Jeon Ji-hyun has the geeks excited
by javabeans
CNN has put up its list of “15 Movies for Geeks in 2009,” and the Hallyu contingent actually has a decent showing on it.
Jeon Ji-hyun‘s (aka Gianna Jun) Hollywood debut movie Blood the Last Vampire sits in the #3 slot, behind Fanboys at #1, Coraline at #2.
Meanwhile, Park Joon-hyung, former G.O.D. singer turned actor, has got the #5 spot with his role in Dragonball Evolution, while Daniel Henney‘s X-Men Origins: Wolverine is at #6. Lee Byung-heon is featured as Storm Shadow in #11 flick G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.
Of course, some of these parts are more prominent than others; Jeon has a lead role in her film, but the others are merely featured players, ranging from Requisite Asian Ninja Villain to blink-and-you-might-miss-’em appearances. But hey, even if the Hallyu stars are unable to break through as mainstream players, at least they’ve got the geek contingent all sewn up.

Not surprising. Geeks have good taste. I wouldn't go see it, either.

Huh, this is interesting. Never heard of Blood: the Last Vampire.
A moment of nerdiness: UUUUGH why is Dragonball Evolution on there!? A movie that does NOT capture the Dragon Ball spirit AT ALL. I have extremely low expectations of that movie. Almost everything about the plot is so...UN-Dragon Ball/Z/GT. It is not a movie for the Dragon Ball nerds/geeks/neeks whatever.

Kristin Kreuk is playing Chun Li? Lana Lang ruined all of Smallville for me. How is this possible? Sure, she's hot, but Chun Lin?

i wonder how small Daniel Henney's role in Wolverine actually is. i was astonished that he was featured in the trailer more than once - and even had a line.
he's such a bad actor i can't imagine they'd use him more than necessary. he is playing a character who was originally German.

i think she will failled, all asian star accross hollywood without something to brag usually failed in Hollywood, not to underestimate this
Rain : Speed Racer is a Flop movie!!, from $200 million cost only back $50 million~ read at Yahoo, and then another korean american will play as Villain.
it's different case like Jackie Chen, Jet Li, Chow yoon fat, Maggie Cheung ( this Cannes Winner just start debuted in Hollywood , why She didn't start from earlier she said she didn't confidence with her ability ~ this after she won cannes ). they Well known From HK before, has lot experienced and widely known in their area. so if they success in Hollywood they deserved it
Maggie Q she is unforgetable, then Isabelle leong too.
only LBH actor that might be better, in korea cross hollywood he has experiences.
i hate why many K stars love to play in hollywood but!! hey where is your experience
Even someone name known in Hollywood for their acting skill like Song KangHo he prefer Playing in his Country than hollywood

Ahahah I'm very loyal to the Dragon Ball series so I'm going to watch it, sure it doesn't look great, but it looks like the main material is there, but people have to understand Dragon Ball is as cheesy as it gets. The plot is.. errr right on?
This is what you need in order to make it Dragon Ball
1. DRAGON BALLS
2. PICCOLO
3. GOKU
4. Goku getting trained by Roshi, which will happen
5. Goku trying to find the Dragon Balls before Piccolo in order to stop him
6. Epic battle
Even from the trailer I see most of this is going to be in it so why complain about the plot because that is the plot.
But as I said, it doesn't look great but it looks like something.

geeks of the world unite! i just wanted to contribute more comments to this article...& i for one am excited to see so many hallyu stars on cnn's list...considering the type of cinematic fare we're talking about...it might not even matter if the acting is bad...people will be paying more attention to the blood & guts element of the films...

hmmmm, I still think Jeon Ji-hyun does not look like Saya.
She's way too thin and model looking, I always imagined Saya to be petite and more like a girl next door.
But I am looking forward to Wolverine though.
