Name That Drama: What happened to the teddy bear?

Ready for another round of drama-sleuthing? Help out your fellow Beanies or use this form to send in your own questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. Today in “Things I Learned From Beanies”

I remember a scene where an entire group of influential people were poisoned at a restaurant room by a bunch of chemicals. The chemicals were in the food, tissues, water, dessert etc. The scene was quite gruesome and bloody, and they showed each person die. (It’s definitely not gonna help, but I found what the chemicals were from my dictionary searches – oleander, mercury, lead, and arsenic.)

  2. Missing: a boy and his bear

There’s another daily or weekend drama I remember vividly – a scene where a young boy chases after his teddy bear (or some other stuffed toy) and eventually out of a metro station, so his family were searching high and low for him. Unfortunately I forgot the title of this drama already, so I am wondering what the name of the drama is and if the boy is found, did he get back his teddy bear? It definitely aired between KBS1’s Yellow Handkerchief (2003) and Likable or Not (2007), which also had their runs in Singapore.

  3. Stocking up on skinship

Help! There are many dramas with the same part time job that I can’t find which contains this particular scene. I remember that Girl likes Guy but doesn’t want to admit it. Girl visits Guy at his job in a 24/7 mart to bicker with him. Girl keeps getting in Guy’s way so he restocks the shelves around Girl. Girl forgets what she’s saying because of the accidental not-hugs.

I’m sure the show aired this year and sure about the secret crush and half hugging. Maybe I have the roles reversed too if that helps. Thank you.

  4. Why does this sound very familiar?

Hi. I’m looking for a drama about a girl with a mean sister who gets trapped in a some kind of truck. A milk truck, I think. The sister tells her to wait for her in the truck. The girl falls asleep and wakes up when the truck is leaving. She hits her head and gets amnesia. The drama is not recent.

  5. Was it oleander? Mercury? Lead? Arsenic?

Not sure if this is a Korean movie or drama. The good guys ordered food for a witness they are protecting in their hideout. The witness dies of poisoning even if the food source is trusted by the cops. In a flashback, someone bumped into the original delivery guy to make him drop all the food. The bad guy dressed up as a deliveryman to give the poisoned order to the witness.

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

1. I somehow remember a similar scene from thriller crime drama. Does this crime involved a child? (Sadly I don't remember the title, though the color palette reminded me of Signal.)

4. It's definitely Rooftop Prince. The younger sister then grew up as the female lead

5. It reminds me of Healer when the Teacher died in the middle of interrogation. But I'm not sure the bad guy posed as the deliveryman.

The crime does involve children. Which is why the perpetrator was on a search-and-destroy mission.

3. This could be Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo except his work was moving boxes and the drama aired two years ago (😱)

4. Definitely Rooftop Prince. Ugh I hated that evil elder sister (played perfectly by Kim So Hyun).

I really feel sorry for the Teddy Bear.

Oh was it? These drama characters have too many part-time jobs to keep track of. 😆

It was a case related to main arc, somewhere in the middle from what I recall.

@chahaya,
The recipe for Joseon "death sentence poison" is in ep. 11. There are 7 ingredients:

1. arsenic
2. cinnabar [a red ore of mercury carved into jewelry; used in red ink for seals; vaporized by candle, whose wick can also contain lead]
3. raw gold powder (Edible gold is stabilized.)
4. aconitine (from monkshood, Aconitum)
5. lead
6. Arisaema, "cobra lily." North American species known as "jack-in-the-pulpit [member of Araceae family, which contains large needles of calcium oxalate in its tuber or corm, as does dumb cane, Dieffenbachia; cold extraction needed to prevent dissolution of spicules]
http://www.itmonline.org/articles/arisaema/arisaema.htm
7. oleander (In another [non-Korean] murder mystery, someone died after eating shish kebab grilled on oleander skewers.)

My inner sageuk nerd was thrilled to bits to learn the ingredients of Ye Olde Death Sentence Poison. ;-)

@hebang, @mary, @anothernicole,

Thank you! I used to garden, and have a lifelong interest in herbalism. A number of the plants I grew were toxic. I recognized a few on this list, which literally made me sit up and take note. ;-)

If you haven't watched GOD'S QUIZ: REBOOT, and are up for forensic pathology along with the story of how the medical examiner prodigy came to be, it's excellent. Kim Jae-won turns in a terrific performance, and Ryu Deok-hwan was the bee's knees. I first saw him in FAITH, and have been a fan ever since. I'd only seen the first season prior to this, but it was enough to help me understand the flashbacks (which were sufficient in themselves, but I appreciated knowing the beginning of the saga).

Great info! Now I can fully appreciate all the efforts that goes into each bowl forced down the throat of those unlucky palace maids and queens

I somehow feel 3. should be in Psychometric... but my memory is generally terrible 😆

Now I want to know why the teddy bear was trying to escape. Did it make it to freedom?

4. Rooftop Prince as everyone has already said.

5. I don't know, but you do have to be careful of those delivery people.

No, the teddy bear (or some other stuffed toy) was either snatched away or flew with the wind. That's what I could remember.

#1 is GOD'S QUIZ: REBOOT. The victims were richly deserving despicable baddies in high places who were bumped off with the ingredients used to concoct Ye Olde Joseon Bowl of Poison, any one of which would have been enough to kill someone. The components were added to different courses, so as the diners ate, they died of different causes. Some croaked from oleander, others from mercury, or oxalate spicules from various species of Arum (also found in the common house plant "dumb cane" Diffenbachia), and so on. Analysis of all the dishes revealed the historic poison. I've often wondered exactly what was used to make that dark brown coffee-like liquid. Now I know.

Kim Jae-won played the avenger, and Ryu Deok-hwan reprised his role as geeeeenius medical examiner Han Jin-woo.

#3 sounds like a moment at eighteen, she doesn't exactly have a crush on him at that point, but she is intrigued by him and gets rattled when he's rearranging the shelves behind her and ends up in a semi hug like you described
