Bae Soo-bin is Aeja’s hapless boyfriend
by javabeans
Bae Soo-bin just wrapped his previous role as the much-loved Jun-sae character in Brilliant Legacy, but he takes a completely different turn with his latest role as Choi Kang-hee‘s man in the movie Aeja [애자], where Choi plays the title character.
While his Brilliant Legacy image was gentle and supportive, the “Chul-min” character he plays in Aeja is rather pathetic. His good job as a home-shopping channel producer and his good looks make him well-liked among other ladies, but once he’s in front of his overbearing girlfriend Aeja, he’s reduced to a hapless, klutzy guy who is devoted to her. In a word, he’s whipped. Bae Soo-bin is reportedly drawing notice for his laugh-inducing performance as the sad-sack boyfriend.
Aeja, meanwhile, is a 29-year-old woman who was called “the Tolstoy of Busan” in high school and dreams of being a novelist, but has found herself stuck in Seoul working for a small local paper. She’s got a heap of debts and her talk of writing a novel becomes an excuse to wander from job to job. In exasperation, her mother tries to marry off her immature daughter.
Aeja looks like a quirky comedy and plans to release later this year.

Re : Suzie,
i think he looks more like a mash of Leslie Cheung and Kaneshiro Takshi!
And, for wanting soulful eyes like Tony Leung... he has gone up considerably in my estimation. I *might* now consider watching Shining Inheritance. I couldn't get past Episode 1 and i just got annoyed whenever i saw the male lead. He always looked half asleep!

@23 diana,
Yes, you're right. Choi Kang-hee is the actress from Thank You. I watched My Sweet Seoul in its entirety before I realized she was the doctor in Thank You.LOL!

I enjoyed watching Brilliant Legacy a whole lot. One of the better dramas this year so far. I just wish BSB had more screen time in BL.
@15 YGfangirl - I'm with you, girl. One of those who likes BSB/JS a lot more than the male lead.

I love Choi Kang-hee's personal style and the few secs she was on in "Thank You", I thought she was great. She has a quality similar to Bae Do Na and Lee Na Young-kind of quirky and offbeat. Not the typical kdrama female star.
I like Bae Soo Bin in most of his supporting roles. I did manage to get through Briliant legacy and while it was fun, its ridden with cliches and I feel like I lost a few brain cells on the way to the finish line. It was the same feeling I had reading "Da Vinci Code". Fun while reading it but after felt dumber for having read it.

I've seen the movie and it was both funny and emotional, who doens't get teary at that mother-daughter relationship? BSB had a supporting but memorable role and he was hilarious!
A natural and versatile actor, and above all, he's daring with his role choices which I always appreciate.
Like in some comments here, I also initially thought that he looked like a mix of Takeshi Kaneshiro, Leslie Cheung and Tony Leung. From the HK movie scene I particularly love the late Leslie Cheung and Tony Leung. Funny thing, BSB once said in an interview that he especially admires Tony and Leslie and would like to act with them if he had the chance.
