Wow, it’s the last weekend before Christmas already? I’m so not the holiday-festivities type. Do you guys “do” the holidays or is it just another day off from school/work for you?
My friend asked today if my family did Christmas trees and gave me an unintentional pitying look when I said I hadn’t had one in at least a decade. Little did she know *I* was giving her a pitying look in return, my inside voice saying, “Honey, YOU’RE the one who just paid good money to cut down a thorny-bristled stump, dragged the log home, set up the constantly shedding tree to proudly display in the middle of your living space, decorated it with fire hazards, only to take it down at the end of the week, leaving behind a mound of pine needles and sap and a lingering medicinal smell in your apartment, and you feel sorry for ME?”
Like I said, not really keen on the holidays. It’s not out of dislike, just laziness. Bah humbug.
SONG OF THE DAY
Wham – “Last Christmas.” OMG I love Wham. They’re so unbelievably cheesy. Unironically, unabashedly, in-your-face cheesy. They remind me of my childhood; I used to get hooked on this song every year when inevitably the radio waves blasted a full month of bland — and yet aggravating — forced Christmas jolliness, and this was the only song whose infectious cheer didn’t want to make me go rampaging to inflict damage upon a faux-winter landscape of gaudy decorations. I don’t listen to the radio anymore but I bet they’re playing this song on an unending loop somewhere. Sometimes I bust this sucker out in the middle of summer just because I can. [ zShare download ]

Firstly, 'Last Christmas' is the all time fav, it evokes so much memories for me, school dances, shoulder pads...very 'Music & Lyrics' (Have you seen this Hugh Grant movie? It's a hoot). 2ndly, I am sorry you feel this way about Christmas. I just want you to know that a fan of yours is thinking about you during this holiday...all the way in sunny/rainy Singapore. Thanks for entertaining me this whole year, especially with Coffee Prince ;). Have a blessed year ahead Dramabeans! Take care! Keep warm!

Haha..lazy humbug you are Beans..
My housemates and I actually bought a REAL tree to celebrate the festive season (yeah despite numerous attempts of persuading them to get a fake one cos it's cheaper...hehehe..). We were so into the mood..well cos partly all of em' except me, aren't Christians and they looked forward to decorating..I've been doing it for the past 10 or 15 years? Do I get tired of it? Yeah...but still, it's tradition..and it's just kinda like something that you don't do and you will feel empty inside and you will start to itch..hehehe...

as people grow older, they become lazier.. guess that's true..
i used to put up christmas tree (the plastic ones, and the leaves made out of coloured thin paper), and some snow (cotton) to make it look nice... but since the person who puts it up is the person who take it down, i'm just too lazy to put it up anymore..
but christmas is still christmas.. if you want a fun christmas then you have to go out and get yourself involve (not the tree i mean ) ... this year i chose to layback, so can't complain thats its boring for me...

OMG, Wham! Where's George Michael these days anyway?
Christmas song? Does anyone remember Band Aid? I faintly remember seeing this in elementary school and thought that it was the coolest thing. Searched and found on Youtube. Check out Bono and Sting. Their hair, people.

i celebrate christmas. it's my favorite time of the year, but this year i'm very grumpy and "without christmas spirit" (as my mother accused me). we have no tree this year and i'm working the day before and after christmas, a fact that just sucks whatever feeling of christmas cheer i have. but oh dear, i'm typing on a work computer. i might get in trouble.... i wish.
a very merry Christmas to everyone. i should blast wham's "last christmas" through this computer's speakers. that should get me fired.

Wham was so good but if I hear this song in another store I will pull my hair out!
I am not a Christmas-y person either, especially since my mom passed on 12/18. I have a small 4 and a half foot tree that's only decorated now because my cousin who is visiting put it together. He'd better take it down before he goes back to school! haha
The best part of the holidays however is watching Snoopy and the gang dance it out on TV.
Happy Holidays everyone!

I'm glad I am not the only one not into the whole Holiday over-hype. My idea of a great Christmas day is sleeping till noon, staying in my pajamas all day watching cheesy movies, or reading books. Hanging out with the family is okay, as long as I can stay in my pajamas. My biggest peeve is presents, if you get one person a present, then that means everyone should get one....do I look like a Christmas money tree?

