BOF introduces newcomer Kim Soo-hyun

Kim Soo-hyun is a pretty new face in the biz, but the 21-year-old actor has already grabbed viewers’ attention with two recent back-to-back performances (in Will It Snow For Christmas and the short special drama Father’s House) that earned him a wave of praise. A few days ago, his official homepage (http://www.bofkorea.com/kimsoohyun) was opened to the public and these new photos released by his management company, BOF. (I’m so used to seeing him broody that it’s wonderful to see him looking happy for once!)

Although his two recent roles only amounted to four episodes of airtime total, Kim Soo-hyun made quite an impression in what could have been forgettable parts. Instead, Kim showed emotive intensity and a strong rapport with the camera that marks him as one to watch.

#5 rainerust,

Sorry dear lady, but if you go back to recap of episode 10 of WISFC, and scroll down the comments page, you'll see that a straggle of crazed Bacchantae (with perhaps, the relatively sober Mr samsooki in their midst too?) have already pitched their flag on him. As for poor little me, under Eros' duress
I confess,
I've dreamt a thousand wicked dreams,
Thought a thousand wicked thoughts,
(ever since I first clapped eyes on him)
And remain,
As immaculate as a lamb.

I agree, I just saw the youtube clips that 34 - lolly shared and I can see some Key and also a little Taemin cuteness - basically if Taemin and Key were brother's - Kim Soo-hyun would be their hyung! :)

@53 Martha

...Hm. Went through that episode's comments as you suggested but didn't see any frantic claiming since he didn't appear in Episode 10. I assume you meant Episode 1? Ah well, I'm always late to the party. Alas.

(By the way, do you mean the Bacchae, or the Bacchantes? ...because there's no the Bacchantae. I double-checked because it just struck me as slightly strange. Sorry, don't mean to quibble over semantics, just wanted to clarify).

#58 rainerust,

I meant his name features in the comments page under the recap of episode 10 (not in the actual episode or in the recap itself). It took a while publicly to confess one's naughty designs on this particular boy; he looks and feels underage and one was, naturally, wary of the long arm of the law. In any case, you're most welcome to a piece of him... un petit morceau delicieux.

@ Martha
Very lovely poem! I think we have all felt like that about an actor sometimes or other. (oh Hyun Bin, how your dimples slay me)
The middle picture of him in second row..... talk about inspirations for wicked thoughts...( I keep telling myself that It's not weird if I am only a year older! XP)
Er are you willing to time share him by any chance? :)

@ rainerust
I think the Romans called the Greek Maenads both Bacchantes and Bacchae. But I am not sure though since I took Greek Mythology several years ago.

#58 rainerust,

Sorry but it just occurred to me I did not address your query over the term Bacchantae. I know that some people use the term Bacchantes, but I consider that to be a corruption of the more proper rendering, Bacchantae, of the Greek word Bakchai. 'The Bacchae', is, as you probably know, a tragedy by Euripides -one of his late ones, I think. Now there are two words in Greek designating the female adorers/followers of Bacchus [aka Dionysus, god of everything that threatens our precarious rational borders, usually depicted as a god of wine, drunken revelry, orgiastic dance, etc. but who in the Euripidean tragedy functions as the return of the repressed, unleashed upon the ultra rational king Pentheas] Bakchai and Bakchidae (or Bakkhai and Bakkhidae). There's a plethora of terms referring to the female adorers of Dionysus and the other more commonly known one is maenads, however that is not the point here. In English, at least in UK English, it is common to use Bacchae to refer specifically to the Euripidean tragedy (Bakchai) and Bacchantae to refer to Bakchidae, the followers of etc., in general. I suppose my objection to and rejection of the term Bacchantes were shaped by my Classics teacher who was vehemently against the corruption of the word Bacchantae (and other similar words) by the introduction of the neologistic -es ending.

P.S. I've also come across a Cambridge University commentary favouring the term Bacchants over all others, so I suppose, one has to accept that such matters cannot be decided once and for all, and after all, very few things (if any) could be more fun than a scholarly dispute, especially over a term shading the border between the vulnerable achievements of reason and what constantly threatens them.

Most willing to share. I would have been terribly disappointed if nobody else found all those mesmerising men, I've listed in a previous post , as irresistible as I do. Also, there's perverse pleasure and fascination to be had in surrendering the object of one's desire to others (Kdramas do mine this area with baroque gusto, perhaps one of the reasons I've come to like them so much)

Oh Hyun Bin, the god of our idolatry!
To paraphrase Goethe, of all the men in the world he has dreamt the dream of life best.
(Go Soo, ditto).

I'm getting out of this thread before dramabeans spam me.

@martha
Thank you for sharing! That quote describes Hyun Bin very well. I haven't read Goethe yet and I think I should remedy that.

P.S Thank you dramabeans for having this site. I learn so many new things here everyday. Thank You :)

After watching u in 'Will It Snow For Christmas (WISFC)', I searched high and low over the internet to get not much info so I'm so glad to see that you are now progressively getting recognised for your talent. U wer amazing Kim Soo Hyun in , in such a small amount of time, you portrayed so much emotion and a story without saying much. Reminds of me of my beloved Go Soo Oppa who can show so much thru his eyes. I pray that you keep going from strength to strength insha Allah (God-willing). Hwaiting /Fighting (Strive for it)! love from Zizi x
