Lee Min-jung takes a second walk down the aisle

Lee Min-jung first walked down the aisle for her role in Boys Before Flowers, and now takes a second turn as a bride in her upcoming drama, Smile [그대웃어요].

The SBS drama is Lee’s first leading role, and features her in a riches-to-rags role; her sassy, rash character is dumped by fiance Lee Kyu-han (pictured above) after her rich family meets with ruin. It’s only after her wedding ceremony with the son of an auto company president that everyone learns of her father’s company collapsing, and the fiance’s parents urge him to break it off (I suppose that means before they file the official registration paperwork). (After being jilted twice, Lee may have to hope that the third time’s the charm in her next drama.)

Smile follows current SBS weekend series Style (which has recently experienced an unexpected drop in ratings), and premieres on September 26.

I am so completely sick and tired of storyline's like that. Can't we please have a rich woman (whose family still retain their rich status for the whole drama) marry/be engaged to a rich guy (whose family still retain their rich status for the whole drama) or is that too bloody much to ask? Are there even any dramas like that...that don't suck cause I would totally love to watch it...

That guy looks very much like the serial killer in 'Soul'. If it is him then I'm sure the role will suit him perfectly!

Then you might want to watch The Man Who Can't Marry. The woman is a doctor and the man is an award winning architect. Both their families are well off and never face ruin. The drama doesn't suck either, in fact, it's one of the best in recent times....

....but that might be the reason why it didn't do well. There are no struggles, no underdog to cheer for, and no evil villain to hate. It pretty much goes against the grain of k-drama conventions and didn't really attract much of an audience.

I think we'll be stuck with rags-to-riches and riches-to-rags stories for a while longer.

@#3: Nah. I couldn't get into that one. Thanks though! I'm sure I'll find one at some point...even if it isn't Korean.

Lee Kyu-han playing a douchebag again. He's really got the right face for it!

like Reese, i do wish there would be a drama about two rich people falling in love. Rich people have feelings too and have their own love-tribulations too!

to REESE =
I think Princess Lulu has that storyline.. both the main lead are rich.. but I personally thought the movie was duh - ah- ok - but - no category. (personal preference)

I am not really looking forward to this drama because of Lee Min Jung, because I am shallow and prejudiced, ever since I saw how spunky she is in BBF with Lee Min Ho ) and I so wanted to hate her character but can't (damn those writers and PD!!!!) and I wanted Jun Pyo to be only lovey dovey and sizzle with oozing chemistry with Jan DI.

So now by principle, it will take a while (probabaly 2-3 episodes of this new drama of her, and a convincing post/review of the drama) before I change my mind and actually make time to out this on my list.

*** I was like this about 3 years ago with Lee Da Hae in MY GIRL, because her Ju Yu Rin character so resembles Han JI Eun ( Song Hye Gyo in FULL House) in appearance and hair style, that i refused to watch the drama. But then I eventually watched it, and now MY GIRL is my 2nd most favorite drama of all time.

The fiance, Lee Kyu-han, is Samsoon's ex-BF, who dumped KSS on Christmas Eve.

As for the cliche of rich-guy/poor-girl or poor-guy/rich-girl, I guess that is one source of conflict, esp. in a culture where comparable financial standing is a criteria for evaluating a potential life partner.

Dramas need conflicts, I just hope the screenwriters come up with new twists instead of banking on overused ones.

@reese,

actually there are some kdramas like that, and which i think are pretty good dramas just that they're not popular. maybe u just watch hit dramas, thats why u never find one.

i might see the first episode to see how cliched it is (or hopefully isnt)
