Cat-human L falls in love with puppy-eyed Shin Ye-eun in KBS’s Welcome

Fantasy rom-com Welcome has released as second teaser. L (a.k.a. Kim Myung-soo Angel’s Last Mission: Love) plays a character who has the ability to transform from a cat who into a man. After he beings living with a puppy-like woman, played by Shin Ye-eun (That Psychometric Guy), he begins to fall in love with her.

The latest teaser opens with a fluffy white cat turning into L and staring directly at a soundly sleeping Shin Ye-eun. Copy reads “Why is it this person?” while we see multiple scenes of L and Shin Ye-eun spending time with each other.

L smiles warmly at Shin Ye-eun who is surprised to run into him near a snack cart. The teaser then shows a scene of L happily cooking dried filefish in Shin Ye-eun’s toaster (to her horror), and then the scene transitions to a supermarket. At the supermarket, Shin is horrified to find a giant live fish in their shopping cart and she returns the fish to the supermarket’s tanks while glaring at L. Back at home, the pair of them face each and Shin Ye-eun takes in L’s milk mustache and comments that he looks just like a cat.

In another time and place, Shin Ye-eun looks dejected and L is standing behind her in a suit. She’s taken aback when he says, “Go on a blind date with me.” We get a quick shot of the pair of them outside at night, with L backed up against a stone wall while Shin cuddles up against him muttering, “How warm.” On the screen, there’s copy that says, “A little more.”

We’re back indoors when L suddenly declares his feelings for Shin. At his declaration of love, Shin Ye-eun stops short. The next shot has the two walking in the sunshine together as a caption states, “Can’t we be together?” Shin Ye-eun happily swings on a swing set but the seat next to her has a white cat rather than human L. In voice-over we hear Shin ask, “What?” and L replies that he wants to be by her side…even if she doesn’t recognize him. We see an empty swing; then Shin Ye-eun and L stand opposite each other, smiling in front of the swing set.

KBS Wednesday-Thursday drama Welcome will begin airing on March 25.

Yep, my male cat would sit sulking in a corner while the female would be a total diva. She is beautiful, fluffy, and dumb as a rock, so imagine her something along the lines of the stereotypical Hollywood star.

I would like my brother’s cat though. Ginger cat with playful and friendly personality. Smart too. Yep, my type.

Do you mean L or the cat? If cat, the cat Bok-gil in Imaginary Cat was a good actress. If L, how was his acting in Angel's Last Mission: Love? I didn't watch, but I'm going to watch Welcome.

Confession: I used to make up a storyline in my head as a teenager with a cat transforming into a human and falling in love with his owner (although the latter part is blurry) with a Harry Potter-like vibe/background. Never thought to see something similar actually happening...

Thank you for the update, @tineybeanie. I've been keeping an ear to the ground for this show since first reading about it months ago. L did well as an angel in his last outing, and I can easily imagine him as a feline. Cdrama GUARDIAN had a very cute shape-shifting cat, so my expectations for L's kitty have been raised.

Please, Drama Gods, no serial killers, murderous chaebols, or muddled theology in this one, okay?

Show's name has changed a couple of times. Based on the premise so far, I cannot fathom the early working title, MAN WHO BAKES BREAD -- which sounds like a throwback to KING OF BAKING, KIM TAK-GOO. Oh, right. Cats "knead" their humans. Or something like that. Shades of mandoo maker Ko Nan-gil announcing "I have to knead dough" in SWEET STRANGER AND ME. ;-)

I am so ready for a fresh youth romance to balance out the current crops of murder mysteries/procedurals/melo, which unfortunately, I'm not in the mood for and thus have either dropped (The Game: Towards Zero, Memorist) or put off starting (Nobody Knows, Hospital Playlist, Hello Mama, I'll Find You On A Beautiful Day), although some of them have an excellent cast that I would have been delighted to come across in any drama.
