Honestly, Pride got me goo goo over Kimura. I think I might do a re-watch even though I just watched it.

Also, it had kissing! And a bed scene! In a J-drama?? WHAT ALTERNATE UNIVERSE HAVE I STEPPED IN???

@Samsooki,

Shamwow really is a piece of crap. However, the Shamwoohoo, that's a $5 value for just $19.99!

@Gallivanter,

"I went to see M83 last year and it was BY FAR the worst concert I’ve ever been to. "

Not even during Coleurs. I love that song!!

"Anyone going to Bumbershoot this weekend in Seattle? I’m planning on going on Monday and I always have this excitement/terror of going to giant music festivals"

It should be awesome to see Modest Mouse at Bumbershoot.

@ Samsooki : chopping the veg is the only thing I really like about cooking! I can work off a lot of frustration from my day prepping for a curry or making a big salad (hand ripping lettuce is also v good for relief of frustration).

But I do like the idea of chipping in to buy one for Javabeans esp if there's a bonus prize free gratis additional giveaway item of equal or better cheesiness.

I've started watching What's Up Fox on Dramafever (b/c I was watching Triple on Viikii and then the links weren't working). It's very cute and I'm enjoying it. I'm on Ep 9 (having started on Sunday....) Has anyone else seen it? I'd never heard of it before.

No no no, if anything I should be the one buying you guys gifts! I don't run this site for the money (now, there's a losing proposition if ever there were one!), but ever since I took down the "donate" button I've been making decent income from ads to cover my costs and such, so I can't take money from readers! :)

I wasn't going to do anything for the big #100, but maybe I'll toss in a giveaway of some sort.... hm....

(Oh, and I love those cheesy infomercials. They always suck me in, even when I know the product is ridiculous. An egg-wave, really?? Super-duper paint-stripping, rust-killing cleaner that is somehow safe to use to wash cups we drink out of? A fifty-piece knife set when I basically use one knife, plus a FREE! GIFT! of a second fifty-piece knife set if I call in thirty seconds?)

@ javabeans

i totally bought into the free 2nd set of knives when i bought the miracle blades, and then had to pay a SEPARATE shipping fee even tho the knives all came together ??? AND i bought the knife block for BOTH sets, which had its OWN 2 additional shipping fees. the infomercial ppl SAW me coming thru the PHONE!

@ lovenyc52

u should buy a ticket and fly up here for the weekend and work the food tent for the free food. :)
oh, and the second reason i work the food tent? i get to take a 5 mins break and shop at the other stalls and buy PASSION FRUIT!!! i LOVE passion fruit!!!

@56 reluctantbutaddicted

I watched What's Up Fox a few months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it!

LOL at all the infomercial comments...I was never tempted by knives or choppers or food sealers or anything to do with cooking or food, oh no! For me it's always the exercise dvd's that promise to make me look 6 sizes smaller IN ONLY SIX WEEKS!

Oh yes, I'm talking P90X, 10 Minute Trainer, Slim in 6...and my personal favorite, Hip Hop Abs! And if Chuck Norris is pushing it, then I'm going to watch it, otherwise he'll hunt me down and kill me in my sleep, I just know it.

Oh, a Pride love-fest - count me in! Pride was one of the first Jdramas I watched - I have no idea how I stumbled upon that one - and I have loved it ever since. Not just for the KT factor (kisses, that extreme rarity: a bed scene, general hotness) but also some fantastic ensemble acting and a great, witty script. I think it is the same writer who did Love Shuffle, who is known for really fast dialogue with lots of puns and other wordplay. I bought the DVD through yesasia but the subs are horrendous - I think I ended up with some Chinese pirated ripoff through just not knowing any better. Sigh.

@Samsooki and @belleza : I watched those "infomercials" on youtube and laughed out loud, alone, middle of the day, when I should be working, like a crazy person. Happy crazy person, that is.

@langdon813 : Thanks, it hadn't occurred to me to be scared of Chuck Norris if I didn't buy what he was selling, but now I am. Thank goodness I just cancelled my cable so I'm not tempted by this stuff. These days I'm basically only watching k-drama and dvds. So, I figured, save that $65 (CDN) per month and I can spend it on dvd rentals and purchases. I did buy rabbit ears, so I could get a few basic channels, but I can't figure out how to hook them up to my new and very pretty flatscreen super high-tech plug-your-computer-right-in TV. Sigh.

Re: What's Up Fox

It was enjoyable for the first half but it quickly deteriorated for me. I still haven't watched the last episode.

Re: Pride

I didn't realize it was the same writer for Love Shuffle. Explains a lot. If I could get Kimura to look at me with that tilted head, smoky gaze and whisper, "Maybe". . . .I think I'd be a happy woman. Also, I didn't realize how hot kissing people's eyes could be. . .but it's hot.

@ Janie

Yes. Park Ye Jin. It's been a long week!
September's the busiest month at work for me, and it's only the first week. Aigoo!

