Kim Bum gets flashy for Bisang
by javabeans
(I’m not sure whether I think Kim Bum‘s cornrows make him look badass or adorably benign in that trying-too-hard sort of way. Actually, I think I do know.)
In any case, the young actor has a new film coming out, Bisang [비상, or Flight], which he filmed before his recent drama Dream. Earlier this summer, the film had released a set of stills featuring Kim performing stunt work and sharing a kiss with co-star Kim Byul (Baby and I). In these latest images, we see a bit more of the nightclub host he plays.
The film’s stylist explained, “Kim Bum’s character isn’t merely a host but also an aspiring actor, so he considers his host lifestyle as acting. Therefore he used not only his clothing and hairstyle but also flashy broaches, earrings, necklaces and the like to build the character.”
Bisang will release on December 3.

He just doesn't do it for me. Never did in BOF either. I couldn't get into Dream.
But different strokes...

I wonder if he's going to end up being a Jang GeunSuk type with me. As in I think they're talented, and oh-so pretty, but rarely do something that I'd actually want to watch : \

Eh........
It doesn't suit him. To be honest, he has a small face, but the hair looks a bit "big" on him.

Night club host? Like Beastie Boys/Moonlight in Seoul with Ha Jung Woo and Yoon Kye Sang?
I WANT... such a cute host...This noona will visit whichever club that he works at. This is such an inappropriate comment... ^o^
Seriously Kim Bum need to pick a good project that sets him apart...in BOF, he is way too "soft" - the way he speaks, the way he carry himself with that "though-I-am-young-but-I-am-a-gentleman"... and had that slightly pent-up emo kid's rage due to family issue... which story could be build up better but didnt...shall not go into BOF related rant... Didn't see Dream so can't comment... I thought, he probably will do well in a rom-com or something... like a clueless boyfriend sorta role... that will be cute... Or a big brother kinda role taking care of a brood of kids in some family drama... now that will be sweet wouldn't it?

He's a little awkward; he needs to build his confidence and be a little less conscious, so he can be more convincing. Or maybe pick roles that suit him then gradually take on other challenging roles when he's really really ready.

give Kim Bum a break... he's a relatively young actor that needs to grow into his roles...
in all fairness, he is kinda one of the better actors of his generation.

Yup, Kim Bum Iverson was rocking cornrows in the last episode of Dream. At the very end of Dream, he went back to the Yi Jung Luxury Cut. And the world breathed a big sigh.
"Didn’t see Dream so can’t comment."
If you can accept that he obviously doesn't have the build to be a MMA fighter, he delivered a good, moving performance. He and JJM had solid bromantic chemistry.

@13 belleza
At the risk of it seeming like I'm following you from thread to thread just to agree with everything you say...I agree completely.
An opportunistic, unsentimental man and a damaged, needy boy both became better people because of what each of them brought to the other's life. I think that had they not been fated to meet, both of their lives would have gone in a much more tragic direction. That's what kept me watching Dream every week; the silly sports stuff was just the means to an end. Was it a great drama? No, but KB and JJM were both really good in it, and they elevated it to something bigger than the sum of its parts.
And yes, KB rocks the cornrows in my opinion! :-D

@langdon813,
"I think that had they not been fated to meet, both of their lives would have gone in a much more tragic direction."
That's how I watched it too. Also the show found a lot of specific "guy being guys" humor that's kinda absent in most K-dramas. I couldn't make up my mind about the father, because the idea of a father letting his child go to jail for him is, well, sick.
I felt Dream was a quiet gem, and overall I liked the ending. Bittersweet and honest (esp. about the mom), and I still couldn't help but feel Kim Bum's character still has much to overcome beyond the end of the show.
I also liked how the show didn't go too far with the romantic triangle, since there really wasn't enough chemistry there.
Having said all that, it does worry me that Kim Bum's acting idol is Jo In Sung. Because when he said that, I kept on comparing his screaming tirades to, well JIS's performance in Bali. And I already had "OMG not since Jo In Sung!" chills from KB's brief appearance in East of Eden.
You just can't do all your performances this way. And after a certain age, it gets rather . . . whiny. The yelling works here (as it did in East of Eden and BBF), but I just hope he develops something to counter the yelling.

I agree with #12!
Kim Bum has a lot of talent for such a young actor, I've seen him struggle with bad lines or awkward choreography, but he rarely ever overacts (which a problem a bazillion other young K-drama actors and actresses have). Every actor/actress has dud dramas/movies, we can let Dream go!
I'm really proud of Kim Bum and I honestly expect great things from him in the future! He's the complete package! Easy on the eyes and a consistently improving actor...he's awesome!
I love that last pic! HAWT.

Kim Bum is a child. He has childish mannerism. Everything about him cries "child". So when he is given boxer, playboy...roles it doesn't fit him.
