Kim Seok-hoon rejoins filming
by javabeans
Actor Kim Seok-hoon of the currently airing drama Iron Empress (Empress Cheon-chu), who was in a pretty serious car accident two weeks ago, is back to work.
The weekend historical series had found itself in a tight spot with their lead actor out of commission, and Kim had felt guilty for missing filming due to his hospitalization. What’s a little unsettling is that apparently the hospital was against Kim checking out, which he did against their recommendation. Released on April 24, he will return to the hospital two to three times weekly for follow-up care.
To accommodate the actor’s condition, in the drama series, Kim Seok-hoon’s character is laid up in bed after being stabbed. Even so, Kim is still suffering from the injury to his lower back and neck, and finds it difficult to walk. The production team is doing what they can to keep the character lying down out of concern for the actor. (Although I say, if you were really worried about Kim’s health, how about you insist he listen to medical opinion instead of succumbing to guilt about delaying the shooting schedule, and just write him out of the plot for a couple of weeks, huh? I mean, this drama is scheduled for 50 episodes, and surely their writing team can somehow whip up some narrative magic to account for an actor’s serious injury.)
Kim’s accident occurred on April 11 after leaving the film set for the day; his vehicle collided with a 5-ton truck while changing lanes.

totally agree with you! By letting him go back to filming- that's saying that they think it's okay for him to feel guilty about missing shooting and that perhaps he should feel guilty about it. And Kim Seok-hoon should also know better- his body is his investment- don't mess with it. if he doesn't heal properly, he might be out of some jobs in the future.

Me three. ::worried sick for the boy:: Do korean productions NEVER substitute another actor when someone is out of commission for a while? or as Sarah says, let him stay in a reclining position keke until he is fully ready to get back in the saddle.

I agree about having him being written out for a few eps.
On the other hand, maybe Kim Seok-hoon insisted on continuing. Like with BYJ in the Legend (I watched the special ep on tv after the series ended, and they used real swords :O) almost got his finger chopped or injured his back, he still insisted to continue. Than again, he's the main lead guy XD

This is so unfortunated for Kim Seok-hoon and the production team. They might have to rewrite the script to phase him out if his condition is not improved, and that can affect the storyline and ratings either way, up or down. Song Il Gook also fell off the horse during filming the last episode of Kingdom of the Winds, but luckily, his injury was not serious and he was able to finish filming the drama. Kim Seok-hoon is not so lucky.
I wonder if there has ever been a situation where the drama had to be cancelled in the middle because the lead actor/actress was not able to continue filming for any reason?

@4: The only one I can think of is "Wolf" with Eric and Han Ji Min. In the scene, Eric was supposed to save her from getting hit by a car. But the stunt driver misread the signal and ended up hitting them both. It was delayed then eventually canceled, only after 4 episodes.
But thank goodness that didn't happen here. Best wishes to Kim Seok hoon and the crew!

There is this long TW-drama serial which had the female leading playing an early 50s character. In real life, she got pregnant and they wrote her character off as estranged from husband and went into hiding for a whole 9 months. And I thought korean writers should just be as creative. But we are not really talking about pregnancy here are we? And my point is : what is a whole month compared to 9? Ya!
Kim Seok-hyun ahjusshi, back injury is no small matter! Please go and get some rest.