Haha. Just like me. I have never had an intention to pull a tree back home, decorate it and pull it down by the end of the week. Too much trouble. But this Christmas, my new suitmate is kind enough to set up a Christmas tree for us (a plastic one, less trouble but still), it's kinda nice and warm when you come home late at night, seeing the tree shining in the living room ^_^.

The older I get, the less it feels like Christmas is coming or real or whatever. I thought that getting a Christmas tree would bring the feeling... I thought Christmas shopping would bring the feeling... I thought wrapping presents would bring the feeling... It just doesn't feel like Christmas! I guess it doesn't help that it's like 65 F out and the windows are open. When you live in Florida and have a season and a half (summer and two-steps-away-from-summer), it's harder to take in the coming of winter holidays haha.

If it weren't for my nieces and nephews, I probably wouldn't even bother with the gift giving thing because I dislike the commercialism of Christmas and try to stay as far away from the crowds as possible. (I do like the boxing day sales though). I've also gotten very lazy over the years and no longer bother with bringing out the mini fake tree because I usually work on Christmas day and it's not a big deal for me. I think it would be different if I had my own family because it can be a time of magic and wonder for the little ones. Anyways, I try to focus on the real spirit of the season and wish everyone a merry christmas and healthy new year.

Oh, "Last Christmas"
That brings back so many memories - similar to yours, javabeans. LOL!
We don't really do anything for Christmas, either, mostly out of laziness, too. Christmas is really for the children, but since we don't have any, all we have to do is send a few presents to the nephews and nieces.
TLC recently aired a show about people and their CRAZY Christmas decorations, though I can't remember what it was called. It was hilarious! I highly recommend watching it for the mock/snark/laugh-factor. There are some really nutty people who take the holidays way too far.
I'll leave you with the first line of the altered lyrics to a song my husband, the scrooge, was singing the other day:
"It's the most (take out Wonderful & replace with..) sh**-y-est time of the year..." :P

I figure everyone else (except you) will have a tree, so I don't need to get one. Instead, I happily pop by with a bottle of wine and enjoy the holiday festivities with others without personally aiding in the (not so) slow destruction of our planet, both by chopping down poor trees or buying fake, plastic trees.
Not to say that I'm the most green person in the world.
Back on topic: I love Wham, too. I should try to dig up my one and only Christmas CD. Which, ironically, was given to me by my Grinch friend.

I do all my Christmas shopping in late October/early November. And, I put up my fake tree ten to five days before Christmas. The truth is, I like getting together with my sisters, parents, and grandmother, for that one day. But, I'm so not interested in putting up lights or dealing with the crowds in the store.
For a time of year that's supposed to be about giving and being kind to your fellow man - well, I find that Christmas tends to bring out the worst in people. So, for the most part I try to avoid it.

I don't think It Started With a Kiss will be something you'll like, Sarah. The humour is almost farcial at times and they take every opportunity with the character's personality to create a funny situation. It gets rather tiring to watch in the end.
Every time I turn on Radiohead, I start feeling so down but I can't stop listening at the same time. I saw the first episode of It Started With a Kiss 2 and I skimmed most of it, I can't stand characters like the main one.
I watched Capital Scandal recently. Kang Ji Hwan

I can't finish first episode of "Bad Love". I don't think someone like Dramabeans should try ISWAK either. It's super cheesy (more likely for teenagers). Since you are so into Korean dramas, I am afraid of how you will react to Taiwanese dramas. I watched few episodes because I was bored as hell.

