Gu Hye-sun’s Tango
by javabeans
Currently overworked Boys Before Flowers star Gu Hye-sun now has a title and publication date for her upcoming book: “Tango,” and March 31.
Gu Hye-sun: “One day, I was listening to the song ‘Tango’ by Ryuichi Sakamoto, and a lot of stories went through my mind. That’s why I titled the book ‘Tango’ and how I started writing. The book deals with the loves and breakups that one woman experiences, and her growth through them. The main character is a lot like me.”
(Gotta give it to her — it’s a great song to find inspiration in! I LOVE Ryuichi Sakamoto’s music.)
SONG OF THE DAY
Ryuichi Sakamoto – “Tango” (Version Castellano). There’s a Japanese-language version of this song, but I particularly like this one. [ Download ]

This isn’t Gu Hye-sun’s first writing endeavor — she’d scripted the short film she directed, The Cheerful Caretaker — but Tango will be her first book.
Despite the entire cast of the drama series scraping by on minimal sleep or rest, Gu Hye-sun has actually been writing her novel AS she’s been shooting Boys Before Flowers. (Not only that, she actually started Tango after starting work on BBF; she has has been writing for the past four months in her spare moments. As though she has any.) After her car accident a few weeks ago, her first concern was for her laptop computer, fearing that her work had been destroyed (it hadn’t), and continued writing as she recovered in the hospital.
After the book comes out, Gu has announced her intention to put out a “new age album” of music she’s written. I’m all for exercising creative talent, but geez, I’m tired even reading about it.
Lady, get some rest, please! (Yer making the rest of us lazy bums look bad.)

Waiting for her book recap (hint, hint) LOL. What I like about GHS is her determination to do whatever she wants...whether she's good at it or not she gives it her best and learned from it. Just like acting, she knows she's not the best, doesn't claim to be the best and know there's always room for improvement and has improved tremulously compared to the beginning of her acting career. She has so many interest she can't settle down to focus on one task at a time (which could be good and bad depending how she managed her time). I like her quiet strength and inner determination in knowing herself and what she wants to do. I find it admirable that she still keep treading forward and is so hands on re her interest^_^ (despite what other people say, the criticism and negativity etc. this girl somehow finds positive in all the negative...and keep on working. which sometimes awe me and makes me feel like a lazy bum...and of course totally respect her).

@31: IloveBBF: I thinks she is talented too of course and I'm so sure that is a very smart girl too but one can't denied that her acting in BBF is not her best performances. Yes, some may enjoyed but being objective it's not her best. I think when we call a true actor or actress they have to face constructive criticism. Even Oscar nominees and winners have to face that too.
If you love her and want her to improve in acting, saying that she shouldn't read negative comments is not smart at all. Ignore the lame critics but have to take into consideration the serious and objective critics. I always like her personality (outside drama) and believe she is a very determine, smart and talented who always can can face criticism that can improve her.
I agree with 45#aloneinthedark and 49# belleza:
I think she is more smooth behind the scene. She has lot's to give and talent in art, paints, directing etc. Not so much in acting though.
But!
You go girl and take care. Please..

Okay, I just got giddy over the Sakamoto connection. Am amused! I'm actually used to a slower, more languid version of this song. I think I like them equally.

Is it just me, or she looks a lot like Ueno Juri (Noda Megumi in Nodame Cantabile) in the first picture?
Anyway. Like what one poster said, the more I know her, the more I like her. She's a pretty good role model actually.
And I have nothing bad to say about her performance in Lee Hana's peppermint. She's still shy on stage, and its understandable since she's not really used to it. (and she's really shy in person as well) The duet that she did with SeungRi was ok, yeah, there might be a few cringes here and there, but it was an improvement, I think, compared to her live version of Sarang Ga before. (which, maybe 2 or 3 years ago. I don't really know.)

Why all the creative endeavors....so many at one time? probably trying to use the popularity she gained from BOF before it fizzles to gain interest in her book and music.... Nothing wrong with that....its all business probably orchestrated by her management.
I guess we'll just have to see how good they'll be. So far, drawing and directing, scripting, acting....she's good but not awesome. I have the feeling she's just one of those people that's good at many things but doesn't excel at any one thing. Personally I would prefer to be someone that is a genius at one thing but I guess its nice to have many different kinds of creative outlets like her.

Well, she's on a roll and she should make the most of it. But on other blogs, people have commented how really bad her acting is. They really disliked her in BBF and many many people commented what a bad choice and how she ruined BBF for them.
Honestly, I hate to say it, but I liked it better in BBF when she played and sang a little at the piano. Music may be her best area. Sorry, just couldn't stand her as an actress although she sounds like a nice person.

Geesh... What a bunch of haters. I really don't think her acting is all that bad. The bottom line is she's pretty, smart, talented and famous and a lot of people are just miserable and jealous since they will be nowhere near what she has already accomplished.

I really enjoyed BOF. I saw it twice. I loved it more the second time after I heard all the negatvive comments about GHS's acting. When I saw it the first time, I was too swayed by all the negative comments about her acting. But I loved her acting in Pure 19 that I decided to see BOF the second time just for the pure drama. Wow, I really enjoyed her acting!. She was in most of the scenes and made the story and the drama so enjoyable. She is both a comedienne and a dramatic actor. I know nothing about acting as a craft, but I would assume it is an interpretation of a role/character. I personally feel that she did a great job! I am sure she is not perfect and she got lots of crappy criticisms as opposed to all the pretty F4. Even the reporters in the beginning, I thought, were so biased towards the F4. How should we know what she would be doing in her future? None of us should be the ones telling her that. Those of you who said she should stay behind the camera, how do you know that? Whether she decides to quit acting or do more behind the camera work, I hope to hear more about her---she is really awesome. I praise her acting!

Well, I think she's very amtibious. I'm too but I'm not brave as she. I'm so shy and always afraid of being unsuccessful, So I admire her very much! I hope to read "Tango" in near future.

well actually, that's really good for her..the recent suicides of some korean artists are creeping me out so I'm really happy that she's making herself really busy and enjoying herself..A person should explore his different abilities, personalities and characteristics so he could appreciate everything he has in life.
