Movies first, army second
by javabeans
Remember how Jo In-sung (A Dirty Carnival) had applied for the army’s entertainers unit?
He’d undergone all the requisite physical and in-person exams and was ready to go if accepted; he was to enlist (avoiding regular active duty) on January 19. Now he’s just announced that he has delayed his enlistment till March “because of promotion-related reasons for his movie Frozen Flower.”
(Ha! Sounds like someone got denied and is trying to spin this to make the deferment sound like it was his idea. I mean, it’s not like the movie suddenly sprouted promotional needs; it’s been there all this while, dude.)

I like Jo In-seong, a LOT, he's one of the most very talented korean actors, that's mean a short list of names. But seriously I can't see him in the army and I think he thinks that too ^^

lol. Looks like he really wanted to get accepted into the entertainment unit.
Or should I say it looks like he really didn't want to do regular active duty?

I don't get it...what reasons would the army have to deny him? He isn't physically unfit or anything...

I mean let's be honest here, not everyone needs to be in the military and I wish Korea would change it's laws to voluntary rather than forceful actions. JWS has as much interest in the military as I do in brussel sprouts.

i agree with dwilliams on this -- nobody...nobody would like to be in that kind of situation at all in the military & we all should understand that, we don't have to be in the military to know what it's like so let's understand these actors! let's support whatever it is they may have re their personal issues! we can't be judgemental! i love jo inseung & i'm not saying this to defend him or protect him, I'm just saying this in general & for all the others like Lee Dong Gun who will soon be enlisted as well. Regardless of what their issues are, we should understand them! Let's just pray Korea would as Dwilliams indicated here changes its laws soon! I have a friend who's been through this & he's now in his mid-age, but he tells me it was hard work & could be dangerous! You can't blame these young actors then for dreading to be in that situation! Jo Inseung I look forward to seeing your latest movie! You're one of Korea's talented actors for sure! Aja!

Just imagine would it would be like if they had women under this obligation too. That does sound like a spin to avoid saying he got rejected though.

I kinda think it would be funny to see what excuses would arise from the women in the film and entertainment sector if women were included in mandatory enlistment.
