You posed exaclty what I wanted to ask. How well are her body of work for her to just flirt with one artistic work and then jump onto another. She's not quite the actress yet, and her body of works so far aren't anything of highest calibre. She's appearing very much like a jack of all trade but no scholar of any individual.

I feel for this gal, I get super bored with hobbies and jump to the next one after I've had my fill.

Only thing is, she's famous and gets money for it. lol

The next time, are we going to hear that she is tapping into animation, participating in flash dance, or involving in a play all in this year as well?

What others have achieved in a 15-20 years of career, she appears to have tried them all in one year. It is not bad to be a grasshopper for a year or two, and finally find her niche....

JB, that's a good point about GHS. I never really bought her as a novelist and an artist, in fact I think those two projects were a bit pretentious on her part, like she's trying to portray herself as a higher up artist instead of just a celebrity.

However, I've seen on quite some occasions that singing is actually something she's good at. The problem is now will she be regarded as a serious actor with her turn in singing? A singer turned actor, the good one of course, will usually be taken more seriously, but an actor turned singer? Especially in the current Kpop music climate. Especially coming from a YG Company. Oh well, I just hope her album will be good.

In the end she is still known as Actress Gu Hye Sun, and it would be nice to see her take one profession and expertise in it. But I still and will always admire her for being able to at least attempt in different areas.

She isn't a bad singer, although her recent performance wasn't one of her bests. But than I suppose since she was suppose to be in 2NE1 with Bom and Dara originally, I'm sure she has some talent in singing ^^

I don't know why celebrities do this. These days, if they're actors, they try to be music artists, or they release a clothing line or perfume line, or they write a book, or whatever. I think it's tasteless really. They are just using their fame to get ahead in other areas, because if they weren't celebrities, no one would give their other projects a second thought.

There are so many struggling artists and novelists out there, that these celebrities just come off as... ech.

GHS isn't a bad singer or anything, so it's not surprising that she's taken this step. But the whole, "I'm a great abstract artist and I can direct stuff" move was pretty lame.

I don't see her as a professional artist or writer, but I don't think it's a bad thing for her to try different outlooks for artistic expression. I feel that she just has many different interests, and unlike the common people, she has the opportunity to try them all and publish them all.

Luck open her to a lot of different opportunities. She may not expertise in all she does but at least she is doing whatever she wants and I'm sure her fans will consider her "admirable".

For me, I can't help but feel bitter on some parts. Her artworks and her novel...something that I find decent are gaining so much attention. Oh well, let me perhaps be famous first and then I can venture into all those areas others work so damn hard to gain recognition for but cant.

To be honest I have nothing against her. It's just seeing her putting so much effort on one thing and be recognized for it while others put so much less (sarcasms implied) through their decades of life to accomplish but can't tick me off a little.

i don't know what to say. In a previous post here, I commented that it is noteworthy that she wants to achieve a lot at such a young age but...I don't think she should lose focus either.

Oh well, if she sings really well and has the potential to be a good songwriter, then so be it.

While I think it's admirable of her to gain experience in different areas and be exposed to different media, I've been getting the feeling that her pursuits may have to do more with attention rather than sheer talent and interest. I wonder if she's doing all these things so that she'll gain more fame as an actress, have a greater variety of roles available to her, or at the very least be known as "the actress who's done everything." I'm not trying to be cynical, but that's just an...underlying idea that came to mind. But if she's good at her pursuits, that's another matter. I haven't really paid attention to any of them so no comment on that.

At this point, she just seems manic.

I wonder if GHS knows that all this attention she is garnering for all her extracurricular is hurting her or not? I know that everyone loves to put mutliple occupations in their profolio ie. model, actress, director, designer, etc. but can they not stick to one thing they are good at and do it properly?! This not only applies to GHS but it also applies to all other actors and actresses!

Han Ji Hye...actress, model, shoe designer
YEH...singer, actress, model, CEO, designer
Rain...singer, actor, model, CEO, designer

Everyone is an actor and model! I am not hating on any of them because I do like them but they all seem to have a lot of side jobs. lols.

It's interesting that the two 'stars' of BOF have taken a break from acting are they hoping to create some distance between their characters in the drama and the real them?

Don't really like GHS at all, terrible actress but good on her that she's trying to pursue her interests, she might be mediocre in some aspects but if she can draw and write then is producing something with that really bad? She might not be a wordsworth or Picasso but if someone is interested in her other work then its not bad is it? look at Lee Minho, atleast she's not doing CFs for every mobile phone and clothing line, but dissing LMH is low but having a go at her is fine....

She is doing A LOT these days. But I wonder if this was all just bad timing for her. I feel like she would have done these things, and has wanted to do these things even before she became really popular. But now that her name is so well known, it is hard for her to do anything without people making a big deal about it. We know that she originally wanted to become a singer, she drew since she was younger, and she studied to become a director. So it doesn't seem like she just did these things out of no where. It just so happens that she's doing one thing after another right after her most popular drama, and that does lead some people to think that she's just doing these things for popularity. Maybe she just wanted to get all that out of her system before she focused on one thing??

i heard from a friend (so dunno if it's true) that gu hyesun's original dream was to be a singer, but she was encouraged (/forced?) to go into acting instead. i honestly don't care for her much, though she seems like a good person, albeit a bit boring.

To me she is an oppurtunist and attention seeker but in the right way. While u are still famous why don't try everything, fans will be supportive no matter what. 2-3 yrs later I might be nobody so better do it now.

Where's all the Kim Myung Min's, Jang Dong Gun, Lee Young Ae (even though Dae Jang Geum was made into a 101 things, she concentrated on acting while promoting what she was obliged to when her face was stuck on a huge airplane nonetheless) at that time by doing Sympathy for lady vangence & basically disappearing after promoting all the LG fridges she could.

