Snowy hillsides and fateful timing in melodrama Born Again teaser
by tineybeanie
Love unfolds amidst a winter wonderland in the recently released Born Again teaser. This upcoming mystery melodrama features a passionate love triangle between Jin Se-yeon (Selection: War Between Women) and two men, played by Jang Ki-yong (Search Query: WWW) and Lee Soo-hyuk (The Man Living in Our House). Their fated relationship begins in the 1980s and endures through time and death, as the three are reincarnated in the present-day.
In the past, Jin Se-yeon is a terminally-ill bookshop owner, Jang Ki-yong is a black (or is it white) sheep in an evil family, and Lee Soo-hyuk is an innocent-hearted police investigator. In the present-day, Jin Se-yeon is a human remains archaeologist, Jang Ki-yong is an elite medical student, and Lee Soo-hyuk is a prosecutor that believed in hereditary criminality.
In the teaser, a 1980’s Jang Ki-yong trudges up a snowy hillside, following the footsteps of someone that came before him. Jang Ki-yong narrates: “Everyone has a fated time. When the fated time comes…” We see in a moment that Jin Se-yeon is the owner of the footprints. She smiles brightly at the new arrival, and her voiceover continues Jang Ki-yong’s thoughts: “…someone finds me…”
The scene cuts to present-day Jang Ki-yong, the medical student, outside a store, noticing the snow falling. Then, prosecutor Lee Soo-hyuk scowls and turns around, and his voiceover finishes the narration: “…and I find that someone.” The last cut shows 1980s Jin Se-yeon and Jang Ki-yong facing each other, surrounded by snow-covered evergreens.
KBS Monday-Tuesday drama Born Again, directed by Jin Hyung-wook and written by Jung Soo-mi, will begin airing on April 20.

I think I may have to watch this just to see what Jin Se Yeon does with a “passionate love affair”. Yes, I’m a glutton for punishment.

If they already reincarnated in 2020, they had to die pretty young in 1980's.

I'm just wondering why all these snowy love stories are now turning up in spring when I needed them in Dec/Jan/Feb

I totally agree with you. I was thinking like oh they are having the winter season in March (which I also thought was a bit strange.) But I'd never know since it's always sunny in my country.

I have a feeling this will be more common as production companies adhere to the new labor laws and thus have to start filming earlier before the premiere dates now. Dramas starting now probably began filming in December!
This is a good thing.

Indeed, someting i think it's quite good and hope more and more do it and film like 10eps before a drama starts...Also,i think it has also with the climate change,it's just not how it used to be,in my country we had all 4 seasons and December was all snowy winter and March pretty Spring, now we have a day 20 degree and the next 7 degree with snow pouring,it's sad actually, guess that's why somehow it shifted into dramaland as well...

Dear Jang Ki Yong, I love you but I’m going for to watch for the snow! Sad love stories aren’t sad if they aren’t set in winter!

At least we will be delivered visuals by out two main leads...From this info bits sounds like Jang Ki Young is actually the lead unlike the first reports were Lee Soo Hyuk was deemed as such with the first turned villian killer...When they mentioned her profesion i actually believed she would find the remains of one of them from the past jajja..Truly wish this story is good because if done right it can be a blast!I'm kinda gonna omit Jin Se Yeon as i find her always bland but we'll see after...

I find Jin Se-yeon and Jang Ki-yong bland (well, JKY has potential, but his last two roles really sucked).

I find JKY's role in Search WWW quite good. Kill It is a bit weird. Are we watching the same dramas?

I think so? I thought he was mediocre in both Search: WWW and Kill It. The mediocrity was more apparent in Search: WWW because one could plausibly attribute his flat acting in Kill It to the car wreck writing. In Search, it always felt like his character was missing something; never felt real and, indeed, the character was weirdly disjointed (there was bubbly hot young dude vs melancholy, anxious guy, and never did the twain meet).

I thought he was mediocre in both his last projects as well. However in both those cases the parts were badly written and he did well in Come and Hug Me and My Ahjussi and was a scream in The Boy Next Door.
Maybe this will be different idk but the stills certainly show him with his patented 'just dropped something in my nappy' look.

@leetennant, agreed that his projects before the last two were good (I haven't watched My Ahjussi, but he was great in Come and Hug Me, The Boy Next Door (credits to you for linking that series to me!), and Go Back Spouses. However, I do think the trailer is not encouraging, as you note, and I tend not to give actors more than two bites at the apple (in the sense that, if an actor has burned me twice, I will not specifically watch a drama for that actor). Nothing else in this drama is appealing (concept looks dreadful) and I don't like the other two actors either, so JKY is not enough to get me to watch this one.

JKY has potential to be better, but I guess he wants to challenge himself by acting as "serial killer" again? Idk.
I'm still baffled as to why he end up picking this type of drama b/c I don't see how this drama is any better or different than Kill It role. In addition, I don't think this drama is gonna get a good rating at all.
It's too melo and slow.

@leetennant
My thoughts exactly. I thought he was not good in Kill It. His acting sufficed in WWW, but then again, it's a small role, different from Kill It role.

ok. Guess I like Search WWW for the female leads. JKY can act but I agree with both of you that the writing of his roles could be bad. I don't have any faith in this female lead though. Never a fan of melodramas. I will wait for reviews first. JKY was great in MA even though his role was small but he was really good there.

Zero interest in this drama. All of three of the mains actors are pretty bleh. I hate reincarnation plots and badly-done melos (i.e. most melos) are painful to watch.

I'm interested.
But please if the female lead is a sitting goose in the middle of the plot while everyone else gets to do and be interesting things...I'll still watch most likely but I will be VERY annoyed.
