Go Kyung-pyo considering Jealousy Incarnate
by tineybeanie
Go Kyung-pyo (Answer Me 1988) is considering joining the upcoming SBS rom-com drama Jealousy Incarnate for his next project. He has been offered the role of the second male lead in the drama that has already confirmed Gong Hyo-jin (It’s Okay, It’s Love) and Jo Jung-seok (Oh My Ghostess), who play its main couple in the upbeat love story that takes place in the competitive atmosphere of a news broadcasting station.
Go’s character is named Go Jung-won and is described as a polite, friendly man who is serious when it comes to love. He runs his own publishing company, but he is also the second son in a chaebol family with a large corporation that manages several luxury clothing brands.
If Go decides to take the role, he’s likely to have a loveline with Gong’s character, Pyo Na-ri. She is a cute weather girl at the news station who is optimistic yet starved for love. Graduating from a third-rate college and having no money or connections, Na-ri is full of insecurities, but continues to persevere and work hard to keep her place at the station.
On the other hand, Jo’s character Lee Hwa-shin is the complete opposite of Na-ri. Hwa-shin is an eye-catching manly anchor with a great education and background, and he’s also completely dogged about his work. Already, I can imagine the clashes that will occur and end in lovey-dovey hijinks.
Refreshing romantic comedy Jealousy Incarnate plans to start airing this coming September as a Wednesday-Thursday drama.

I'm having mixed feelings about this. I'm happy because I want him to keep getting roles in potentially big dramas. But, I don't want a love triangle. Can't he get his own romance instead? You know, "two couples in a drama" kind of thing. Plus, gong hyo Jim and him? not really feeling it. Anyway, looking forward to this drama. If he does accept, may it be a springing board for even bigger successes for him

Gong HyoJin's one of the few actresses that can have a chemistry with whoever she costars with, may it be younger or older than her. I hope Go KyungPyo will sign on, he'll learn lots from Jo JungSeok and HyoJin. ^_^

So basically nice, rich second lead?
The character descriptions basically describe 70% of dramaland characters.
Prickly male lead check
Poor candy heroine check
Nice 2nd lead check

The description sounds like every kdrama rom com ever. I love the lead actors and will watch it for them. But it's beyond me why you are describing it as a "refreshing romantic comedy". It's just gonna use the same bland prickly male lead candy heroine sweet second lead formalua. Nothing refreshing about that.

She probably took that off a Korean article verbatim.
Korean entertainment reporters like to do that sort of thing.

Except that this writer does not write conventional characters. Pasta and Miss Korea do not have any chaebol or evil second female lead. Even the second lead in Miss Korea who is pining for the lead girl is not exactly nice. And both dramas are very much character driven.

Well, I was so excited about this drama because JO JUNG SEOK but then I read the description again... a probably rude chaebol, a candy and a cute chaebol... Sounds like something ive watched on air a gazillion times... Im gonna try to watch because I looove JJS & like GHJ and id like to see GKP on tv again but tv people: its your job to sell these dramas to us, put some effort on those descriptions! Idk if theyre being mysterious or just lazy...

Love all three confirmed leads to the moon and back but why, whyyyy the story is like that? Sounds like every cliche drama story we are all so tired of hearing already. Really wish they bring something new to the table :/

I am so sad that my all time favorite JJK will be acting next to the all time over rated actress Gong Hyo Jin really.....
I am not watching this because of her even if JJK is here!
? There are so many great female leads...why her?

Gong HyoJin became what she is now because she is a versatile actress. Over rated in what way?

Sighhhhh. It's always the same person posting something in the same vein in every gong post here. It's fine if you don't like her but really...It's kinda a bit much to leave a comment (usually exclaiming your disbelief of her being well-loved) in almost every post related to her.
I'm most looking forward to this one and the upcoming Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun drama this year. A mermaid drama and a classic romcom done right by GHJ! Can't wait!