Oh oh..K-drama lovers..:P
I like ISWAK for the cheesiness. Sometimes I feel I need a drama to be laughed at, as silly as that, and ISWAK with its ridiculous story ( but with the couple's sparkling chemistry, IMO ) hasn't failed to amuse me..
But, somehow I think you won't like it Javabeans..
I also get tired w/ Taiwanese dramas' formula, that's why lately I watched more K-dramas.
Fake tree heh? I never had a real Christmas tree, since it's expensive.
What I love for Christmas is also the days off! lol. I should say that Christmas supposed to be the time you remember how Jesus Christ was born to save us...but still the holidays are I've been waiting for!
I'm currently digging my dramas collections since I haven't found the new drama which hooked me..and now I'm watching "Fashion 70's". Love Joo Jin Moo ( again! ) :P

Just finished decorating my 3-foot tall ornamental plant. Has flashing Christmas lights and an angel on the top and all! Just have to be very careful about the ornaments though to make sure they aren't too heavy. Haven't used a real tree in over 20 years and this suits us fine!
Groaned all the way through the first 2 episodes of Bad Love. Come on, scriptwriters! How many drama cliches can you cram into 2 episodes?! Obviously the answer is - not enough! But, despite all the groaning, I'm hooked! Have no idea if it will get better but I'm going to be hanging around to find out. Oh, I'm such a sucker for sappy dramas...

Taiwanese dramas on the whole are cheesy and 'slapsticky' (Japanese too) but I have to tell you I lurvvvvvve 'It started with a kiss' because it followed the Japanese manga storyline to a T. 'Meteor Garden' was so successful (and also for F4) because they followed the Japanese manga storyline. But the sequel totally flopped 'cos they veered off from the manga and went back to the melodramatic Taiwanese style. I am keeping my fingers crossed for ISWAK 2 and hope they stick to the original manga story. Btw, PULLY, I am a mother of 2 and I am still a sucker for romance in Taiwanese or Kdrama. Try reading the original manga of the drama produced, sometimes it enhanced the enjoyment. Just like Dramabeans writeup of the Coffee Prince book. It was truly enjoyable to read the book form.

I have a fake 7 feet spruce which I absolutely love but I was too lazy to put it up. Did it couple of time since I got it but since I got to take it down a couple of weeks later, I gave up the whole idea. Well Christmas will still be Christmas for me with or without a tree. Its the company I keep and since last week, the celebration is going on ... too much food :D
In my opinion, the spirit of Christmas is in the heart. It is not the gifts but the thoughts that count and I guess, being hopelessly romantic, Christmas is about being with people we love ... I am just glad to spend my Christmases with my husband and my family.
Javabeans, I would invite you for Christmas dinner if I could. I would like to wish you a BLESSED CHRISTMAS and a BLESSED NEW YEAR. And to all, have a wonderful holiday with your loved ones.
Honestly I am not a TWDrama fan either but I love ISWAK 2 - TKA. I find the acting was good in the ISWAK and they got better in ISWAK 2. One thing I dislike about TWDrama is their slapstick and if you are not a Taiwanese or a Chinese, one might just got lost in the joke of the day. I have finshed watching Romantic Princess and I might just say, don't bother watching it. At the end of the day, I felt it just wasted my time. Currently following Sweet Relationship and Bull Fighting. Some episodes, they are just a drag but some ... you just couldn't wait for more but well ... that's how TWDrama usually is. I am just hoping things would get better in Sweet Relationship but we'll see. Sometime they just fall flat and never recover. As for Bull Fighting, it is going pretty well so far. I hope that ISWAK 2 will be able to keep the momentum throughout the 28 episodes. If they keep closely to the original manga, I guess they'll make it. Just can't wait to see how Director Winnie will end this for the manga, there's no ending, the author died before she could finish it.
Nothing much to watch on the KDrama side. Started with Insoon Is Pretty, not really a wow factor for me. Love Evasive Inquiry Agency. Find it funny and refreshing.

WHAM!! my sister and I were karaoke-ing to "Last Christmas" yesterday! it's a Christmas tradition. : )
And my family does celebrate Christmas even though we're Buddhist... most of us. We usually have a HUGE dinner (kinda like Thanksgiving) and we do Secret Santa, play family games, and watch a little holiday program by the kids. It's pretty fun. :D

