Prime-time battle of the ex-FinKL stars
by javabeans
Sung Yuri, Lee Jin
Former ’90s pop group FinKL kick-started a couple acting careers, namely with Sung Yuri and Lee Jin, who are set to star in competing dramas this summer. (Fellow FinKL member Ok Joo-hyun has had a successful career as a musical actress, while Lee Hyori — well, no explanation needed for her.)
Sung Yuri’s drama Swallow the Sun airs first, premiering on July 8 and taking up residence in SBS’s Wednesday-Thursday broadcast slot. Lee Jin will join in the ratings battle a month later with her horror series Hon [혼], which means Spirit or Soul; it also stars Lee Seo-jin.
In Swallow the Sun, Sung Yuri plays a young woman whose family meets with ruin and decides to head off alone to the States to study and make money (which probably explains how she ends up in Vegas). She’ll form a love triangle with a rich chaebol’s son (Lee Wan) and orphan Ji Sung. (And we’ve got at least five clichés right off the bat! Poor girl studies abroad and works to support family, has a chaebol suitor and forms a love triangle contrasting rich and poor.)
Meanwhile, this is Lee Jin’s second summer horror series in as many years; she appeared in last year’s summer horror anthology series Hometown of Legends. In Hon, she plays the prosecutor girlfriend of Lee Seo-jin‘s criminal psychologist character. The story that begins when the soul of a murdered high school student enters the body of the main character.
Swallow the Sun has the higher budget and the bigger hype, but I’ve never really been onboard with the story. Too bad I don’t have the stomach for horror, because I’d throw my vote to Hon / Soul.

Hon sounds like the more interesting drama though I'm not interested in seeing either. i wish Sung Yuri had picked a less boring project.

I would never be so stupid as to say asians look alike. HOWEVER, until I saw the caption, I thought you made a mistake and put up a "with makeup - without makeup" photo of the same person.
I think I'm gonne watch the horror one. I'm kinda full on the rich man/poor girl schtick. I just wanna see some ordinary people do some ordinary things, living their ordinary lives. And if they make out, all the better.

lee jin is not the lead of Hon, so this cannot be considered as a battle
also, jin and yuri are very close friends, closest among all Fin.K.L members

@muffin
Lee Jin and Yuri really don't look alike (despite the above photos).
Lee Jin really should do a comedic series; based on her time on X-Man, she has a flair for comedy.

whatever Finkl rocks, just saw Lee Jin and Hyori together on off the record, and Jin wanted hyori to visit her at the filming, since Hyori is so busy with her works, so dont know if she has time for it, but I do hope Hyori will go, and I hope Yuri will be guest on Family outing, Finkl reunion.

Yeah I think I'll have to pass on both. I'm a fat scaredy cat so I can't watch horror and I have anti-kdrama-cliche sickness so I'm allergic to the other.

You know I thought Swallow the Sun would at least differ a bit from its predecessor All In, but in the end, it's a rehash of the same story. So Ji Sung = LBH, Lee Wan= Ji Sung, Yuri - SHK in All In... and all the friendship and falling in love story between the characters, everything's pretty much the same...
I think I'd stick with Hon/Soul instead.

wasn't Lee Seo Jin Hyori's ex, kind of strange but i guess not so much since i've seen Lee Hyori has worked with Sung Yuri's ex boyfriends.

who is yuri's ex?? Yoon kye sang?
yoon kye sang is already close with hyori since their idols day--- Finkl and G.O.D
LSJ is NOTHING to hyori now, it's all the past
and it's JIn's career and not hyori's career

Hon was really good! Lee Jin is a great actress!! People say Hon looks like a fluke but I thought it was good! If someone else was casted as Lee Hye Won besides Lee Jin then I don't think I would of watched it!!
