Thirst’s preview attracts A-list VIPs

Whoaaa. Check out this new still from the vampire film Thirst [박쥐], which recently confirmed that it will be screening at Cannes International Film Festival later this year.

The much-buzzed-about film held its press conference and VIP preview screening on the afternoon of April 24 in Seoul. Given the movie’s high profile (and its director and lead actor), the screening attracted some big names, such as Lee Byung-heon, Jeon Do-yeon, Won Bin, Rain, and Song Hye-gyo.

Lead actor Song Kang-ho, playing the vampire priest who falls for his friend’s wife (Kim Ok-bin), discussed some of the film’s more provocative scenes, one of which serves as the crucial point of the film. He had discussed the scene in some depth with director Park Chan-wook and had no qualms shooting it, as he agreed that it was essential to the story.

Park Chan-wook said, “I watched the film as just an audience member, and the acting in that scene really came off naturally. Perhaps it was the camera location or the size of the screen, or the composition, but rather than trying to be deliberate, it felt like showing something that couldn’t be hidden. I think the audience may feel that nuance too.”

Song Kang-ho has previously worked with Park, for 2000’s Joint Security Area as well as Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and its follow-up, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.

Meanwhile, this project marks a jump in visibility for its female star, Kim Ok-bin, who was one of those early internet uljjangs who parlayed her online fame into an entertainment career (other uljjangs: Gu Hye-sun, Kim Hye-sung, Park Han-byul, Nam Sang-mi). She’s since gone from television dramas (Over the Rainbow, Hello God) to a budding film career (Dasepo Naughty Girls, Disturbance in Her Barroom), and said of this experience, “Working with Song Kang-ho was an incredible honor.”

Fellow co-star Shin Ha-kyun (who plays Kim’s husband), also had similar feelings about working with the respected Song: “It was a huge shock to be told I would be playing a friend to Song Kang-ho sunbae.” He recalls being present when director Park Chan-wook initially spoke about this project ten years ago with Song Kang-ho — Shin also acted in Park’s Joint Security Area — but says, “At that time, I could never have imagined I would be involved in this project too.”

Thirst releases on April 30.

ZOMG, could Rain be any more gangsta? He is seriously like the most interesting/amusing person in the industry - caught Speed Racer the other day and just had to LOL no matter what he was saying or doing because ZOMG, Rain.

Wonbin is so insanely gorgeous; SO looking forward to Mother. And then do a drama, please.

Song Hye Kyo has become tres shiny.

And the important thing, the movie - the stills from this thing are honestly brilliant.

Oh heeeeeeeyyyyyyyy now. Okay, I'll bite. I'm intrigued. That still looks pretty cool.

As for our celebrity guests: Ahahaha, Rain. He's a special kid, that one. And I'm so glad to see Won Bin popping up more and more often. I've always liked him, and I missed seeing his adorable little face. <3

Brilliant director with an equally stellar cast (Kim OkBin's performance actually looks very promising from the new trailer).
This is going to be one amazing movie, can't wait!

Can't wait to watch this film! Everything's about vampires these days - Twilight, True Blood and now Thirst... hope this film slays the others (pun intended :P)

As for the VIP guests, did they leave their make-up kit at home or something? Everyone looks so washed out and tired. The only one looking fab is Kim Min-sun... gorgeous hair and face!

I'm so dying to see this film but well, i will have to wait until the release of the dvd, so sad >_<
Anyway, every Song Hye Kyo guys are there ahahah xD Her "first guy" Won Bin, her second (and real) boyfriend Lee Byung Hun and Rain, her "supposed former-boyfriend-which-must-have-been-pure-imagination" ahaha... So funny, I wonder if she spoke to Lee Byung Hun or Rain, maybe it would have been a tense athmosphere hehe...
Anyway, Thirst seems so good, can't wait to watch it *_*

Yum, I forgot how gorgeous Lee Byung-heon is. Thanks for reminding me!

I enjoy Park Chan Wook's films for many reasons, but one of them is because he doesn't gloss over sex. For some reason, I find that in many Korean movies or dramas, sex is JUST NOT TALKED ABOUT.

It happens people. And, believe me, I've seen my share of movies with pointless sex scenes, but if sex is a plot point, I don't understand why it shouldn't be shown.

Anyways, I think I might rewatch A Bittersweeet Life tonight, just for Lee Byung-heon. I keep forgetting how attractive he is.

Honestly, Rain kind of annoys me. I don't know, he rubs me the wrong way (and I don't even mean that in a perverted way!).

I saw him in A Love To Kill (my favorite drama) and didn't know about his being a popstar (that's how far removed I was from Korean entertainment!). But now that I read blogs and see him as a performer and not as an actor in that series. . .well, I'm not really impressed with what I see. He just seems so cocky to me.