Right on Beans.. Bad Love IS cheesy, and it will not stop until the very last ep I think..hehehe..(me watching mainly for KSW..hehehe.. the story's bleh for me..)
I don't think you will like TW dramas Beans.. cos IMHO, TW dramas generally lack quality in all aspects (including acting, direction, chemistry and all the others) compared to Kdramas. I tried to watch Ep 1 of ISWAK 2...gosh, the first 10 mins already got me sleepy...it was SO boring. But of course, it's only my opinion as I didn't finish ISWAK 1 (did you watch that Beans? Ariel, the female lead really pissed me off because of her so called stupidy...arhhhh). Some might not agree with me, but I thought Prince Turn Into a Frog was the best TW drama ever made. If you have the time chinggu, check it out. It really pars up to Korean drama...
I thought you loved Kang Ji Hwan chinggu...come on, watch Capital Scandal. It's a MUST MUST watch..hehehhee...I'm pestering you hehehe..

i hope the strike ends soon, cuz reality tv is just overtaking... i don't dislike reality tv, but if i have to choose , its pretty clear to me what i'll be watching...

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
I love Wham's last christmas its like a song that never gets out of your head, last song syndrome type of thing.. I have recently watched a jdorama with that title and song going over and over again, it wasn't too bad, not to rave much about either.. I did promised myself to get into the spirit of things I will see it again.
Christmas is also for trees! I also have a fake spruce up about 5 feet tall that I have since I moved here in England, I cherish it a lot, it brings out memories & friends at some point in my life, it seems like each year I accumulate different decorations, the best memory i have was this year when I agreed to my husband wanted to put up fibre optic lights on the tree, that brought tears in his eyes.. that was something to tell our family for years to come. I'm really glad I had that fake tree.. otherwise I'll have a problem throwing out fresh ones ( my garden is tiny,, no place to plant it back)
I grew up where we never have real trees, the first one I remembered was my dad did by himself made out of strings with the nativity scene made of cardboard in the middle, the strings were held by lots f tiny nails on a rounded piece of wood, with a thin stick in the middle, it was about 3 ft tall. My brother and I used to put cotton on top of it thinking it was like snow, while mom tie ribbons around sweets to hang on the tree on christmas eve and we can all have it one by one until christmas morning.. Santa claus was a figure until I was six when I saw my mom wrapping up my presents.
We haven't got children of our own, however, for us adults it always nice to impart to younger ones the magic until we can really, that makes it really special.. I still did tons of shopping for my god children and friends' kids..and unexpectedly it did really made me happy.
I am sure everyone have fond stories to tell, nevermind being a scrooge...that's just the way it is. One cannot force others to be happy as they are, and there's no such thing as happily ever after.. there will always be rocks to stumble upon.
That's why life is fun! I'ts never a monotony.
Christmas comes and goes , just like how a day goes, how we spend it defines it.. what do you think?
Happy Holidays....

PixieJewel, Romatic Princess erghhhhh it was terrible. Wu Chun really can't act despite how pretty he is. I'm not ever going to attempt watching the other ones.
I think the only Taiwanese drama I actually took seriously (more so than the others) was Corner With Love. At least the main leads could act. Taiwanese dramas, well the idol ones, have always looked like they've been made with low production values which relegates them to a lower standard instantly. Then there's Taiwan's obsession with its stars and having every popular Sunday night drama starring a boyband member that will have girls flocking to watch. A LOT will have to change for Taiwanese dramas to reach the calibre closer to Korea's in my opinion.
I second ripgal's comment, watch Capital Scandal if you love Kang Ji Hwan!

I hope too CLOVER. TWDrama tend to do that. Romantic Princess was interesting in the beginning until Ep7 or 8 and then it fall flat all the way. Sweet Relationship is getting abit draggy now ... I just hated it when we all know the boy likes the girl and vice versa and they still not together. Take Sweet Relationship for instance, its EP14 and the two main characters Bai Hui and Zhi Tian who obviously likes each other still not confessing their feeling for each other and looking at the preview of EP15, still no sign of that happening and the character Megan Lai's playing is up to no good agan. I'm sure this girl can get away with murder in this show ...
I like the preview for Bull Fighting EP6 so I am really looking forward for it tonight. I just love ISWAK 2 and been waiting for the sequel like ages. HAPPY WATCHING CLOVER.

