Swiss miss Go Ara
by javabeans
Ara (who has for whatever reason dropped her last name, Go, professionally) was appointed a “Swiss Friends” goodwill cultural ambassador (i.e., promo rep) on August 18 at the Swiss embassy in Seoul.
She was greeted by Swiss ambassador Christian Hauswirth (who’s working the skeevy eye in one of the pics below, yeah?). Plus, at the ceremony, the article informs us, Ara partook of a “wonderful cowbell performance.” (HA.) Oh, how that just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?
Previous Swiss Friends have included Jang Nara, Choi Su-jong and wife Ha Hee-ra, Kim Tae-hee and brother Lee Wan, and Jo Han-sun.

Supposedly the reason she dropped her last name is because Lee Soo Man thought Go Ara (or Ko Ara) sounded too much like Koala. He said something along the lines of expecting her to become a big star outside of Korea (Asia??) and said it wasn't conducive to have a name that would ultimately sound like or come off sounding like Koala to foreign ears/tongues. *rolls eyes*

I like her full name. Short and simple. And anyone who has a brain would know no person would be named "Koala" (unless he or she is a celeb's child, but that's a different story), especially a Korean one who wouldn't know what a Koala is let alone named that.
Also, wouldn't foreign (english speaking people) switch her name to Ara Ko anyway?
Anyway...."wonderful cowbell performance"...What is that exactly?

mare, I think she meant that..okay, Korean is a different language than english (lol. sorry for pointing out the obvious there.) so while Koreans would know what a koala WAS, they'd have a different word for "koala."

Um...Yeah....Mare....that's what I mean. Koreans speak...Korean...not...English. Koala is an english name for an animal.

Not to derail this conversation (then again, why not?), the Korean word for koala is "ko-a-la."
The reason for dropping her last name is still stupid, though. :)

Seriously? That's the reason for her change of name?? Wow, she must really value Lee Soo Man's opinions is she's actually going to all-out change her name like that. I prefer her former name... Ara sounds like Madonna or Cher...

Oh, oops then. I don't know Korean, but I thought that the name would've changed for the animal.
The reason is still...stupid.
