Uhm Tae-woong’s sageuk drama debut
by javabeans
Hmm, interesting. Uhm Tae-woong (Devil, Rebirth) is making his sageuk debut in MBC’s Queen Seon-deok, opposite actresses Go Hyun-jung (HIT) and Lee Yo-won (Surgeon Bong Dal-hee).
Uhm is one of those wonderfully intense actors — I love watching him act — and no doubt he’ll do his part justice, but I’m so used to seeing him play tough modern guys that this will be an interesting change. He plays 7th-century general Kim Yu-shin, who accomplished the feat of unifying the Korean peninsula, which at that time had been the Three Kingdoms of Baekje, Goguryeo, and Silla.
His character shares a romantic storyline with Princess Deok-man (who becomes Queen Seon-deok), played by Lee Yo-won. Their relationship starts to evolve from friendship into love while she is still princess, but upon her ascension to the throne, complications ensue.
The drama begins airing in May. Meanwhile, Uhm’s thriller movie Cell Phone (another fictional plot bearing resemblance to actress Jeon Ji-hyun’s current phone-forging brouhaha) releases in mid-February.

Extremely underrated playing silly/weirdo characters BTW. His enunciation can sometimes get sloshy. Lee Yo Won and Eom Tae Woong = lotsa screaming and yelling! :D Go Hyung Jung + Eom Tae Woong = scenes of epik presence and smoldering!! Yes, this casting is full of WIN for Queen Seon-deok.

There's a bit of a lisp there, though not as strong as Kwon Sang Woo.

Sloshy? Huh, I don't find that with Uhm. I've never had a hard time understanding him. And Kwon Sang-woo has a lisp, but I don't think either actor has enunciation problems. That goes for mumblemumble marblemouth actors like... well, Kim Hyun-joong in BBF, for one (I have to rewind him constantly to figure out the ends of his phrases).

Oh yeah, HE's sloshy. It's adorable!! :D
"Huh, I don’t find that with Uhm. "
It's a little lispy for my taste, but I like it. I like short-tongued actors! That's one I love about Kim Ji Soo; you can almost see the spit fly! :D

Hmm, Uhm Tae-woong does not have a lisp.
And like you, Sarah, I LOVE watching him act. (Have you watched him in Fight yet? Last heard, Dahee is positively drowning in drool after finishing Fight. ^^) I love watching him in NGs even more. No airs at all.

Definitely a great cast!!! I wasn't really interested in this drama even though I generally like both GHJ and LYW because it's a Sageuk, but now that ETW is cast, I'm definitely watching this!!!! I love watching him act too despite his sometimes over-the-top acting because he does deliver great performances. I'm super excited and I haven't been this excited about a drama in a very long time. Thunderbolt, I love watching him in NGs too. Love his shy smile when he makes NGs. But too bad I have to wait until May.

Uhm Tae-Woong has played a historial character before. Remember those stupid dream sequences in Sassy Girl Chun Hyun. He looked the part. Can't wait for this series.

"Someone Dear Is Far Away With Soo Ae and Forever the Moment with Kim Jung Eun!"
His character is unlikable (for good reason) at the beginning of the film, but as he goes through the "war is hell" experience, you just want him to stay alive. The ending with him is memorable. BTW Jan Jin-young (very uhh unkingly here) steals the movie, the bit with him singing the national anthem is terrifying and funny at the same time.
He's wonderfully pompous in Forever the Moment. Kang-mae without a clue. :D Terrific movie for Kim Jung Eun fans too.

Love him. He was in two of my all time favorite kdramas Devil and resurrection. He single-handily resurrected my love of kdramas and made me believe there is a few golden grains amongst the chafe.

@jean,
"To belleza: any clue on where to catch these 2 movies on internet please?"
You can definitely buy both films now, actually. But, yeah, both movies are around the typical streaming sites.
I actually didn't think "Sunny" was very good (though to be fair, I was kinda "eh" about Cold Mountain and I didn't like "A Very Long Engagement" at all <-- "war as quest" narratives are fun, but difficult to substantiate as a character study.) The vignettes within Saigon are pretty well done, and you can tell, by the quality of the cinematography and even the color choices, that director Lee Jung-ik was chomping at the bit to shoot My War Movie. But "Sunny" really isn't a compelling character ("underwritten" as opposed to "enigmatic", and that's important to the nature of the story), and Soo Ae is uneven ((though absolutely great in a key scene when performing for the Yanks) as well. The individual details (esp. Saigon life) are well done. And there's a potent Ike/Tina vibe between Soo Ae and Jan Jin Young. And the familiarity between the Koreans and Vietnamese will be really striking to an American viewer conditioned to American Vietnam War movies, moreso than the typically negative depiction of the Americans. But, it didn't quite add up for me.
"Forever the Moment" is really, really good. The best bits are the scenes between Kim Jung-Eun and Moon Sori; you can really feel that their characters have known each other forever as both rivals and friends. Moreover, through the two characters, Forever the Moment quietly comments on the realities between the usual cliches of the Sports Movie. This moment may be forever, but it is but a moment. Life itself is the bigger game; the movie leaves you with that.

Am I the only one who think he's ugly?? Look at his wrinkles! And his big flat nose!! And those pimples!!
BiDam and Alcheon Rang stole the show for hot guys, lol. Lee Yo Won look tomboyish--that's why she suits the role. QSD is supposed to be smart, not pretty. Cheon Myeong was UGLY. She looks freaking old with those cheekbones. MiShil was quite pretty, but too fat. Look at her sausage fingers!!
Pretty girls only include young actresses portraying the young characters,