Don't even get me started on Taiwanese Dramas. It's always the same dang characters poor, plucky innocent yet dumb-as-bricks, rich, sexy hard-as-stone dude. Its like the entire industry watched Clueless and Cinderella and figured that was all they needed as templates. Don't even get me started on camera work, editing and directing. I wrote a near-treatise on how I couldn't watch them anymore, and why. ISWAK and Itazura na Kiss (Jdrama version) are pretty much the same: really annoying. The lead female character definitely did not have 2 brain cells to rub together, and you sort of keep hoping that somehow that instinct kicks in, but much to your dismay, the idiocy keeps right on coming to the bitter end. It starts of as endearing, but after your third or so drama one's like, "wt_ is up with these shows?".
Anyways xmas. Not a particularly big fan of the holidays. Commercial, cold, and generally dark for most of the day, really doesn't strike me as fun. It's a pain in the butt to put up trees, decorate, wrap gifts for ungrateful souls, cook a feast and clean all for an arbitrary day picked by someone back in the sands of time. I am with you!
As an aside, looking @ Remapping the Human Soul's 2nd CD, Tablo is listed as composer for all the tracks (which has ALL my fave songs from the 2 disc album including Fan, Girl Rock, Love Love Love). That might have been his testing the waters, so to speak, before going all out. I always wondered why they bothered with releasing a double album. I'm guessing it allowed Tablo a certain security. The tone is more Clazziquai-esque (lame description I know, but..) and less hip hop. What do you think?

i feel growing up the Christmas isnt as it was before. i guess u celebrate it in a different way. but still, i guess i grew fond of some traditions. it's also most of the only to see other family and friends, plus yes i get a break... so its fun in that way.
i like the tree thing though. i like making it pretty hahahha we got a fake one though. (no pine trees growing here) happy holidays sarah!
i agree, i dont think sarah would like ISWAK at all. i like it though, it was funny and the story how it rounded out was cute. though, yes i can agree many will find the lead character annoying to heck. so far though, i can say the first one was way better hahahha
sweet relationship is nice in a way. but i feel the draggyness so..
i only love the food part of it. hahahha i hate megan lai's character so much.
bull fighting i like. the chemistry of mike and hebe, plus lee wei! hehhe
the story is interesting too. romantic princess was nice till like midway then it went blah, the end was blah too.
bad love.. yes cheesy.. i cant resist watching coz of KSW's charms though. hhahaha he's too cute. even if the story is ehhh.. i dont like it. dang it. but of course the KSW contigent wont always agree.
thus agreeing with ripgal, Capital Scandal (kang ji hwan!!) and Prince turned Frog (taiwanese, MingEn!!) hehhehe must watch! ^^

I agree with you merriwether. TWDrama still have along way to go compare with KDrama. There's a lot of things I dislike about TWDrama but it didn't stop me from watching them, though I do get disappointed a lot like in Romantic Princess. I am clueless in The Rose and I sure didn't like My Lucky Star (drop it like a hot potato). I watched some HKDrama also. I have no particular reason for watching both TWDrama or HKDrama, I am game for a surprise or two or a laugh here and there. But I DO love KDrama. I just love the dressing (My Girl), accessories (Goong), plot (The Vineyard Man, Coffee Prince, Thank You), OST (The Vineyard Man, Goong, CP). I think SEA directors should show some improvement like the Koreans, not just in directing, editing, song lists etc but also actors to improve in their acting abilities. I know Wu Chun can't really act and I am not particularly swoon over his good look either.

LAST CHRISTMAS?! That song rocks!=D I celebrate Christmas and I have a fake tree. The hard work doesnt bother me since I'm not the one putting it up or taking it down. But this year's Christmas is a bit boring. I guess I'm not in the Christmas mood right now..maybe after I finish that song I'd be more Christmas-like.:P

In the series Evasive Investigative Agency - Ep. 4 -
at the end oof this eppie. the added bonus round is called:
The deleted scene which cannot be named..
007 picks up an R-rated comic book and is frustrated because the subsequent pages are torn out -
there's a great tune playing during that bonus scene -
do you have any idea what the song is - female singer - great voice -
never heard the song before...
any ideas?
it's an open thread question - I'm rewatching the series over the holidays -
i miss these guys!
thanks!

I heard a cover of "Last Christmas" yesterday on the radio (Los Angeles) and about flipped. The new version steals its soul, whatever slender plastic one it had--at least it *had* one in Wham!'s rendition.