@ langdon813

ROI marathon! That sounds so tempting...but I've so many first-run viewings of dramas to go through. It'll have to wait. :(

@ Samsooki

The thing about buying infomercial products is...you end up on millions of telemarketing lists afterwards. No thanks. Plus, if you wait a while, the products often end up in stores eventually. I saw the ShamWow recently at Costco - a whole set for dirt cheap.

AHHHH....college football season is here.
Pac-10, what a disappointing start!

@60 langdon813

I'm also tempted by the exercise dvds. I actually bought hiphop abs but didn't have enough resolve to follow through it-especially when Shaun T is so cheesy. When 10-minute trainer came up, I was tempted to get it too but realized that it will probably just end up sitting my my shelf catching dust right next to hiphop abs.

I heard P90X actually works to make you all ripped and stuff!

So, wait....

I am getting mixed signals. Does JB want a Slap Chop? Does she not want a Slap Chop?

This Christmas, I am very likely going to ask for a Slap Chop. Here's what you get:

•1 Slap Chop™
•Graty (Cheese Grater)

FREE Bonus
(Just pay separate S&H)
•2nd Slap Chop™
•2nd Graty (Cheese Grater)

That's freaking awesome. I will use one. Then, just when people think I have to stop chopping because my Slap Chop is being washed in the dishwasher, I will triumphantly pull out my SECOND Slap Chop and then continue to chop vegatables. There will be no stopping me then... no stopping me...

$19.95 + $8 s/h + $8 s/h = a ton of savings of time, energy and a verve for living.

(somehow, in the course of a half-day, I started with the thought that there is no way that I could be convinced to order from the same guy who sold my brother-in-law a crappy shamwow to give to me, and now, I am now seriously considering asking for another info-mercial piece of crap - how did this happen?).

@11 djes

Where in a world(literary) do you live? !5m of earthquake??? That must be horrendous... I trust everything OK with you and people in the affected area?

@37 Samsooki

You are too funny! Thought we Asian girls(may be not boys, though, come to think of it) in general(there may, of course, be some exceptions) can do good job chopping up things...

I'm currently watching Swallowed by the sun and trying to get into My fair lady(only at Ep.3. Looks like it'll improve by Ep.6, according to Ms. Javabeans, so didn't want miss out on that.

Have a happy holiday weekend, everyone! (I, myself, is working... go figure)

Plus bunch of Jdramas, good for when I just want to relax... Ortros no inu(the main guy is sooo cute), Otomen and surprisingly, Karei naru spy(has surprising touching moments, here and there), otherwise, it's just so silly and funny.

B & W, Is it that good? worth watching ?

@19 Jae - some of the older Xman is on aja-aja's site, but you have to download. Some don't have subs. But, I do have a site for 1N2D: sharing is caring - Enjoy!!!

Anyone know where I can watch old episodes of Miraculous Victory & Defeat?

HA!!! I'll take two!

@67 celestialorigin

B & W is excellent! And extremely addictive...once you start you want to keep going. It was really hard to wait for new eps each week! I have every intention of getting the DVD's and watching the followup movie.

@68 lb_tmi

I know, right?? I can eat doughnuts AND still get fabulous abs! Win win!

Hey JB,

Any reason you're not following Swallow the Sun? It's doing very well in the ratings but gets almost zero pub here. Just not your cup of tea I guess?

@lb_tmi and @langdon813 - contour ab machine..is that the one where u wear this giant belt thing with silicone pads on the inside and it like... vibrates your fat away to reveal amazing abs? i see that on hsn all the time and im like, wth!? where does it GO!? what's better are those magic pills that say you can lose 40 pounds in 3 months and never go hungry. i'm so sure. but dare to dream? i would love to live off ice cream and cupcakes and have abs of steel.

btw - this is regarding a topic a few threads back. i totally made hamburger helper this week and enjoyed it immensely while watching wild bunny. i bought 3 boxes and i think the sodium in one box is more than i should be allowed in a month.

lemme amend my previous statement. i would love to live off of ice cream, cupcakes and hamburger helper and have abs of steel. make me a pill for THAT.

@Ivuson,
I tried to watch Swallow the Sun. After the first episode, I was left scratching my head and wondering, "What the hell...?" It seemed to have such a disjointed story and it just didn't grab me. I'm assuming it got better since it's doing well, but the first episode gave me such a headache.

One more Pride fan here -- no one has mentioned the Queen soundtrack and the friendships. I loved how Aki was always talking to her neighbor (the guy pretending to be rich) in the laundry room; girl/guy friendships are another thing that don't show up in a lot of J dramas.

Laughing is another missing item in Jdramas. The main female character in Love Revolution is the only woman I can remember just laughing (sometimes at herself and sometimes at situations).

Does anyone here have 1st or 2nd hand knowledge of Korean hospitals? I notice in several dramas that the patient needs a guardian. And in Coffee Prince the mom was always bringing food for the grandma. Is the guardian supposed to feed the patient, or was she just being nice? Also, there always seems to be a humidifier steaming away near the head of the bed. Are these just drama things, or real?
