Waving both his hair and the conductor’s wand
by javabeans
Kim Myung-min unveils his new curly-top hairstyle for his upcoming role as an orchestra conductor in Beethoven Virus. The classical-music-themed drama also stars Lee Jia as a violinist and Jang Geun-seok as a trumpet player; not loving the casting, but Kim Myung-min will blow them out of the water anyway.
The drama starts filming July 14 and is scheduled to air its first episode on MBC on September 3.

Weird casting. I like Kim Myung Min though so I'll be looking forward to this.

teehee, with that weave all he needs is a flapper dress, long thin cig, & a glass of martini!

The casting is rather bleh. Kim Myung Min is always awesome though. I don't really like the hair, but maybe it'll grow on me.

whats with the stereotype that conductors must have wavy/long-ish hair?! interesting casting but i'm not sure if the drama will be interesting enough.

*sigh* I can't watch this, not for my mild love for dorama's nodame. If they are doing a manga AND jdorama adaptation, should they stretch it so far as with the casting ( AND the looks...)

I'm not digging it at all. I like him with the normal cut. And second the point: why the conductor gotta have long hair huh?
Reminder to self: Go back and watch White Tower.

I am looking forward to this one, I love classical music. Nodame Cantible was such an awesome show (my first and only jdrama so far) so if they're any way the same, I can't wait for this one :)

They ruined his handsome face with the curl coif.
And Lee Jia/Jang Geun Seok better bring out the dignity in those instruments. Or I'll despise them forever.

This isn't a Nodame remake! The only thing they have in common is classical music. Can you really see KMM as Chiaki-sempai? That's really odd. I think it's probably a more serious drama, which I hope.

Lee Jia as a violinist is imaginable, but Jang Geun-seok as a trumpet player? Are they serious?!

I'm now worried about the budgeting for the show. For me, the big draw isn't just the cast, but that I'm itching to see what Lee Jae Gyu does with portraying classical music performance and especially the orchestra pit. 5.1 sound. Stylish My Sassy Girl-style 360 shots. Maybe something with slow motion that we haven't really seen. I don't want to be cheated out of a LJG filmic experience if they can't afford it.
But yeah, Kyung Min is one hair application away from having a jeri curl. Beethoven gone Earth Wind and Fire? I love it. You got to let your soul glow! :D
E is a good fit for Nodame; I'd be surprised if she doesn't already have some kind of musical background (a Korean American who studied cello or violin or piano? Wow never heard of that! *cough* ) Not sure how I feel about Jang Geun Seok playing Eita's (who is wonderful in a bunch of Japanese shows this year) role, but I would love it they deliberately played the "JGS looks just like . . . " card and remake JGS's character to be a dead ringer for Jo In Sung in The Classic.

I think Nodame is an obvious comparison, but it's worth nothing that Beethoven Virus is NOT a remake, as Anne has pointed out. Just in case the comparisons confuse some people into thinking this is a Korean Nodame.

I thought from the first press releases, they had originally promoted BV as being a Nodame remake. Lead character was supposed to be gifted, but very messy and scatterbrained . . and that is exactly like Nodame.
Details of back story thus far seem to be very unique in its own right now.

From what I've read, they usually mention Nodame as a point of comparison, i.e., "Beethoven Virus, like the Japanese drama Nodame Cantabile, is set in the world of classical music..." But not that it was a direct remake. If you find otherwise, please point me in the right direction!
