Cinderella Man production press conference

I admit to poking a bit of fun at MBC’s upcoming series Cinderella Man, but I will say from photos of the drama’s production press conference, it does have one good-looking cast. (Of course, merely casting pretty actors never ensures quality, but when you’re approaching a drama with low expectations of the body-switching, weirdly-cast, cliché-ridden story, eye candy becomes important.)

Kwon Sang-woo and Yoon-ah, above, still look a little more like “Daddy’s little girl” than romantic counterparts, but I’m willing to give it a shot.

Like I said, good-looking, right?

The drama held its production press conference on the afternoon of April 2 at Lotte Hotel in Seoul. Cast members present were, in order above, Kwon Sang-woo (Bad Love), Yoon-ah (You’re My Destiny), Han Eun-jung (Lawyers of Korea), and Song Chang-eui (Scale of Providence).

Kwon was asked about the 14-year age difference between him and Yoon-ah, and whether they’d feel a generation gap. (He was born in 1976, she in 1990.) He explained that it’s a “strange and interesting” feeling (신기하다), which Yoon-ah also echoed, particularly since he’s an “oppa” she’d never imagined getting to act with. Kwon said, “We haven’t conversed enough yet to feel a generation gap, but seeing her on set, she’s even prettier in person and she acts well, which puts me at ease. When I’m filming with other people, I don’t make many NGs [mistakes], but only with Yoon-ah, I have a lot of NGs.”

He also explained what a novel feeling it was to talk to Yoon-ah’s Girls’ Generation groupmates via video phone, thanks to his co-star.

Kwon was also asked if he felt any pressure with this drama (following his mess of a drama Bad Love). He answered that he doesn’t feel too much pressure: “My last drama didn’t do so well, so I’d like for this one to do better than that. Whatever the project, when I’ve thought insistently that ‘This one did well so the next one must do better,’ things haven’t worked that way.”

Cinderella Man premieres April 15.

sorry if this question is being asked before, but who is the female lead?

* about the age gap, they look so much better together than the gap between painter of the wind leads.. now thats more like a father/daughter relationship..

@24 Maria: i agree with the working it in thing; they did that in Who Are You with Go Ara and Yoon Kye Sang and pulled it off pretty well I thought... from the trailers, since they're going for the comedic angle, I doubt they'd do that here. In the first stills they released, I thought they did a surprisingly good job of making Yoona look older, but here she looks super-young again.

Honestly, it just reeks of KSW being a try-hard... ["I'm So Nyuh Shi Dae's Kwong Sang Woo"...? Not in this century, buddy ^^]. That said, the trailers do look pretty fun. I'll give it a whirl and hope it surprises me.

i'm not going to comment on the age issue because i think everyone's pretty much covered that...
i'm just offended for han eun jung, who is playing second fiddle - supporting actress to yoona.
han eun jung outweighs her colleague in experience and acting abilities.
i mean when i first heard yoona was cast as love interest for kwon sang woo, i seriously thought it was a joke. and i still can't actually believe, they're going to go with this casting.
casting yoona is obviously a last resort in ensuring high ratings, which is fine, but at least other dramas are subtle and make the casting somewhat believeable and justifiable. it's just so blunt and pathetic.
i mean the storyline sounds lame too, and kwon sang woo isn't as loved as he used to be.
this just has wtf all over it...

well snsd is marketed for older men anyway, so their girls being coupled with them is not surprising at all. the ajusshies would feel like they have a chance now and go on drooling over them and buying their stuff.

I'm not creeped out by the age difference at all. I guess I'm just used to it. Besides Kwon is hot enough to get away with it :)

Comparing it to painter of the wind, i think this pairing bothers me more because while moon geunyoung is actually legally of age, while yoonah is not, even though the age diff there was a lot bigger. but for me the bigger factor was that moon actually has the skills to make the chemistry work and disregard the age, while yoonah lacks that. meh... i don't like kwon sangwoo anywho. :/

im giving this a try, not because i like kwon sang woo, but maybe because i want to see really, how is this going to be like. cause...how are they going to kiss if there is a kissing scene? maybe she can pull a choi ji woo on us? (chemistry with her male leads) i am curious.

but as long as yoona doesn't end up tying her hair up in a bun and looking like an ahjumma i'm pretty fine with her look here.

so there's three guys and 2 girls. so...ksw will fight with ksw with sce over yoona. wow. messy.

i think it would have made more sense if Yoon-ah was paired up with Song Chang-eui..i mean yeah there's still a big age gap but atleast it looks like it could actually happen...and yeah i agree in that picture where Yoon-ah is in between the two guys one can't help but think that it's just a girl with her two older brothers.

I'm not really a big fan of KSW, but I admit he's a great actor. And I really don't know why, but I've been eager to watch this drama since I heard of the synopsis (the dual role stuff). mainly because I wanna see how the actor gonna act this part. But after I saw the trailer (and the shocked look on both Kwons when they saw each other was priceless lol), I'm even more eager to see how this drama will fare. I will definitely keep an eye on it and watch 2 or 3 eppies then decide whether it's worth it or not. But honestly, KSW doesn't look this old, actually he looks really good with Yoon Ah in their pics on the set.

OMG...besides all the other comments about how the couple seems a little creepy and how kwong sang woo is on his way to becoming a professional and not to mentioned paid pedophile,

IN THE FIRST PICTURE DOESN'T YOONA LOOK SOOO MUCH LIKE KIM BUM FROM BBF??!?!

it may be my imagination. or perhaps my brain has been invaded by F4's prettyness. or maybe i missed the note exclaiming that they're siblings. but. they look so similar. i think it might be the eyes...

Kwon Sang Woo looks old and Yoon-A is ordinary looking. I can't picture a chemistry between these two but prove me wrong. I have to say among all KSW dramas and movies, he has the best chemistry with Choi Ji Woo in STH. Nothing beats that.

Song Chang-eui suppose to be Kwon Sang Woo's older brother? and Kwon Sang Woo is supposed to have a love relationship with yoona? in what planet are they from??

How old was Zhang Yimou when he dated Gong Li and then years later when he dated Zhang Ziyi, and what planet were they from? Hmmm, I guess that kind of thing happens on this planet too. When it happens in movies and television it's called "acting." Haven't we already been all over the this age thing with Boys Over Flowers which ended up with a 34% rating? What does reality have to do with fantasy, anyway? Just wondering...

AGe should not be a factor for me. As an actress, one should be able to light that candle up close to an already known super star.

Yoona mabe young, but KSW is very handsome & charming too.

For me she should do very well....

@40 Robbo4: I do agree with you..
To the actors the most important is acting then others one else like appearance and characteristics.. Kwon Sang Woo combines all!
... I believe this drama will be a hit!
