Lee Byung-heon speaks out
by javabeans
After the story broke about an ex-girlfriend of Lee Byung-heon accusing the star of tricking her into a sexual relationship (which Lee’s side refuted as an attempt at blackmail and extortion), Lee has now responded personally. He posted his feelings in a December 13 message on his homepage, and while he didn’t address any of the accusations directly, he called them “distorted truth” and encouraged his fans not to worry, as the truth will come out in the end.
The message reads:
This is Lee Byung-heon.
I don’t know what words to use to greet you.
It’s been a while since I last wrote. I should be writing about good news…
The company and my lawyers held me back, but I am writing because many of you are worried.
The story that has been released to the world has been distorted, and I’m not sure what stories will come out in the future, but the truth will come out in full, through the legal process.
But more importantly, what should have been left as precious, beautiful memories has been twisted and dispersed to the world. My heart is pained that the circumstances between two people who were once so dear to each other has turned into this.
Throughout my career, at times there have been instances when I could not explain a situation, and at times I have believed that keeping quiet about outright lies or stories that have been twisted was the wise choice, and that will largely continue to be how I live my life in the future. I believe that the truth that I have faith in can be felt through the heart, not through words.
Through this latest incident, I have unintentionally caused you all to worry. However, my drama has not yet finished, and it’s my duty to not cause trouble for the people working with me, so I will do my best through the end.
I am trying to not let this affect me.
I hope you will not let this affect you.
Please be strong.
I am here in my place as always, unshaken. Thank you.
Lee’s ex-girlfriend, a Ms. Kwon, had filed a civil lawsuit on December 8 with the Seoul Central District Court, asking for reparation for damages inflicted. On December 10, it was further revealed that she had accused Lee of illegal gambling.
Lee’s management responded by revealing that Lee had been the target of blackmail calls and declared their intent to countersue for defamation of character.
On December 13, Ms. Kwon’s side released photos of her with Lee Byung-heon and at his home to show that she had truly lived with him. (Pictures above and below.) Kwon stated that her reason for releasing the photographs is because of the reproach that has been directed her way after filing her suit, and she wanted to prove that she was telling the truth about her story and how she had lived with him.

I agree with #100 $80K is nothing because LBH is worth so much more. If it were truly about money, she should have asked for more. Legal fees can be extremely expensive and not to mention all the costs that she will need to start her life. I think she is suing LBH primarily not because of money but more for revenge.

Common sense says a 40 yr old actor with a hot career and money whom you have known for a couple of months is not likely to call the wedding hall when you get to
his side of the world, but she got on that plane anyway. She took a RISK and lost.
He gave her $$$ and said seeya. That's what usually happens if you date a playboy. Tough break. Why does he owe her more than an apology and a plane ticket?

@100.. A new line has turned up.
Quote:It’s been confirmed that LBH’s management and lawyer met her in mid-November and tried to send her off with money. She rejected because all she wanted was a face-to-face meeting with LBH. She wanted an explanation from him.
So this has supported my earlier comment as such:
In his open letter to fans he talked about ” what should be retained as good memories. Also, no matter what is the cause, that “two persons who once felt important to each other” etc etc.. the way he talked is like they have been in love for a long time, broke up and he’s painful. "
If he has the true feelings the way he mentioned in his hand written letter he could have met her and solve the problem, sent her away and this whole mess up won't come into public.
Well, now the soup is already boiled. The bunny rabbit is inside the pot. When is the case going to start? Looks like going to be a long legal battle.

LBH is a jerk no matter how you look at it. He may be a great actor as some people say (I wouldn't know, since I haven't seen any of his dramas/movies, I just don't find him interesting enough to check out his projects), but he's still a dirty scumbag jerk.

@106 I guess he is guilty in your book before you know all the facts. Even if the story is true I don't see how he is a jerk. They broke up he gave her money so she could either go home or settle that's a lot more than a lot of guys would have done. When you get into any relationship there are risks even if the intent is marriage, that's not even going into how most marriages end in divorce.

wow... 100 + comments in just 2 days..
we dont really knew them.. i knew LBH since his an actor and i knew ms kwon since she sued LBH and that's it.. im not taking any sides but just wondering what's her primary reason why she left US and moved to KOREA.. is it because she love LBH so much or its because of the promises that LBH told her?..
we cant use age as a basis of maturity..
maybe both of them may be old enough to make their own decision but not wise enough to make a mature decision and take responsibility of their actions.

“It’s been confirmed that LBH’s management and lawyer met her in mid-November and tried to send her off with money. She rejected because all she wanted was a face-to-face meeting with LBH.”
Did you read her letter to the media in details? According to her, Actor A, CEO B and the lawyer came and asked, “What do you want? How much do you want? Say it so that we can give it to you. How big is the house you want? Which area? Who told you to do so?” blahblahblah…
Why did they come to Kwon out of the blue to ask all these things? Does it ring a bell to you that they came for responding to some “demand”? Does the question “Who told you to do so” indicate that they were suspicious that someone was behind the picture?
There is news today that a broadcaster(방송인 ) K who was a close friend of Kwon gathered some triad members and made a fuss at the IRIS filming scenes at late night, twice, because he thought that it was the IRIS filming crew who spread the ‘rumors’ that he was the black hand behind Kwon. http://news.joins.com/article/094/3925094.html?ctg=15
So there is much more in the story. What Kwon said is only one side of the corn. Actually, with the events now unfolding, the blackmail allegation might be true.

I don't understand why you said LBH is proud and egoistic. When he said "unshaken", I think he said it just to encouage his fans, and most importantly, himself.
I found he was weak and badly shaken in between the lines of his letter!

Kwon doesn't deserve money or even an apology. What a complete loser she is. She is so stupid it's hilarious. She gets dumped so she goes public and makes herself look like a naive skank. Smart move. Pathetic. He should sue her for all this crap she's caused him. That would actually be a legitimate case.