I don't really care much for her book or art but since she was first a singer than an actress, I say good for her on making an album. Thouhg it would have made sense to do that first than all of her other work which seems to come from no where.

It’s actually admirable that she had done a lot of things while she’s still young. She may not be a skilled writer, actress, director or artist - but she inspires a lot of people to realize their dreams.

I don't think that she's up for the fame or money. There’s just so much that she’s interested to do and fortunately had a chance to share it to a bigger audience. For people to acknowledge her work is just a bonus. :)

Besides, she’s an artist so she owes to share her talent to the fans..

@ 20 dunlop, I agree with you. All the things that she wanted to do, it's not like she just decided overnight that she wanted to do it. It's been in the work for some time, unfortunately right after BOF, the timing just isn't right and thus two extreme fans and antis. I do admire her guts and even GHS admits she can't stay still she wants to try and do everything that peaks her interest. She may be ADHD and this is her cure.

I think it's a normal response (from "neutral" people, not her fans) to someone who venture from one thing to another thing in a bleep of time (a year in this case). It make an impression that she's not really serious with what she's doing in one area (like a real novelist, artist etc. who hone their talent for years). Just like what JB said, "the moment it’s done, she’s off to the next thing. If she spent more time with each interest, she might seem less of a dilettante and gain more credibility".
Truthfully, the first time I heard that she doing another projects beside acting, I supported her (although I'm not her fans) since I believe that everyone should be given a change to show their talent. But to show them all (more than five I guess) in such a short time make me questioning her motive. Are she really that talented or she's doing that just for popularity sake ? (FYI, I'm not really impress by her acting either)

I have nothing against Gu Hye-Sun's trying out different things if she has the opportunities to do so. However, it does sound unfair that her amateurish works enjoy popularity and attention (partly?) thanks to the fact that she's famous. I'm not sure of the merits of her work to judge here, but being a famous actress definitely doesn't hurt. Honestly I don't think she's that great an actress yet...at least not in Boys before flowers...

i just feel the only thing GHS should be pround of is that she has the unbelievable luck to show off her so called talents even though none of them are brillant at all.

sorry to say i agree with JB & many of the rest of us here.. i don't find GHS's acting, writing or drawing to be remarkable in any aspect... she became a celebrity as an internet ulzzang after all.. i'm not expecting much from her upcoming album..

34, we are not haters, if look carefully (minus mine), most of the comments come from well informed people who know about what high standard are and not what they are talking about. If u look at comments at Allkop most people can tell what age group of people who complement her. For you she is very talented ,maybe u don't put bar too high for her.

Sorry but I don't really care about those F2 as much as I adore the story. Mainly because of the acting that I didn't even bother to finish it. Just because of a two handsome guys that people end up bashing her, who are you kidding? That seems too childish to even be thought of or at least the person who thought of such an excuse is childish after all.

Luck is very important in the entertainment circle and you didn't even deny that. I don't see what's the problem with what others are saying. They are basically saying that she has little or no talent and you agreed in some part that she doesn't. She just needs to be focus on one thing and be good first before showing it off. She is a public figure, it's expected that people have an opinion of her especially when she showed off a lot of her "talents". So what is there for you to be offensive about?

I am so sick of seeing her. I'll be honest, it is because she annoyed me so badly in BOF that by the end I really didn't care if she and GJP got together or not, and only watched to see how it would all end up. It shouldn't be reflected on her as a person but she annoyed me so badly in BOF and I've always thought that even if you're acting, your personality will still reflect in little ways through it. Whenever she does all her little activities it really is a mantra into riding the wave of her fame from a drama that was overhyped tbh. I am thoroughly irked when it comes to seeing all the things she has done that haven't been impressive? It's a look into how celebrities get to do things that others work hard to do and get more fame for it. W/e people that hate what I had to say my bad.

it comes with the territory of being an artist or an entertainer that the work you put out there is going to be judged by people..everyone has different tastes and opinions..with certain celebrities a lot of the time the criticism is going to be legitimate..

if there is little to no artistic merit in a performance or work of art..people are going to notice and say something about it..the thing about real novelists, artists, musicians is their work usually has recognizable value..

it doesn't make someone a hater or basher to have a critical opinion..that said GHS has at least some amount of skill to be able to try her hand at all of these disciplines..and she is setting a good example by encouraging others to pursue the arts..

I believe GHS has every right to pursue any interest she likes. Her doing some artwork and directing a film happened long before she became Gum Jan Di. However, her role in BBF opened the door much wider for these projects of hers,She was INVITED to participate in these film festivals and the art exhibits. How can anybody in their right mind turn down these once in a lifetime opportunities. Heard she put up her own money or took a loan to make this short film. That is passion.

Sorry, I'm in the minoriy here but since I'm a fan, I know a little bit about Hyesun's history. She has been drawing and singing/playing the piano/composing since she was a young child. Her family was not wealthy so she got her instruction and was encouraged by teachers along the way. Music and art has been a part of her life since childhood, it's not something she picked up on a whim. She planned to debut as a singer but YG Family decided to point her in the direction of acting instead and one of the reasons why this happened is because she suffered from terrible stage fright and took acting lessons to help overcome it. They found that she had some talent in this area. All of this took years to come about and she worked hard to be where she is. If you don't like what she does, don't watch her works or listen to her music. One final point: Pure 19 was the #2 most popular drama of 2007(Jumong was #1) and BOF was a phenomenol success this year. No matter what is said, she was the main actress in both, and a lot of people do like her work. We're all entitled to our opinions, this is just mine.

But she is gaining recognition since all her works have been critiqued FAIRLY and with good enough critique to boast of..I believe she is grounded, and she knows that she is not displaying her works just for the sake of showing it off..She has way too many talents to keep it all bottled up.
