also Agent Zero in X-Men... Anyway, please, people, give Henney some credit would ya? He's not a bad actor. Just a baby one.

If Runaway is an "international" spy tale, then some English would naturally be expected. But what we need to really be PRAYING for is a good script that uses English NATURALLY in it. Although I love Korean dramas, I haven't yet seen a single Korean drama that has used English naturally in it. It would be nice to see one do that.

Maybe Runaway will succeed in this, maybe it won't, but I think it was a GREAT move to cast Henney in it, because being born and raised in the U.S., if something doesn't sound right in English, then he's going to be able to TELL them that it doesn't sound right. And then maybe they can FIX it before it gets aired. And to me that will be a VERY GOOD thing.

Okay, now. Having said all that, since all of the men cast in Runaway are HOT BEYOND MEASURE, I will be watching Runaway anyway, regardless of what language they speak. So there.

'Three Rivers' has returned and it is awful still. I have unfortunately not seen Daniel Henney in any dramas as yet. I think he is gorgeous - not as gorgeous as Oh Ji Ho who I worship. I think all of the acting in 'Three Rivers' is beyond bad. I believe directors have a big role in the tone of acting. Plus it is a stupid show. I hope Daniel Henney at some point has the opportunity for some good direction and coaching.

Bottom line - Rain and Daniel Henney - I'll take it any day - good acting will be a pleasant bonus.

who are we kidding?!? it's a drama that has RAIN and DANIEL HENNEY and LJJ on it-- they could be reciting the phonebook and i'd still watch it!!!

and wow sooo much hate for henney's acting.. he's not so much BAD as he is NEW, and let's at least admit that he's steadily improving. if anyone feels it's unfair that he IS new and only fair in terms of acting, and yet he's getting the big roles probabaly because he's pretty---- ya'll can refer to my 1st sentence in this comment.
tyfyt. :)

I have a niece that loves Henney but I've never liked him as an actor because his voice is irritating to me, his accent & demeanor is like a geeky white guy so it feels all weird watching him. Asian with English accent/influenced has always been a selling point, all cool, friendly smile, demeanor etc, but sadly this does not work for Henney (while it worked for many other handsome ABC, ABK, etc.) He's handsome no doubt, tall, got it all but then yeah, don't have "it".

Now that you girls have your eye candy, how about us men? PD Kwak needs to work hard to add some fine looking actresses with Lee Na Young.

My eyes are going to bloodshot red this fall. Not from reading those stupid textbooks, but from watching all my favorites - Mickey Yoochun, Song Joong Ki, Rain, Lee Jung Jin, Daniel Henney, Jung Woo Sung, Cha Seung Won & Choi Si Won. Did I leave out anyone?

I feel the same way about Lee Min Ho. Gorgeous, gorgeous guy, but talk about one-dimensional acting! Wooden as an oak. Sorry, Lee Min Ho fans...
