After postponement, Lee Dong-gun enlists this week

As a Korean citizen born in 1980, actor Lee Dong-gun should have entered the military for his mandatory service no later than last year, and in fact he had received his papers and planned to enlist last summer. However, due to health reasons, he requested and was granted an extension. On June 15, he’ll report to the Chuncheon army reserve unit for a five weeks of basic training, after which he will complete two years of active duty.
I hadn’t even realized Lee hadn’t entered service yet, since the last I heard was his plans last year to go, but according to his people he has purposely kept this news quiet and hadn’t told anyone until just recently.
After debuting in 1998 as a singer and coming into fame as an actor with roles in Lovers In Paris, Smile Again, and My Boyfriend is Type B, Lee’s last drama was MBC’s When Night Comes with Kim Sun-ah in 2008. He hasn’t acted since then, which is partly due to the unfortunate passing of his younger brother, who was stabbed to death in Sydney in 2008.

i really love him. Though he only have one or two good projects in the past. He may not be one of greatest actor. He still has that charm that makes me like him.
I had read about his brother before.It's so very sad. To think something like that happen to you in a foreign country.
I hope his career will pick up when he comes back. We'll miss you!!!!!!!!

For some reason, I thought he had already did his service really early in his youth. I wish him the best of luck. He's been through so much these past few years. I am sure he will make a splash when he returns in 2 years!

Well, i hope he'll be able to come back a stronger person. I don't think 2008-2009 was a good year for him: expelled, brother's sudden passing, breakup, etc...
Poor man.

So many people are leaving for the military. Even Bi Rain next spring. :( Anyway, all the best to all of them and I can't wait until they return. Also, I am still sad for him about his brother. I remember hearing about it from two years ago... I hope him and his family are doing well now.

Does anyone know if there is any truth to the rumor that he was being treated for depression?!?!
I heard this was the reason he hadn't enlisted. Given all he has had to deal with the last couple of years, I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.
If true, I hope this means he is in a better/stronger state and ready to enter the military.

What a coincidence, he's starting his MS just when his good friend actor Jo Hyun Jae is ending his MS (June 19).
The best of luck, LDG! I hope your stint in the military will be as good as it was for your good friend JHJ. See you after 2 years.

I guess LDG went thru a period of depression after his brother was murdered.
Hence, 2008-2010 had been too quiet & low profile period for him.

I remember him in My BF is Type B. So shocking and sad hearing about his brother.

Loved him in the movie "Changing Partners." Very sexy and out of the norm versus his other roles.
As always, I wish him well. Hopefully he'll come back to acting right after service. He had the charm of a younger man, but I think we will see another side of him should he continue.

Lee Dong Gun is one of my favorite KActors...so sad to hear of his recent circumstances. Maybe he can get over them in the army & come out much stronger ...& eventually get more challenging roles after he gets out!!!

I heard that it wasn't just him who was greatly affected by his brother's death, but more so his parents. LDG must have had it really hard since his brother died. Aside from having to cope with his own grief, he also have to take care of his parents. No wonder not much was seen or heard of him during the past 2 years.
But I am glad that he has recovered enough to be able to start his MS already. I just wonder, who is taking care of his parents now? As far as I know ther's just him and his brother, and with his brother no longer around, then who will take care of his parents during the next 2 years? Anyway, stay strong and healthy, LDG!

I've always enjoyed watching LDG's works. He is completely charming and adorable as in Sweet 18. So sad about the brother ...I didn't know. Good luck to him and hopefully, he'll find a fabulous project upon his return!
