Honey Lee performs fusion jazz
by javabeans
The talented Honey Lee — Seoul National University grad, classical music major, 2006 Miss Korea, 2007 Miss Universe 3rd runner-up — is taking her much-lauded skills at the gayageum (classical stringed Korean instrument) and using them for a fusion jazz performance.
She’ll take the stage on May 27 and 28 as part of the “Yoon Hee-jung and Friends Concert” in Seoul, singing and playing her gayageum. She explained, “I’ve always liked jazz. I was also a Yoon Hee-jung fan, and it happened that I received the call about this. I’ve always wanted to try mixing the gayageum with jazz music — this is such a great opportunity.”
Honey Lee is currently in her last semester of graduate studies in classical Korean music. Now, if only she’d put out a fusion album! That would be pretty fantastic.
SONG OF THE DAY
Shin Hye-sung with Honey Lee – “사랑하기 좋은 날” (A good day to love). A re-post. She also received vocal training and collaborated with Shin Hye-sung on this track. I think she has a pretty voice, although given her skills, I’m more interested in her music than her vocals. [ Download ]

Here is the 2007 Golden Disk Awards performance wherein Honey Lee performed along with Epik High for a fusion gayageum-hip-hop rendition of “Fan”:

wow I didn't realize it was Honey Lee who performed the gayageum during the Golden Disk Awards. It was awesome. Fusion albums are cool. There's a band called Hsu-nami that fuses the chinese er-hu with rock music.

She is very pretty! Not to mention talented! I dont mind fusion music...depends if it sounds good....
and, i have to say, i dont mind the creation of fusion music as long as traditional music lingers on.... I dont want it to be completely replaced by the fusion....traditions and culture must be preserved
@ aoi

Dang. I always get a rush of feelings when I see things like this. A lot of pride and wonderment, a lot of pleasure in being able to enjoy such talented expression, and a little bit of jealousy too.
Some people are just more talented than others, you know? It's the way that it is. I am happy for Honey Lee, and at the same time, I am a tiny bit sad that I don't have any kind of talent like that. I kind of suck at music, despite years of guitar and piano lessons and training....
Props to her, and to epikhigh.

Javabean, I can't put comment on the Lee Da Hae's article. Don't be bothered by those who accused you for celebrity baiting and/or trafficking. They are Lee Da Hae's fans who refuse to believe that there are valid reasons why some people are questioning LDH natural beauty. I am not her fan nor her anti and I believe many of the posters there are like myself who just share our objective opinions. Please open the thread for comment again. Thank you

I love Epik High and the song Fan has always left me with chills so it was cool to see Honey Lee perform with them and add a sort of ethereal element to the song.
That said, I LOL-ed when they started "dancing" at the chorus. How cute ^_^
Can anyone recomment any other fusion artists? I know about HSUNAMI due to their myspace >_<
I mean, I'm a fan of crunk music and Chutney Soca but I'm looking for something with more of an east asian feel XD

She's beautiful, extremely talented and represents Korea well. I applaud her fusion performances which I believe will allow more young people to appreciate the beauty of traditional instruments.

Wow, it impress me so much. The idea combinates traditional instrument with modern music is great. In a scene of ancient half, modern half, in melodious sounds mixing tech-no dancing that is quite harmony and makes good effect. I really really like it. She's so charming.

I am always a fan of fusion traditional and pop pieces; Jay Chou is probably the best at doing such Taiwanese pieces although Will Pan has some good ones too although his are more along the lines of Westernized Taiwanese pop.
I absolutely love her collaboration with Epik High on Fan; what an amazing extra touch her piece added to the song overall! I was able to find Epik High's original version of Fan but have been scrambling to find this rendition. Her gayageum just adds an extra "oomph" to the piece that is missing from the original version.
