Jang Geun-seok takes the lead in You’re My Pet

Only one news outlet is reporting this, but Jang Geun-seok has reportedly been finalized as the lead in the Korean movie version of You’re My Pet, a remake of Japanese drama Kimi wa petto. The movie had gone through an earlier casting round and selected Kim Hyun-joong as the cute “pet” to a fashion-editor careerwoman, a role that was once rumored to be Su Ae‘s.
According to Star News, Jang has decided on the role and is currently finalizing the details. An A-list actress (yet-unnamed) is the top contender for the female lead, and once the rest of the casting is made official, the movie will begin filming.
This ought to be interesting — back when Kim Hyun-joong was supposedly headlining, I had been turned off because his acting is SO inadequate that it even got in the way of my finding him physically attractive; in Boys Before Flowers, my annoyance with the acting spilled over into annoyance with the character. But Jang Geun-seok is not only pretty, he’s got comic chops as well as dramatic ones. Plus, there’s the fun trivia tidbit of Jang taking over this role from Kim considering that he had initially wanted to play the Ji-hoo role in Boys Before Flowers (which, of course, eventually went to Kim).
(The source article says Jang’s casting is a done deal, but until I see other outlets reporting this news, I’m not fully convinced this is final. For what it’s worth.)

wow!! thank god!! i had seen kimi wa petto ages back n wen i heard khj was playin the lead... in simple words i was pissed!!!. matsujun had done a great job here!! so comparisons would have been brutal towards kim!! but jks can live up to this challenge!!
as much as i LOVE kim... i think this is for the best!! even for kim himself!!! he should start off with simpler roles... learn acting... n den try to outdo jdrama classics!! kim hyung joon... HWAITING!!!

actually, he's a better actor than any young actor in BBF (oh, wait..with the exception of kim so eun.she did her part well) anyway, i hope to see him in another fun-filled series..SOON!

though i really hope i can stomach this version. as much as i love matsumoto jun [played the "pet" in the japanese version] i found it horrible, and never finished watching it

It's gonna be interesting to note that whoever is KHJ's fan is going to be JGS anti-fan. JiHoo is such a challenging role & interesting character (more than GJP in some ways) and KHJ was really brave to take it up (or is it a mishap of the casting team). Whatever the reason, I'm so glad, very glad that KHJ is out of it. Phew...

cant wait for this..love JGS and i think BOF wud have been on totally different level if JGS was in it. not that i have anything against LMH, but i cant stop wondering how JGS wud have done it. but if he had acted in BOF then he surely wud have rejected YAB. i wud have hated that. YAB is my favorite korean series ever (so far), mostly coz of JGS. so, thank god JGS didnt accept BOF.

Wow! Loved Kimi wa Petto, I love Jang Geun-Seok, I can't wait!! I think he'll be perfect for this role, I can totally see it. I was so disappointed when I heard the initial casting, because the character 'Momo' who JGS will be playing is such a great one, I didn't think Kim Hyun-Joong could do it justice. Thanks JB, this news just brightened my day =]

I am SO ON THIS BOAT IF IT FLOATS. JGS FTW! I can totally imagine him in Momo's role; I do hope he gets a strong actress in Sumire's role, because it would be a waste otherwise.
