Jang Nara is back in Sky and Sea
by javabeans
Singer-actress Jang Nara hasn’t been that active in the Korean industry in recent years, focusing much of her career in China instead. (She was also burdened with several planned projects failing to come together.) Now she’s making her film comeback in the movie Sky and Sea, in which she plays a violinist.
Directed by Oh Dal-kyun, the movie also stars Yoo Ah-in (Antique Bakery, Strongest Chil Woo) and another singer-actress, Hyun Juny (Beethoven Virus‘s flutist).
On February 5, the press was invited to the set as the cast and crew underwent a test shoot.
In the film, Jang Nara’s character loses her parents in a car crash and lives by the sea with her stepmother. (The title is a bit of a pun, as her character’s name is “Haneul,” the word for sky.)
This film comes four years after Jang’s last role in a Korean production (the KBS drama Wedding) and six years since her last movie (Oh Happy Day). She explained, “I’m a little worried whether I can do a good job, but I’m preparing with excitement.”
The description of the story sounds vague, describing twentysomethings who come together as family to help each other heal from personal wounds. (It doesn’t sound that exciting, but I won’t write it off, because something like this strikes me as dependent on tone.) The film projects a fall release date.
It’s kind of hard to believe that Jang is nearly 28 in these photos, isn’t it? (She was born in March 1981.) I think she’s easily mistaken for years younger, but she said of the character, “I’m almost thirty now, so to be playing a twenty-year-old, I do feel a little embarrassed.” Asked about the secret to looking young, she said, “I don’t diet excessively.”
Jang has had several projects fizzle on her in recent years, and as a result, she said, “When projects fell apart for whatever reason, I wondered, ‘Maybe I’m unlucky,’ but seeing the current economic state, I realize I’m not the only one facing difficulty. I’m very thankful just for the work I’m doing now.”

dang, isnt' she little bit old to be Yu Ah-In's partner? maybe she won't be his partner....hmmm
oh did y'all hear that news? Our beloved LeeMinHo is having trouble finding next drama/movie because of car accident he got from 3 years ago. He was seriously injured and they had to embed this steel supporting thing into his legs, so his leg bones would hold properly. He still has them because he is not fully healed even yet, and the doctors told him not to peform any kinds of vigorous activities including intense sports and actions. (They said if he does, then thing would crush his leg bones literally into pieces) Since he is tall and handsome and everything, the usual roles he is offered require tremendous amount of actions, so he can't find next drama yet despite all the offers he is getting. He said after BBF, he is going to get surgery to remove those steel things from his legs and get therapies to fasten the healing process.

I'm so glad to see Hyun Jyu-ni's career going well. She was wonderful in B.V. Too bad there weren't enough awards to go around, she deserved one.

As a singer/actress the set backs likely hurt her more than if she was just an actress. It is such a major effort to make time to appear in a film or drama as she has to try and balance out her schedule from all her other activities.
She been trying to find time to make some sort of Korean acting project to do, as a form of a thank you to her Korean fans who supported her during her times in china, even to the point of turning down work in china. So I am glad for her that it worked out for her.
Jang Nara is well known for her looking younger than she is, I sometimes think to a point where it becoming something of an embarrassment to her, and she sometimes comes across as trying to act and appear older than she has to be. As if beacuse she closing in on 30 she has to look and act older than she is before she has to, if you get what I mean.

@soysauce: HAHA! I know right? ;] Well maybe it's just for the photo shoot or something (: won't be like that in the movie? Let's hope.. haha, unless she's not a "professional" in the movie then that's different.

I wonder if she has played violin before? I cannot bear to see an actor pretends to play an instrument. It looks so lame. This is one of the reasons I could not continue to watch Beethoven Virus after the first eposide.

She can play the flute very well, must be hard wired into the script that her character plays the violin and not any other instrument.
Jang Nara was a model in her teens and made her first CV in 1997 I think, anyway she been in entertainment biz for over ten years, a lot of people forget that.
Can not help but laugh when her first single , where they tried a sexy image for her was deemed a failure because it only made number 12 on the charts, I sure most people would be delighted to have their first record even make the music chart never mind number 12. Though perhaps it was the image that failed as the two singles from her first full album went to number one [still a record I believe in Korea]
after she went back to her natural 'cute' image.