"So funny, I wonder if she spoke to Lee Byung Hun or Rain, maybe it would have been a tense athmosphere hehe…"

Bi and Kyo actually dated?!? I thought they were just good friends. LBH + SHK = really awkward. He was her idol at the time, and it was said that they were close to getting engaged. (Though there are rather strange and disturbing rumors about SHK not wanting to do certain things with LBH . . . )

"For some reason, I find that in many Korean movies or dramas, sex is JUST NOT TALKED ABOUT. "

Uhh actually sex in South Korean movies can be rather graphic.

--Uhh actually sex in South Korean movies can be rather graphic.--

Really? Then maybe I'm just not watching the right ones!

I have seen some sexually graphic Korean movies but they were marketed as Mature +18, which made me think they were marketed solely for the reason that there was sex in the movie, unlike the states, where a lot of movies are rated R (not all may contain sex) and it's not marketed for the sex IN the movie but for the movie (except for those raunchy college movies). (That probably made no sense. It made sense in my head).

But yeah, most k-movies I've seen have at most, a nice kiss and long hug. I don't even want to generalize. I think the only one I remember seeing that showed sexually implicit scenes were 3 (and I'm trying to remember their names right now!), The Intimate (?), Sweet Sex And Love, Oldboy and this other one. . .gosh, I think it was called A Love or About Love (about these two couples that switched partners or cheated with each other).

But like I said, I could just be watching the wrong ones!

Oh man. I love K-Ent gossip because I never hear it. They don't seem to have the crazy media that we have here (Angie's pregnant again! Jennifer is lonely! Lindsay's coked up!).

Song Hye Kyo's was a lucky woman. Lee Byung Hee seems like a great catch (speaks 3 different languages AND a good actor AND good looking? Perfect!).

Also, kind of reminds me of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. She actually MARRIED and had a kid with her idol. Weird. She had that interview in Seventeen magazine when she was younger where she said 'Tom Cruise is the man I want to marry'. And it happened. Hmmm.

@Belleza

No, they didn't but well, they were so many rumors and on the top of that, Bi has been soooo eloquent sometimes (remember the famous "i wanna get married soon and have a daughter as pretty as SHK"...) that I thought it could be quite tense.

On the top of that, it's really amusing to see that three of her former screen opponent are at the preview... Even though it is not the main point here :P

Oh, i didn't know about those strange rumors, so disturbing for SHK, it must have been quite awkward in fact ^^""

Anyway, I agree, Park Chan Wook knows how to put some harsh scene with class and on the top of that, it becomes marvelous, like poetry ...

Actually, I think Open City had a pretty good sex scene, My Wife Got Married too, and it was so funny, Addicted with Lee Byung Hun too, it was great!

"Really? Then maybe I’m just not watching the right ones! "

Ask Kobe, he's probably seen em all. :D Korean guys love to get nekkid in movies. It's all about da butt yo. :D

Sex in South Korean films (which isn't a lot, but surprisingly strong) tend to be more matter-of-fact. More French than Hollywood. It's also incredibly risky for actresses. Kim Hye Soo and Jeon Do-yeon disrobs all the time, but nudity destroyed Kim Eun Joo.

"I love K-Ent gossip because I never hear it. They don’t seem to have the crazy media that we have here "

Oh it's pretty crazy over there. Hong Kong is the worst though.

oh well. This isn't age appropriate for me so I dont think I'll watching it (though I want to know what happens but yeah. A bit too much in the scenes *sigh*)

But I hope it becomes a success at Cannes.

This was a bit weird for me to see Song in that scene since I just watched The Good, The Bad, and the Weird the day before yesterday so I still have this goofy image of him still XD

It was interesting seeing all the people that came too :O

For each picture, I made a caption with each actor/actress XD

Was literally talking to someone about Thirst an hour ago, and then I see this. I don't know if I'll be able to handle it (I'm a true coward when it comes to thriller/horror movie - ask my sister. After I watched Candy Man as a kid, I didn't look into a mirror for 6 months....) but I'm looking forward to it!

Oh yeah..I find a lot of korean movies have graphic sexual content even more graphic than american movies. After watching so many korean dramas, I was shocked when I first watched korean movies as to how sexual or promiscuous they make the women/men to look like. In Korean drama, you used to not see a lot of kissing scenes (although it's changing) but in korean movies, many of them are about sex only.

Morning All!

This movie looks good, really interesting.....and i'd watch just to see if it does "slay" twilight....hehehe! I'll put it on my list........

I'm of two minds about Rain. I loved "A Love to Kill" and "Full house" though not as much. There are times when i really dig Rain and other times when he's just annoying...who knows....i find him sooo cute though!

Won Bin is cute! LBH????....not sure, don't know nuffin bout him as yet.

Interesting convo bout sex in korean movies though....hmmmm...
