KBS’s Jugglers courts Yoon Kyun-sang to become stoic boss

Hmmm… I can’t really imagine Yoon Kyun-sang (Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People) being a cold stick-in-the-mud after watching so many episodes of his cat-loving cuteness in Three Meals a Day, but he’s considering an offer to star in KBS’s new office drama Jugglers. According to his agency Popeye Entertainment, he’s reviewing the script, but it’s only one of many offers he’s received. Jugglers will tell the love story between a woman who “can do whatever she’s told” and a man who “does all his work himself.” She’ll be his secretary, and the title refers to her versatile role, where she has to wear multiple hats to juggle all the tasks at hand.

The woman is supposed to be actively passive; her core identity is tied to being a supporter, so she’s very willing to sacrifice herself for others. So I guess her personality is perfectly suited for her job as a secretary. Whereas, the man is completely shut down when it comes to relationships; he’s a brick wall-type boss, hard to read, and harder to please.

If he confirms, Yoon Kyun-sang will play the poker-faced stoic boss. He isn’t considerate of the people around him, and in fact, he’s pretty much coldly indifferent to everyone. However, with his tall height and a perfect body crafted into peak condition from years of boxing, he’s highly sought after by women. In terms of career, he’s not a genius, but he works hard at his job and has been promoted to a managerial position in the video business department.

PD Kim Jung-hyun, who directed the drama special In Search of Argenta, and new writer Jo Yong-hae are working together for this project. Well, at least it seems like the main relationship will be full of interesting imbalances like boss vs. secretary, and independent vs. passive personalities.

KBS’s Jugglers is scheduled to begin after upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama Witch’s Courtroom, in December.

the premise is interesting, kind of like James Norrington hired Miss Lemon. But I also find it incomprehensible like based on what did theyt make him this offer? Have they seen his morning hair in 3 meals? sometimes it looks like there is another cat sitting on his head. But well, maybe....

This made me laugh because this is the premise of every Chinese romance drama/novel. Where "Hard to please" is textbook jerk on a high horse, but YKS's puppy eyes are so endearing it's hard not to like him. And to avoid a doormat Candy falls entirely on a good execution of some great writing.

Kim So-yeon in Falling for Innocence is the closest good example to this description I can think of. Until she falls for her boss, that is.

Reading the character description I rather thought of Ha Suk Jin XD

But knowing YKS' versatility I'm sure he'll be great in this. Didn't he play a similar cold-guy/hard-to-please character in Doctors?

It seemed that that was what they were going for in the beginning but then didn't work out. He ended up being a cutie who gets his apartment crashed by other doctors every night.

This sounds really cute and I would take a workplace romance over a procedural only, and more yoon kyun sang is only better

I just fell asleep reading the synopsis. How more basic can you get? Passive self-sacrificing female, and emotionally constipated male. Talk about being stuck in gender roles too.

Right?! I hope he rejects it. When I read the synopsis on Soompi, his character was actually described as a "chauvinist" and the woman was described as one who totally supports the idea of being obedient. I gagged so much.

I'm with you there. After getting recognition for Rebel, I don't think this would be a good follow up.

He's quite cold as HaJiWon's bf back then.
I'm glad he's back this soon. Gonna see the updates. this typical plot ain't my taste anymore, but it worth to see YKS anyway.

I was thinking the same thing. So we'd end up with a beta male paper-pusher working for a cranky Ice Queen... I'm just not sure how much of an improvement that would be.

Didn't that happen in Ms Temper and Nam Jung-ki? I didn't watch that show, but I thought that was the premise.

Yes, the roles were reversed in Ms Temper. It's hard to get this kind of plot, maybe seeing a passive male lead is not something oppa fans would love, maybe!

Please, can the era of fluffy male leads be ushered in already?! This Mr Darcy archetype has been done to death.

I feel kind of subversive saying this, but I would rather see Yoon Kyun-sang's take on a no-holds-barred villain role. Or maybe a 24-karat antihero. Emotionally-stunted, inexpressive porcupine wearing a suit is not appealing. It's a trap, Gil-dong!

Even less appealing is the multitasking Jacqueline-of-all-trades secretary. (Been there, done that. It's highly overrated.) When I saw the phrase "actively passive," all I could think of was militantly passive-aggressive goldbricker Wally from the Dilbert comic strip.

Color me underwhelmed.

Agreed. A villain role would do him wonders. I know he's fully capable of it. His height would be freaking scary for such a role. Lol.

I'm thinking Kim Young-kwang in LOOKOUT and Kim Jae-wook in VOICE. Not to mention Lee Joon-gi and Hong Jong-hyun in MOON LOVERS.

By now Yoon Kyun-sang has performed in a wide enough range of roles that I don't think he would be Boris Karloff'd. I'd be tickled pink if he could pull off a Cha Seung-won and turn into a chameleon with sageuk gravitas, comedic rom-com timing, and all the cuddly warmth of a famished shark.

I agree, it's a very cliché sounding character and boring sounding storyline.

But for villain/antihero role, have you seen him in Pinocchio? I noticed him there, he was only a minor character but he made me cry and sympathise with him even though he did something awful. I think everyone fell in love with hyung in that drama.

I like that now in the synopsis it is important to bring forth the distinction that the protagonist is NOT a genius.

This reminds me of the romance we should've gotten in Introverted Boss, which was the boss with the original secretary who committed suicide. Now that drama would have been ace.

Sometimes we viewers will stay until the end for less-intriguing premise, so I don't want to be pessimistic for now until I see more. This kind of plot is all up to writing and execution. This can be an entertaining drama, but I wish they change the description of secretary. I want another secretary like Kim Hyun-joo's role in What Happens In My Family -competent and multi tasking but not passive.

Script ~ romantic theme. He is more capable that just playing drama with combination of romance, thriller n comedy ~ story of with substance .

There is nothing wrong with playing a role in a drama that's purely romance too.

I'm so happy, but also really nervous about the news. I'm excited to see Yoon Kyun Sang again in a drama, but I'm also worried about almost everything. I want it to be good, I'm worried if people (or me) won't be liking it, I'm worried if he'll get bad comments because of it.

Waiting for the drama is really fun yet frustrating. It has always happened when it comes to my favorite actors. Please tell me that somebody else felt the same as me when they think about their fav actors..

LOL, you're not alone. Things that we fans can do for our favs -checking every little info about them, daily. That's me. And then when there's no news, frustrated yet the next day check it again.. After waiting about their projects, we will get anxious, thinking about the public reactions, and also our own reactions. The fun and frustration at the same time. I think if there's paid job, I would've change my job already! 😆 But yeah I totally understand about your feeling

Oh, that probably would be a dream job for every fangirl ! Getting money for something that you love and cherish in your life :)

Anyway, imagine when you read a news about a drama and you just went, "oh". I'd rather feel "the fun and frustration at the same time" than feel nothing about a drama ;)

I don't know but I feel that drama scriptwriters should grasp their audience's tastes more these days. Scrolling down the comment section, I've seen many Beanies wanting a role reversal in the characters like I do.

I thought the description of the characters sounded like it was lifted from Robert Galbraith's new mystery series that takes place in London about a private detective, Cormoran Strike and his Girl Friday, Robin Ellacott. Past boxer included. Robert Galbraith is the Nom de Plume for J.K. Rowling. Very fun books to read by the way. I'll be looking forward to this series.
