Lee Na-young takes transgender character to High Kick
by javabeans
Lee Na-young is making the most of her upcoming cameo appearance on MBC’s hit sitcom High Kick Through the Roof, because not only this an unusual television appearance for her, the part also happens to be male. Though the character has nothing to do with her upcoming movie role Dad Likes Women, this is a neat way to promote both appearances, since she sports a similar manly look in the movie, where she plays a post-op (male-to-female) transsexual.
In her first time back on television in six years (her last drama was 2004’s Ireland), Lee will play the older brother to cast regular Hwang Jung-eum. The character is brought on by Jung-eum to fix some bad habits of Jung-joon (Yoon Shi-yoon).
Lee’s cameo will air on January 12; her romantic-comedy family film Dad Likes Women releases on January 14.

...she looks like a very pretty woman with a fake mustache...?
If I saw someone like that, I would think, why is that very pretty woman wearing a fake mustache?

first of all, in high kick, hwang jung eum admitted that she had no older brother to junhyuk (shi yoon)
and second, why can't a guy just play the role? just a means of publicizing??
i agree with samsooki as well.

I was waiting to see what people would write, I agree whole heartedly with Samsookie. I mean, honestly I would believe her playing a male character more if she wasn't sporting facial hair. But maybe....just maybe her character is from America.....and reports weather for a small midwestern TV station..... and the year is also 1976.
The mustache also means this joke can't be used:
"Your sister is hot!" "Dude, that's my brother!"

i like lee na young, but she really doesn't look the least bit convincing as a man. it is as samsooki said, a pretty woman with a fake moustache. sigh.

I'm all for more appearances of trans characters, but this is not the way to go. The styling . . . argh. Without knowing the circumstances, it's hard to know, but the styling looks like an invitation to a series of very unfunny jokes. Here's to hoping it doesn't go that way.

That wig is atrocious. If you are going to commit, then commit.

I agree. This is more of a "woman dressing like man", wig or no wig, mustache or no mustache. I think it also might be the make-up job that isn't helping either. It seems like it was applied still with "feminine" in mind for the actress than trying to help along the idea she is really a he inside. I think it's really the eyes that is what's going against it. Though I think a full goatee beard would have been better than just a mustache, it could've aided in apperences since her jawline really works against her in portraying a man.

Yes to everything, but this is Lee Na Young! In TV! For the first time in forever. Even if she acted as a banggo tonggo, I'd love it.

As long as she does not smile, and gives us a cold glare, it is ok.

Honestly I don't know what is the big deal about the way she looks - she's suppose to play a man who became a woman through surgery, hormone etc - isn't it possible that she can look like a man with woman features or a woman with man features depending on where the person is in the transition....? I think it'll be funny anyways.

@javabeans; lee nayoungs character was jihoon, the doctor uncle's, ex girlfriend, not hwang jungeums older brother. hwang jungeums older brother was an imaginary person in a previous episode. :)

yeah, what gaby (19) said.
lee na-young's character has nothing to do with yoon shi-yoon's character either.
she played a girl who dressed up as a guy to, i think, "check" up on daniel choi's character.
