Park Jiyoon’s “Secret Garden”
by javabeans
I know I just posted about Park Jiyoon not long ago, but in the spirit of discussing artists with hidden talents, here’s another bit of news about the singer-actor.
It’s no secret that Park Jiyoon’s an amateur photographer; she hasn’t been very active in the acting or kpop arenas for a while; her last album (her sixth) was released in 2003, and she’s had a few low-key acting roles since then.
Perhaps her time was being put to better use — because she may be a decent kpop entertainer (her voice is wispy-weak though distinctive, but her songs are catchy), but it’s my opinion that her artistic sense is much more suited to her newer photographic pursuits. Now, she’s about to release a book — a photoessay collection — titled Park Jiyoon’s Secret Garden, but she’s pre-empted release by posting up some samplings online first.

A secret garden…
…is a mysterious book containing 99 of Jiyoon’s secret stories. It has been a long while since my photographs and words have been shown to you all, and it makes my heart flutter in excitement.
비밀정원이란
지윤이의 99가지 비밀 이야기가 담겨 있는 신비로운 책이랍니다.
오랜만에 제 사진들과 글로 여러분들을 만나게 되어 가슴이 너무 설레여요.
Not all her photos are labeled on the site — I’m just guessing, but I think they probably will come accompanied with a story or some words in her book. For instance, #95:
95. Flow
The flow of time
is said to purge the past.
Certainly, the me of the present
isn’t the complete, intact me of the past
but has been purged
and become another, different me.95. 흐름
시간의 흐름은
과거를 정화시켜준다고 했다.
분명 지금의 나는
예전의 온전한 내가 아니라
정화 되어 버린
또 다른 내가 되어 있는 것이다.

The online gallery contains some photos that won’t be included in the book, which will be published on the 16th. If you’re in the Seoul area, her work will be available for viewing at ART’N DREAM in the Kangnam district from the 16th through 21st.

Either she had some help or she's really good at setting up a camera on a tripod....because that running shot is impressive if she did it herself.
The red umbrella is nice too.

She could have set a timer and probably done it several times because second and third shots have different distance from camera and angle cutting off her head.
I'm told numerous times that you're not suppose to cut off people's head from the frame.

hm actually i think she had the picture with her head cut off on purpose... to focus on her legs that are running.
anyways i like the first shot... i love how the bubbles are exactly where the clouds seem to end.. like it's an extension of them. makes you feel like you can really fly to the top of the sky on a bubble
and the last shot is nice too! i love how the electric lines and the asian umbrella kinda show a contrast of modern and traditional.

It's interesting that she takes quite a few self-portraits (based on the few shown in this post, i couldn't get into her collection on-line). You're pretty much limited on what you can do with a stationary camera. There's quite a bit more technical skills that one can experiment when one is behind the camera as opposed to in front of it (IMHO as an amateur photographer). But yeah definitely, nice pix. I'm always amazed at how much the pictures reflect the psyche and personalities of their photographer. And in this case, she looks like a fun, lovely and talented girl.

I really like the poem she wrote. Looks like she spent a lot of time reflecting. Her book looks really good and in the pics, she looks like she prolly had a great time making it!
