Fantasy drama Mystic Pop-up Bar releases new teaser
by tineybeanie
Yook Sung-jae (The Lonely Shining Goblin), Hwang Jung-eum (Handsome Guy and Jung-eum), and Choi Won-young (Hyena, Doctor Prisoner) feature in the recently released teaser for webtoon-based drama, Mystic Pop-up Bar (previously known as Two Tops Pocha). At this mysterious late-night pocha (food cart), a cantankerous auntie and an innocent part-timer help customers relieve their burdens and heal mentally by going into their dreams.
In the teaser, part-time customer service rep Yook Sung-jae walks down the street with a heavy weariness. In narration, Hwang Jung-eum clucks at his bloodshot eyes, dark circles and sallow skin. Yook Sung-jae’s feet lead him to an alluring pocha where he finds delicious anju (food you eat with alcohol) and liquor. At the end of this sequence, she decides on Yook Sung-jae: “Today, I choose you.”
We see that Hwang Jung-eum is the auntie who runs the pocha. Following her pronouncement, the teaser switches to show a Joseon-era woman dressed in white in front of a noble audience. We quickly flash back to a drunk Yook Sung-jae, and then Hwang Jung-eum begins to explain the philosophy of her pocha to a lady in the middle of a garage.
Her pocha is called Two Tops Pocha. In a world where people are divided into superior and inferior, top and bottom, her pocha is a place where everyone is a top. Of course, when everyone is a top, there’s no need for the condescension and power-tripping so often found elsewhere.
Copy flashes onscreen, saying: “To all of humanity, come to our pocha, where owners and customers are both tops. A condescension-free zone.” Choi Won-young features in a couple interspersed clips with Hwang Jung-eum and Yook-Sung-jae, to round out the trio as a suppressed team leader who is always sent on errands and useless tasks.
Yook Sung-jae is mobbed by angry ajummas at his job, and ends up hiding behind a bed frame. Two figures dressed in black fight and flip over, and Yook Sung-jae sends a wink toward camera. The teaser ends with Hwang Jung-eum offering: “Want a drink with me?”
JTBC Wednesday-Thursday drama Mystic Pop-up Bar, directed by Jeon Chang-geun (The Package), will begin on May 20.

i have no idea how i feel about hwang jung eum and i don't know what happened to her face but i have managed to watch all her dramas since 2016 and i dont know why or how? sometimes looking at her and hearing her voice is actually unbearable and other times i'm mesmerized. i just know somehow i'll end up watching this lmao so at least it looks interesting and the webtoon sounds cool. sungjae is like 9 years old so i'm assuming there's no romance!

Her voice, when she speaks, doesn't bother me. But oh boy, when she does her screeching I want to run away with my hands over my ears. I didn't hear any yelling or screeching in the preview, so maybe we'll be safe. (I'm not counting on it)

She’s a perfectly serviceable actress when not in a screeching role. I hope this is one of them.

I think it's not even the role, it's the director. Some let (or make?) her run wild, and others channel that energy into a better performance.

Lost scary amount of weight+jaw reconstruction+facelift....none of which was required IMO...that said her performance completely depends on her director....I like it when she reigns it in but this looks like it will have a bit of free form comedy from her...that said....this looks fun.

What wrong with her face and duck lips? She was so pretty before, I hope it’s just the makeup. I hope this is a better drama than the last one. I feel she’s has lost some of her appeal. Will watch for sure.

I think she changed something right? The second to the last screencap and the side view one almost looked like a different person. Her previous look was definitely one that made her recognizable.

lol. I was so distracted by her duck lips in she was pretty and never finished it. Will never watch a drama of hers. This drama sounds fun so too bad for me. And Choi Won-young is one of my faves.

I'm definitely watching this one! I'm so happy Sungjae lands a leading role before he goes off to the army! And I've always like Hwang Jung Eum...since her High Kick days, I've managed to watch 9 out of 10 of her dramas.

Wow, that's a lot! I have seen her only in Kill me Heal me, where she was ok at the beginning and amazing at the end. I thought the plot was very twisted, but I still loved all the healing process, and also, hello, there was Ji Sung! 😍😍😍
Watched it twice! 😂

Have you seen Secret Love? Ji Sung - Hwang Jung Eum pairing too. It was amazing, to say the least.

I love the cover picture of Yook Sung-jae and am so tempted to use it for my profile picture... but maybe I should rather wait and see how the series turns out. Hmmmmm...

I have a strong love for Hwang jung Eum, I haven't the faintest what she did to her face, maybe fillers, but I will always watch if she is in something.
