Kim Nam-gil turns into a Bad Guy

Queen Seon-deok‘s breakout star Kim Nam-gil, aka Bi-dam, has picked his next project: he’ll take the lead role in the drama Bad Guy [나쁜남자], which will be directed by PD Lee Hyung-min of Snow Queen, I’m Sorry, I Love You and Sangdoo, Let’s Go To School. (The drama was also a possible contender for being Lee Min-ho’s comeback, but as we know, he chose Personal Taste instead. I’m pretty satisfied on both ends of this one.)

Bad Guy is a melodrama that tells the story of a modern man’s path to achieving his secret ambitions. The role calls for Kim Nam-gil to be “masculine but also sexy” as a bold man with his eye on becoming a third-generation chaebol; he uses his considerable skills and smarts to take over a chaebol group.

The drama is aiming to air in the first half of 2010; aside from Kim, the production is still casting the other lead male and female roles.

I can't wait. I turned into a Kim Nam Gil fan-girl after his Bidam performance.

"The role calls for Kim Nam-gil to be “masculine but also sexy” "

Not a problem, as far as I can see!

Hmm, just for Kim Nam-gil, I'll be tuning into this one. I haven't even finished Queen Seon Duk and I can see why so many people would fangirl over him. I don't even need to know who else will be in this or what it's about.

Though, I have to admit I think I prefer him in Queen Seon Duk look-wise. That picture of him on his drama-wiki page doesn't work in his favor in my opinion...I hope he looks just as hot as he did as Bidam in this new drama.

@ Reese

I haven't even watched QSD and I can tell why people are fangirling him left and right. He's got that aura and charisma that just shines through, even in stills.

This is awesome news, JB! A lead role, in an interesting project. Best of luck to KMG, I'm definitely going to check him out. I've got a soft spot for second lead baddies who steal the drama, it appears that these type of guys are much tastier than the vanilla lead character when done right.

I thought he was going to the army in March, guess not.

Anywho, I just finished watching his movie 'No Regrets' and I'm currently on a KNG high so you bet I'll be watching this.

Bidam!! <3 Yay for KNG! And a leading role too! I don't usually express my inner fangirl very much but this guy definitely deserves it. Thank you Lee MinHo for not taking this one since I believe KNG is able to pull off the "masculine but sexy" look.

I'm glad it worked out that way. Lee Min-ho sounds more suitable for the other drama and Kim Nam-gil this.

Weeeee! I'm so happy to hear that! Kim Nam-gil also won me over thanks to his awesome Bidam performance <3 He was definitely a breath of fresh air when he entered that show.

I haven't seen any of his modern dramas, but from the pics I've seen I have to say that I rather dislikes the modern hairstyles he's had. His long hairstyle in Queen Seonduk suits him the best! Too bad he probably won't keep it for Bad Guy (gosh I sound so superficial, but there you have it... I still love the actor!)

Definitely keeping an eye on this one :)

btw, a question... What is "chaebol"? I feel like I should know this term already, but I can't recall the translation...

'Masculine but sexy' - he doesn't even need to do anything. He already fulfills the role. Why are there so many hotties in the korean entertainment industry - this is why i always end up watching so many kdramas

JB,

So the story change? From your previous news, http://www.dramabeans.com/2009/11/lee-min-ho-considers-new-drama-role/ ,
i quote "Contrasting with his ridiculously rich and pampered Gu Jun-pyo character in the drama that made him famous, Boys Before Flowers, this drama’s hero grew up poor and becomes an action school stuntman. Bad Guy is aiming to hit broadcast airwaves next spring." This one doesn`t look interesting. Although the new one kinda typical, but it`s more promising, and with KNG it`ll be more interesting...

I'm currently obsessed with him! Finishing QSD soon and still can't get enough of him. I'm glad that his popularity is rising.

POOR BIDAM!!!! :( :( :(

(And, yes, I think I'm going to keep doing this until Kim Nam Gil's show arrives. I'm still seriously haunted by Episode 62. :( :( :( )

Turns out Kim Nam Gil's military date is around fall 2010, so he's going to get his well-deserved shot at Hallyu stardom (thanks to his film No Regret, he's already had a Japanese fanmeeting.)

Having said that, I'm not especially happy that he opted to do a melodrama (well, hey, it's the director of MiSa, Snow Queen, Sang Do, and partially of Winter Sonata.) I've seen KNG in other parts prior to Queen Seon Duk, and he never really stood out because he was always cast as a serious guy. (And KNG tends to have a melancholy aura about him, as such.) I never knew he had a panache for comedy or "you so crazy I wanna have your baby!" sexiness until his star-turn as (Poor) Bidam.

All the same, I'm glad he's finally gotten his shot at being a lead. And if they're crazy(like a fox?) enough to cast Lee Yo Won, I'll go nuts. (I mean, hey, if Don Yi is doing it, why not Bad Guy?)
