Tang Wei selected as Hyun Bin’s leading lady

Casting has been confirmed and Hyun Bin will in fact be acting alongside Lust, Caution actress Tang Wei in his new movie, the remaking of 1966’s classic Late Autumn (aka Manchu, 만추).

The plot features a three-day love story between a woman who is let out of prison on a special leave and a young man who is on the run from pursuers. The original, now lost, is considered one of the best of its lauded director Lee Man-hee‘s prolific but short-lived career. It had been remade twice before (in 1975 as Promise of the Flesh and 1981 as Late Autumn) and even once in Japan as 1972’s Promise. (In fact, Promise of the Flesh was directed by the famous Kim Ki-young, who had previously made The Housemaid, which is regarded as one of Korea’s best films and is the source material for Jeon Do-yeon‘s upcoming remake.)

Late Autumn/Manchu will be shot in the U.S. by Korean director Kim Tae-young, but both stars will be acting in English. CEO Lee Joo-ik of production company Boram Films said, “We’ve thought carefully about what we can do to make our film connect with the rest of the world, and it seems like just yesterday that we’d gone to the U.S. to location scout five years ago, but now that we’re really going to the States to begin filming, the feeling is remarkable.”

The film will begin shooting at the end of the month and release in 2010.

Tang Wei is an excellent actress, too bad she got ban because of LC. I`m more excited to see her that Hyun Bin. I like one particular scene in LC where she sang a chinese opera to Tony Leung...

@26 Pink Fox
Hehehe...i think at that era, they don`t shave the armpit. I guess it`s more realistic that way...hehehe lol

Tang Wei! I'm excited finally to see her in action again! :D Although I know she filmed another film recently ... but I can't find information on it, which makes me sad because she's really talented and gorgeous to boot.

@Alyssia,

Agree with the other posters. The sex in LC is important, because it not only shows the developing relationship between the two, but it's also a metaphor for the rap/aggression of one country over another. Which is what it is, the sex is aggression -- and in fact, he is trying to break her will and her psyche through sex. It's rape. And initially she's overwhelmed by his cruelty, his insatiable need to humiliate her and destroy her from within, but she manages to protect something of herself as they fornicate. After all, if he invades her body yet he cannot find her soul, then he cannot have complete victory over her. Progressively, the student becomes the master, and eventually she is his equal. And then . . . And all this is metaphor for the occupation itself; her war and The War are one.

Having said that, my favorite scene in the whole movie was when she and her students acted out a propaganda play. When she declares to the audience that China will never fall to a foreign power, I felt deep pride and tears swell within me.

Ah, Hyun Bin. Seems like an intense movie. Indeed, he is maturing nicely. Guess Song Hye Gyo will visit him in Seattle?

LC is a very nice movie. I recognized TW from that movie & i found her great, so in this movie i can say she will do great..

sex scenes in LC were necessary i think, and i didn't think it as over R rated. It might be for those who are not used to those kind of scenes, but for those who thought it as art would find it necessary w/o boundaries.

Armpit of TW there, though it was little bit turn off, made the film more realistic. shaved-armpit was not in at that era i think. :D
