Shin Ha-kyun confirms, D.O. considers murder mystery Room 7 as next project

Just on the heels of the trailer release for his latest film Hyung, EXO’s D.O. (I Remember You) is in the news again for a potential upcoming project. He has received an offer to star in a movie called Room 7. Actor Shin Ha-kyun (Pied Piper) has already confirmed his part as the lead.

The new movie is a crime thriller about the mystery surrounding a homicide case of a victim found in Room 7 of a DVD-bang. In Korea, various bang (meaning “room”) are essentially specialized stations or rooms that you can rent out for entertainment, and they can range from a noraebang to sing karaoke, or a PC-bang to play computer games with friends. A DVD-bang is exactly what it seems: a small dark enclosed room with a TV and couch where you can rent and watch a movie. Therefore, it’s plausible that someone could be killed in a DVD-bang with no one noticing for hours. The DVD rental staff often don’t bother their customers until their allotted movie time runs out, and even then probably don’t enter the room until another customer makes a reservation.

Shin Ha-kyun is set to play the owner of a failing DVD-bang. He wants to sell it and move onto bigger and better things, but that dream seems no longer possible when he discovers a corpse on the premises of his business. If D.O. confirms, he will play Shin Ha-kyun’s part-timer, who works at the DVD rental shop with him.

The director of the award-winning dramatic film Ten Minutes, Lee Yong-seung, is taking the lead on Room 7. He’s a relative rookie in the entertainment world, but he’s been lauded since his undergrad days when he created Richard, the Elite University Student from London, which went on to win Best Film at the Mise-en-Scene Short Film Festival. Meanwhile, D.O. is currently in the middle of filming fantasy saga With the Gods, based on a popular webtoon by the same name. So it looks like we’ll probably have to get pretty far into next year to see Room 7 in theaters.
