@ hyunjin: I tried to watch EoE, but it was not attractive enough for me to watch through even I Am a kdrama addict. i do not say SSH is bad, I say KMM is the best, yeah, in this case.
To me, he is brilliant in both White Tower, BV, Bad Family( SBS), his acting in The Return ( movie 2007) is excellent too.
SSH deserves any of other awards but Daesang!

After watching this boring award show, I think the rumors that SSH and LYH dating are true. Notice every time LYH is on stage and the camera pans to SSH, he is grinning like a school boy in love. It looks sick. They look like they are in love. Is this why SSH booted LDH from the series?

You don't have to watch the whole drama to get the point who is better actor. Why the auction is only for several minutes not the whole week?
I am a vivid fan of EOE, watching every episode and several times rewatch. And I watched only 2 or 3 episodes of BV but I still said that SSH's acting is no par to KMM's acting. Oops and don't throw rocks as I like SSH, watched all his dramas, movies and never watched any of KMM's dramas before.

There is a difference in good plot or trendy plot and good acting. BV may not have the best plot, EOE, I doubt it either but at least it's more trendy (btw farewell the hope that EOE may resume Korean modern history and recall Sandglass's days because it's more trendy so far). However, judging the acting is different. A good actor may still act and bring his/her best even with the worst plot, maybe that drama can't bring high rating but still, acting is different thing.

I myself think that overwhelmed awards for EOE is too much. I would be happy if they recognized JMK, YDG, HJH, PHJ for acting, SSH and LYH for popularity; even the script award I think it's not that good but maybe no better script this year so this is a pass. The rest well is overrated.

BV's rating wasn't super high but it wasn't low. It competed against 2 very strong shows: Song Il-Kook's 20 billion Won sageuk "Kingdom Of The Wind" (from the writing/directing team of hit dramas "Emperor Of The Sea" & "Jumong") and MoonGeunYoung+ParkShinYoung's "Painter Of The Wind". It was touted as the battle of 3 grand prize winners (KMM, SongIlKook, Park ShinYoung won Grand Prize for their dramas before). Who would have thought/guessed that BV (possibly the show with the smallest budget among these 3) will emerge as the winner in the rating game. The race was very tight from the beginning to the end, all 3 dramas obtained double digit ratings. If I remember correctly, certain episode(s) passed 20% rating (according to TNS's daily rating).

Just because most people think that SSH shouldn't be winning Daesang doesn't mean that they are KMM fans, LDH fans, bittered fans, etc. KMM's famous for his acting skill, we don't have to be his fans to acknowledge this. In my opinion, BV is far from "White Tower" in many ways, but his acting still shines compared to other nominees.

KMM totally deserved Daesang by himself. i liked SSH, but most of the EOE cast out shined his character. MBC should get some balls, really.

@ 77 hyunjin, I am an avid watching of EOE and even I was surprised that SSH was given the DAESANG award. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions and yes based on ACTING, KMM deserved the Daesang award and SSH does not. We don't care about all the politics that is happening at MBC right now, people are voicing their opinion based on the meaning of the Daesang award and the answer: CLEARLY KMM IS the winner. SSH has a long way to go before he is on par with KMM.

BTW EOE had one of the most controversy and inconsistent plot. Many of the other stars have outshine SSH in their performance. As for LYH that is a joke with her performance as well..maybe a jink about the year of the OX

i heard from a korean source that right after the ceremony, the reporters flocked to KMM for photos and interviews but none (i know, could be an exaggeration but this is what my source told me) went to SSH. the media people clearly know who's the real winner between the two.

in any case, i feel sorry for SSH coz he's bashed because of this award...it's not his fault really...

and i agree with hhg998 that the daesang lost its glory :(

If Song Seung-hun can get a Daesang, then I think Park Hae-jin is eligible for the Super Daesang! He has been creating the peaks in ratings for EoE, and all unbiased viewers know that his acting outshines Song in every way possible.

Not to mention, Kim Bum should be eligible for the Super Daesang as well. He set the bar too high in the beginning episodes for Song to even do half as good a job.

You don't have to be a Song hater, a LDH fan, a EoE hater, a LYH hater etc. to know that Song's acting does not deserve the (not 'a') Daesang. His acting is no way horrid (Hello, Dennis Oh!), but nothing brilliant yet.

So I guess we can safely say that MBC's Daesang is not awarded to the actor with the most acting skill, but moreso to the one who is the most popular, in the drama with the highest rating.

I have always had good feelings about KBS, not really for MBC and SBS. lol.

I think SSH and KMM deserve to win daesangs becuase each of them has unique acting skills in different sections. Each drama has a different story. Just imagine that, if KMM is Lee Dong Chul in EOE, then that role is not fitted him. the same as SSH If he is in BV. That is why choosing the script is important to them because they want themselves to merge into the characters of the drama so they can act like real life. They all deserve that.

@ 120: I think KMM could be a good Lee Dong Chul, he did a great job in Bad Family- SBS ( where he played a role which was definitely different from Dr. Jang- White Tower and his role in BV).
However, I do agree with you that it's important for actors to choose the appropriate script.
I'm curious to see KMM in My love by my side because the precious chosen actor was Kwan Sang Woo, I think they have different styles. A challenge for KMM.

SSH may not be the best actor to most but I think he tries his darnest to do it and that is all we can ask.........personally I like him better as a singer than as an actor but he likes to act .....so all we can do as fans is give our support..........I cringe when he is in a crying scene otherwise he is not that bad.
They definitely deserve to be the best couple and the best popular and I hope they are happy together as well in real life even if they are just friends hope for more tho' (SSH and LYH)

Let me first tell you that this is an excellent, even amazing, blog about Korean drama.

As for the grand prize given to SSH and Kim Myung-min altogether, there is another explanation - not mine, but one shared by some Korean blogs.

MBC is pushing hard for the East of Eden as it intends to sell it to other countries, Japan, China and etc. Grand prize for leading actors and actresses would surely be helpful for marketing on the part of MBC.

I think this explanation is quite plausible.

Beethoven virus is great drama , but LJA ( lead actress ) acting skill is still not impressive . For EoE , confusing plots , love stories are so boring , poor SSH ,he never has good actress to pair with , no chemistry between SSH and Grace character at all . Sorry to comment but Korean actors are more talented and more good looking than K actresses !

i dont understand why everyone loves beethoven virus! it was a crappy drama, with crappy acting, with crappy actors and just crappy ass effects. i mean the whole acting w/ the instruments was just so overdramatic and fake. i mean EOE got better ratings than BV. but i guess ppl love a drama w/ a weird ass guy, a rich ass fat girl and a probably gay guy...

Re tapered pants - yes, I must admit that I noticed in the various Korean TV drama dvds I have bought scu as Winter Sonata, Hotelier, etc - the male actors wear tapered pants and it does not look good even on tall guys like BYJ. This is merely constructive criticism. Sorry but I still love watching and will continue buying the dvds. Aside BYJ, I just love the acting of Kwon Sang Woo and Song Il Gook.

i just found this blog,and actually really like it....but why is everyone blaming SSH for his Daesang Awards??i really think that he DESERVED it since he did really well in EoE...those who said KMM is better it simply because of his character in BV,but SSH really did a great job in EoE....
