Tablo publishes a short story collection
by javabeans
Following in the footsteps of fellow musicians Lee Juck and Horan, Epik High’s Tablo is coming out with a short-story collection, to be published next month.
“When the book is released, I’m sure people will ask, ‘Did Tablo really write this?’ In my university days, I was known as a literature geek.” The now-28-year-old refers to his education from 1998 through 2001 at Stanford University, which is when he wrote the stories, which are set in New York and feature a diverse cast of characters. The collection contains approximately ten “human drama” stories, and Tablo is adapting and translating the stories that were originally written in English.
He explained, “The image I’ve displayed to the media and the public these past years has been different from the real me. There have been a lot more instances where the image has been distorted rather than accurate. I’m grateful for everyone’s interest, but I want to be judged only by my music.” (And, I presume, now his stories.)
As for Epik High, they’ve just released their first mini-album, Lovescream, featuring their new single “1 Minute 1 Second.”

hmm i hope an English version is released since the stories were originally in English. It would be interesting to read how he used New York as a location of his book since I live there.
btw, i wish you could have an interview with Tablo. It would seem like you two would a great conversation together :D

i knocked on wood..hoping i would see more articles like this, instead of tragedy of the past few days. i think being korean, i think we over dramatize everything, and find our self in desperation, and feel like the only way out is death. Live on. fighting~

Tablo is too cool. I respect him so much. And Lovescream is awesome. I think I like it better than Pieces. Their music seems to have turned a 180 since Remapping.

I second all requests for english version. Since they were originally written in English, there doesn't need to be the whole translating hassle. And since I'm not Korean, but like Tablo.... English is the only way I can read these stories. XD

I'd bet I'm in the minority because Epik High seems to be steadily gaining in popularity, but I haven't been feeling the Epik love recently because I was pretty disappointed with Pieces. Lovescream's better, but Remapping was the bee's knees.

Yeah, I don't think anything can beat Remapping. Everything on that album was crazy good. I feel like Epik High's becoming less and less "pop" and more trance-instrumental. For now I still like them, but I would love it if they would get their Fan/Love Love Love groove back.

fizzle, I don't get what you mean by "pop". Epik high was always hip hop. I do agree. I don't feel the passion in their raps in pieces as much as I did before. Oh well, Epik High is still major love.

Pieces dipped into the late, late 90s futuresound of K-pop -- Eurodance, "epic/cheesecore" trance, trip hop grooves. Lovescream . . . well, Lovescream's the best damn Jay Chou album that Tablo has ever made. :D
Nowadays Epik High's muse shares the same unfinished sympathy of early garage and 2-step. I'm not sure if it's strictly hip hop anymore, but it's worth seeing how high as the sky, wide as the earth their muse takes them.
