Yoo Ji-tae offered new KBS mystery thriller Double Play

After tvN’s remake of The Good Wife, I can only think of Yoo Ji-tae as a hot, smoldering evil bastard, but he’s potentially going to turn that image around for his next role. I can’t tell if I’m happy or sad about that, but maybe having Yoo Ji-tae back in a new drama is all that matters. He’s currently received an offer to star in KBS’s new crime thriller Double Play, and is considering the part of a geeeeeeeenius investigator.

The new “stylish investigative” series is described as a moving mystery action thriller, and it’s about a cold case team that takes on the toughest unsolved cases and always fights to stand up for those who are weak. No one will be above the law, and through the team solving cases based on true events and punishing the wicked, the drama promises satisfying catharsis, comfort, and healing. That seems like it’s promising a lot, but it’s also in keeping with the tenor of a very popular trend in Korean dramas at the moment—criminals who think they’re above the law being brought to justice in refreshingly gratifying ways, whether it’s in thrillers like Defendant or comedies like Chief Kim.

Yoo Ji-tae is up for the role of an investigator in the unsolved crimes unit, a genius with exceptional powers of deduction. He solves the most puzzling of the cold cases that no one else has been able to unravel, and has unparalleled charisma. Smolder on. He’ll have a bromance with another investigator who has yet to be cast—a quirky oddball character who always gets in that one good shot in the important moment. Sounds like buddy cop hijinks just waiting to happen.

Double Play will be helmed by PD Kim Jung-hyun (second PD on Full Sun, drama specials Finding Argenta, The Last Puzzle) and is confirmed to air on KBS, though the broadcast date is yet to be determined.

"After tvN’s remake of The Good Wife, I can only think of Yoo Ji-tae as a hot, smoldering evil bastard" I never saw the good wife, so I just remember him as the guy that was in love with the mother... or daughter (still not sure which???) from healer.
Having only seen him in healer, I can see him playing this character well :)

I wasn't fond of him in Healer, but he was amazing in The Good Wife! It was such a good drama.

I think he was in love with the mother and was a bit obsessed with protecting her daughter.......loved him in Healer too though.

Interesting. In Healer I felt he loved the mother, but was not IN LOVE with her. I never got those vibes.

I'm just in love with him. Haha. He's amazing in The Good Wife and I just hate that I really want things to go by his character's way even though he was a selfish bastard.

Ooooo. How lucky to have him doing so many dramas lately! I love him as an evil bastard, but it will be exciting to see him at the center of a show as a protagonist. Looks like we'll be getting lots of thrillers this year to go with our sageuks.

I have to admit though, I like the description of the partner more than the geeeeeenius investigator role. It's too bad it isn't possible for Seo In-guk to do it because he'd be great in a role like that.

Ah yes, hot and smoldering indeed! ♥ I watched him in Healer and found him just attractive but by golly he plays bad so well. The way he played Lee Tae Joon in TGW was so great, it was the first time I rooted for the "bad" guy

Welcome Yoo Ji Tae to the long line of recent geeeeeeeeeeeenius' that Dramaland's offered us in the last couple of months or should I say years? Now this is having me wish that someone would write a story where we have all the geeeeeeeeeeeeeniuses come together and try to out genius each other. I wonder who would win in that circumstance? The genius investigator? The genius chaebol sharpshooter? The genius surgeon who's learning how to feel again? The genius psychopath who's on loan from the prison where he's presently cooling his jets with his other criminal buddies: Goo Tak, Woong Chul and Tae Soo? The genius former ex-psychopath who's currently chasing another genius psychopathic killer on the run? The genius goofy writer who was hiding in a magazine studio? The genius maths lecturer who takes a break from a quiz show also run by another genius? The genius alien who's finally figured out a way to stay on earth long enough without vanishing (or does he not count cuz he's an alien and has an unfair advantage?) The genius autistic doctor who's received recognition amidst his peers? Or maybe in their brilliance, they will just gang up to take over the world together.

Although I wish it would be on OCN instead. I'm worried it'll be boring if it's on KBS and Yoo Ji-tae is way too good to waste.

I really enjoy that most of the dramas coming out this year are law/criminal/thriller. But I can't help to be concerned that by August we'll be overwhelmed and annoyed after having watched the same types of plots all year. Too much of something isn't good

Also -- I read "The new “stylish investigative” series is described..." really quickly so my brain thought girlfriday was saying Yoo Ji-tae will be a "stylish investigator" on top of being a geeeeeeeeeenius. LOL.

"W" was brilliant meta story telling. That heartbreaking moment when he is in the book store reading the story of his life, how all his grief and pain were "to be continued" moments created by an author God who is starting to fear/hate his creation. Lee Jong-Suk was so good as Kang Chul.

I'm really tired of crimes dramas, I mean there is always a reason why I want to watch them (usually the awesome actors and actresses that are cast) but I can not stand the stereotypical roles that are displayed. I mean, about Tunnel for example : nope, @ the psychologist who sounds like a cold serial killer. sigh.
I'll probably check this one out because Yoo Ji Tae. But here we go again with the unoriginal trope about the genius detective.
He solves the most puzzling of the cold cases that no one else has been able to unravel, and has unparalleled charisma.
I count on him for the charisma, but I really hope the cases will be coherent and truly impressive if that's the plot they're going with...
I wish TEN season 3 would come back, this is a crime/detective show that truly impressed me. I miss it!
