Premiere Watch: 9.9 Billion Won Woman
by stroopwafel
Time slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Broadcaster: KBS
Genre: Suspense
Episode count: 32 episodes (35 minute episodes)
Jo Yeo-jung headlines as a woman who’s known no happiness or peace during her life. She turned to marriage to escape an abusive family, but the man she married (played by Jung Woong-in) turned out to be abusive as well. Jo Yeo-jung is just barely making it through each day when something happens that feels like a miracle to her: she lands 9.9 billion won in cash (roughly $9 million). But that windfall may lead to the road to perdition as it sets into play something that goes far beyond her. Jo wasn’t alone when she came into the cash, she was with her frenemy Oh Nara’s playboy husband, Lee Ji-hoon and they become secret co-conspirators. Though she’s spent her life being trampled and abused, the cash motivates her to fight for both the money and a better life. Though details aren’t clear yet, Jo also encounters disgraced cop Kim Kang-woo at his very lowest point. As he hunts for the truth behind his beloved sibling’s murder, the questions quickly pile up. Will everyone’s path merge at a junction of murder and money? Will greed win out over conscience? Will this Kim Kang-woo role be able to make us forget about Item?

I'm with you - poor KKW was given such a poor character - his character was written too cartoonish. I could just picture him twirling his mustache.
At least he had the best villain ever in Story of a Man (Slingshot).
He can act it, so the question will be, how will they write it.

I guess I am one of 5 people that enjoyed Item. Was it the best drama, no, but it was not a trainwreck either.

kim kang woo can make a bad drama watchable for sure. i thought it was ok too. not the best but it held my attention (not to mention eyecandy of kang woo and joo ji hoon) if you don't like the characters they play, just go along for the scenery and the ride.

A reunion between Jo Yeo Jung and Kim Kang Woo! I remember enjoying the couple in Haeundae Lovers. They were such puppies in that drama and have been great at playing chilling characters as well.
I'm probably going to wait until the female lead gets that 9.9 billion won before I check it out.

Have to admit, I watched Haeundae Lovers probably at least 3 times...but that was when I was really into KKW and watched everything he'd done 2 or 3 times!

Maybe being a disgraced cop leads him to become scruffy mountain ahjussi? Uri husband did have a few years unaccounted for there...

KBS2: Does this mean Viki might get the rights? Or Netflix? Those are the only two resources I have to watch dramas on Roku. Unless OnDemandKorea has it and subs it (not likely). I'm really hungry to see these two again in a meaty, angsty drama.

They look so smoooth and hot here. Such a contrast from the silly posters of Haeundae Lovers. Which reminds me, I still have that on my to-watch list.

JYJ gave one of this year's best performances in Parasite. We probably can't expect anything like that in a KBS drama.

I watched the first episode for Jo Yeo-jung.
I am on the fence on this show. The back stories were filled in quickly, but I am not drawn to any of the characters.

I think the shaky camera work might just do me in. That always makes me nauseous. But I'll see if it continues in the 2nd episode.