This is an oft-repeated claim by a select few posters.
So praytell who are the other actresses who can do dramatic and comedic scenes w/ equal aplomb?
There's a reason why GHJ is known as the "Queen of Romcom."
Only other actress that can rival what GHJ does is Seo Hyun-jin.
Would also say Park Bo-young but she mostly does films and Kim Seul-gi, while showing great promise, has yet to carry a romcom as the lead (aside from the short drama SSL).
Probably are a few other actresses, but the list isn't that big.
As for Go Kyung-pyo, he was a bit overshadowed by some of his co-stars from AM1988, but not w/ acting where he did a superb job - has a bright future ahead of him and should eventually graduate to leading man status.

Make her a cute weather girl with a twisted dark side. She has refined the Art of being a Cute Candy Girl to perfection. She has amassed a formidable range of Cute Faces for Different Occasions. She has mastered the Skill of Tottering Cutely while Running Impossible Tasks. She schemes day in and day out to take over the manly anchor's job, even though she is swayed by his manly abs, which glisten and beckon to her, shape and reshape in tantalising ways and make her mind go fuzzy and funny under the bright lights of the TV cameras. She painstakingly worms her way into the second chaebol heir's affections, using every skill she has in her Candy Girl's Handbook. The only one who knows the Real Na Ri is her cat Whiskers who tries desperately to warn the milkman and the ahjussi next door of his evil owner's real intentions, but his meows fall on deaf ears...

KBS and SBS was not fighting over this drama. Those stations actually fought because of Gong Hyo Jin to be exact
She is Gongvely. She is really loved by the public and her dramas tend to doing very well in both Korea and overseas.

I absolutely really really love JJS and GHJ, in fact they're my favourite male and female actors.
But jeez, this really sounds like a boring, done that a thousand times premise.
You better make this fun, people!

I feel like I've read this same plot description a hundred times before. It's gotten to a point where simply reading these kind of synopses makes me yawn, nevermind watching the actual drama. Sad.
Yes, you can still take a dated premise and make it interesting, but that's the exception to the norm and most of these dramas turn out exactly how you would expect.
More time to watch good older dramas I have missed and the few gems that come out every year I guess.

Don't know what everyone was expecting, something fresh from a trendy? Even more eye-catching and supposedly original premises just boil down to rearranging the furniture (You From Another Star wasn't exactly Joseon X-Files in trendy clothing, for example). imo the best we can hope for these days is charming leads with chemistry and a PD that can inject some spontaneity into the proceedings. Jo Jeong-seok and Gong Hyo-jin are a step in the right direction, at the very least.

Well those "rearranging old furniture" dramas aren't much better, but here it seems like they didn't even try to make it seem exciting. I mean they could have said "this is your usual rom-com with a Candy heroine, a prickly rich guy and a super nice second lead pining for her, but it's with GHJ and JJS" and it would have gotten the story across just as well.
Personally I don't feel like lowering my standards for rom-coms just because dramaland isn't able to bring something a little bit more interesting to the table. It's true I am watching a lot less dramas these days and I never live-watch, but on the upside I haven't seen a bad drama in ages.

Fair enough, I'm not a fan of trendies these days myself. Thankfully we'll always have old classics to go back to. :) I'm just saying that the more watchable ones in the past couple years have relied on the leads and PD over the writing. For an example, look at Oh My Ghost and YFAS. The writing was execrable in Oh My Ghost and YFAS, but they made the usual shenanigans feel a bit fresher by choosing good leads and then giving them a ton of leeway (Jeon Ji-hyun playing a sillier version of herself in YFAS, PBY and Jo Jeong-seok riffing off each other in OMG). Add to that two PDs who actually know what they're doing--Jang Tae-yoo directed Painter of the Wind and Tree With Deep Roots before doing YFAS, and Yoo Je-won is that rare trendy PD who seems to have a sense for spontaneity and organic storytelling--and we had two watchable shows on our hands.

I don't care if the plot looks/sounds boring. I enjoyed every Gong Hyo Jin drama so I know I will enjoy this too! I really hope that this drama become a success to show others that it's not the plot but the execution (acting, directing etc.) that will define a good drama! Go go Gong Hyo Jin, I believe in you and the rest of the cast and staff!
