Gong Myung offered KBS office drama Happy to Die
by girlfriday
I was thinking that it’d been a long time since I’d seen Gong Myung in dramaland, but I realized it was because I cut out of Revolutionary Love so early that I could only remember him being in Bride of the Water God 2017. He’s been offered KBS’s new workplace drama Happy to Die, which sounds like a healthy dose of wish fulfillment for beleaguered office grunts, described as a refreshing burst of cider thrown at the frustrations of real life. It’s based on an award-winning webtoon about the fantastical time-bending journey that turns a terrible boss into a decent human being. Because we all know it takes serious magic to make that happen.
Kang Ji-hwan (Children of a Lesser God) has been confirmed for the starring role as the boss everyone hates with a fiery passion and wishes an untimely death upon. They get their wish when the manager dies unexpectedly and then gets caught in some sort of time-loop where he keeps dying and being brought back to life. In the course of the time travel, he learns to stop being an abusive team leader and tyrant. I’m guessing that’s mostly due to the subordinate who keeps saving him from dying every day, which is the role that Baek Jin-hee (Let’s Eat 3) has been offered.
Gong Myung is up to play a marketing manager of the chicken company where all of our characters work. He turns heads in the office for his good looks but also his wackiness, and he’s the type to force his subordinates into games of chance to determine who goes on assignments. Nobody can complain about him though, because he’s the nephew of the company’s president. I can see Gong Myung playing a quirky, immature chaebol a la Lee Won-geun in Jugglers and having fun with it, so it seems like a good fit for the character.
Happy to Die will be helmed by PD Lee Eun-jin, who directed Trot Lovers and Sassy Go Go, and also worked on Chief Kim and Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho. It’s scheduled to follow The Ghost Detective on Wednesdays and Thursdays in late October.

I miss seeing Gong Myung. This show seems quirky enough to be interesting. I know nothing about the webtoon but if he accepts, hoping it will be a fun watch.

The premise seems very interesting. I haven't watched the works from either of the leads but I liked Gong Myung in BOTWG (I've only watched that drama of his). I think he fits the character well. Also 2018 may be the year of the 5urprise boys from what it seems.

I actually got confused for a second as I thought he was in jugglers with baek Jin hee but then realised that it was lee won geun whoops. And now the character sounds similar too. I’ve missed seeing him and hopefully this is a better role.

I really hope they don't butcher or water down the manhwa too much. Because the ranting and dry hysterical humour was amazing.

As someone who have read the original webcomic, I really thought he'll be the heroine's too-good-to-be-true crush. Here's hoping they don't deviate that much from the webtoon.

Hmm, seems they're changing up the characters a little. Who knows whether or not that'll be better.

I was just wondering what he was doing since I hadn’t heard anything about him about him in a while. Glad to hear he’s considering another project but I’m wondering when he’ll headline his own drama. Even if it’s the smaller networks. He has loads of talent, and I’m tired of seeing him as the second lead who never gets the girl.😞

Gong Myung's actually busy despite having no news about him for a while. he's been filming the movie 'Extreme Job' since late March and he'll be in a chuseok drama special 'Essence of Happiness'. He also guested in netflix variety show 'Busted' with fellow 5urprise members.

Same! I have been waiting for him to headline a drama because I am so tired of him not getting the girl every time! Someone put him and Yoon So Hee together in a drama stat!!

I really enjoyed Gong Myung in Individualist Oh Ji-Young, but both RL & BOTWG were just bad shows. Hoping this one will be a winner, the character sounds really fun and endearing.

I watched Revolutionary Love purely for Gong Myung and the misguided belief that he would end up with Joon. Ugh so misguided! And I thought he was supposed to star in a medical drama after that (Life?), whatever happened to that?
Baek Jin Hee in a KBS office drama with a mean boss, so soon after Jugglers? Was there no other actresses available? Same for Gong Myung playing the second lead office worker he did in Revolutionary Love again. That being said, I am a sucker for a time loop drama ala Groundhog Day (not Manhole, nooooo).
