Ha Jung-woo lines up Andre Kim biopic and military thriller next

Chungmuro mainstay Ha Jung-woo (Agassi, Assassination) never has any shortage of projects, but the coming year looks to be a particularly busy one for him. He’s currently giving interviews at Cannes while promoting Agassi, the Park Chan-wook film that just premiered at the festival, and he discussed the next three movies he’s got lined up, beginning with fantasy saga With the Gods, followed by an Andre Kim biopic, and then a military action thriller. All three movies are reunions with directors he’s worked with before on successful projects.

There’s already a lot of anticipation for the upcoming fantasy film series With the Gods (directed by Kim Yong-hwa of Take Off), where Ha Jung-woo will play a reaper who escorts souls to the afterlife. Cha Tae-hyun co-stars as an everyman who goes through trials to determine his ultimate fate, and Lee Jung-jae plays the king of hell who rules over all the other gods. The two-part epic will be filmed all at once beginning in late May, and Ha Jung-woo said, “The 8-month-long saga will begin soon.” Yikes, that’s a long shoot.

After that project, he’ll be moving on to Andre Kim, a biopic about the famous eccentric Korean fashion designer Andre Kim who passed away in 2010. The film has been in development for over two years already, with director Sohn Young-sung of legal thriller The Client at the helm. Ha Jung-woo is set to play Andre Kim in the film, set in the design world of 1960s Korea.

He said about the project, “We’re finally going to shoot it. There were an enormous number of versions of the script. We finally have one that’s satisfying. The director’s face began to shine.” Truth be told, I’ve never understood Andre Kim’s aesthetic, but I am interested to see the transformation Ha Jung-woo will undergo to play him. Hey, he shaved his head for Kundo, so I figure there’s not much he won’t do for a character.

Then after that movie, Ha’s third director reunion will be with Kim Byung-woo of the super tense thriller The Terror Live. They’re teaming up for a new film called PMC (or Private Military Company), about the members of a private mercenary company and an incident in an underground bunker.

That’s pretty vague, but The Terror Live is a great example of how you can put a guy in a room and turn it into an intense thriller — Ha Jung-woo played a news anchor who takes a call from a terrorist on live radio as the attacks are taking place in real time. I have no doubt that this director could lock a bunch of guys in a basement and turn it into a full-scale disaster. Script work is still being done on PMC, but it’ll probably be a while before Ha Jung-woo is done with the other two films anyway. Busy, busy.

In the meantime, Agassi will be released in Korea on June 1, and With the Gods plans to hit theaters next summer.

At his movie rate, I just hope that one of my fave actors will be in any movie that had him. Since With God already confirmed the line up. Got 2-3 movies to go.

So he will played Andre Kim when he was young. Oh, well if it like in year 2000. At least maybe we can have cameo from all celebrities that have grace his fashion shows.

He has been the most sought after actor in Chungmuro for a while now. It takes a year to have him commit to a movie.

Like you, I hope my favorites who are still doing dramas will get a chance to work with him.

I know I have been lately asking for suggestions a lot of the time but Korean cinema is actually interesting me.
Most of the news regarding Chungmuro these days are movies that are either thriller, suspense, horror, action or art.

Are these the main genre in Korean cinema?
Because amongst those I'm always up for art and then maybe thriller.Just trying to analyze without watching a single movie that will I be able to watch these movies. I know its silly.

Thrillers are the strongest genre in Korean cinema, personally, once I started watching Korean Thrillers I can't enjoy them from any other industry, they have this raw nature that makes the story go anywhere, you seriously can't tell what will happen next or how the story will end, which is refreshing compared to Hollywood movies that are predictable (not all of them naturally but most of them)
Also you can't go wrong with Ha Jung Woo, I watched his whole filmography & I am yet to be disappointed by his movies, he has the sharpest sense when it comes to chosing projects, so while I am not very swayed with the With the Gods plot, but I have blind faith HJW will make it worthwhile

He looks kinda stoned here, in an immensely attractive sort of way. I'm sure he can play "eccentric" pretty well, based on this one shot of him. Ha.

My korean husband keeps keeping busy :D. I have watched every single movie he has ever done and he is amazing in each and everyone. I cannot wait for all these three or for the day Ahjussi is subbed in the distant future so I may watch and drown in my fangirl love.

Great picture selection.

Not to like sound shallow or anything.

But Oh! My! Gerd!! He is sooo hot..

So this is the Ha Jung Woo I've hearing(reading?) about?

OMO! that perfect bow-shaped lips <3_<3

Why is my heart beating so fast??

Why do I even find the forehead wrinkle sexy?

Omona! Have I.....perhaps.....fallen... in love?

I think of him as the crown prince of Chungmuro. He is there to rule till the end of his career. I'd say that he is the youngest of the mega stars of Chungmuro.

For a greenie director and writer, I think he did a good job with Chronicle of a Blood Merchant. Obviously there is still room for improvement so I hope he'll continue to challenge himself.

So PMC would be the one with Bae Dona and Oh Dalsu? I heard about the casting news last year.

Hot Ahjusshi's movie lines up look awesome, the only downside is it takes literally YEARS till we finally get to see these on big screen. Patience, patience.

Meanwhile, waiting for people reviews on Agasshi, the trailer wet my appetite like no other.

"The Tunnel" is his film project with Bae Doona and Oh Dalsu. Kim Sung-Hoon (Hard Day) is the director.

I think Agassi will have a ww release with subs at some point.

I read a few reviews from Cannes and it's making me nervous. It might not be for me but still excited that it's competing for the top prize.
