Yoo In-young jumps aboard cast of Goodbye Mr. Black

Ah, we’ve got more movement on MBC’s Goodbye Mr. Black, the revengey romance thriller starring Lee Jin-wook as the betrayed hero who returns with plucky Moon Chae-won at his side to claim payback. Joining them is Yoo In-young, who has been steadily putting in solid performances in a string of supporting roles (You From Another Star, Mask, Oh My Venus).

In the drama, Yoo In-young will play the wife of a chaebol and the director of a social welfare foundation. She’s described as having once loved a man, only to have to marry his enemy; Lee Jin-wook is “her first and last love,” and Kim Kang-woo is her backstabber of a husband (considering that he was once the hero’s friend). Thus she becomes a tool for revenge after the hero disguises his identity and returns home with a fake wife (Moon Chae-won) who ends up leading him back to emotional healing.

A couple things about this casting: This setup once again pits Yoo In-young against Lee Jin-wook as a former lover and current antagonist, after the two played out that dynamic in the fusion sageuk Three Musketeers. Their chemistry was pretty sizzling—it was half due to lingering feelings and half in angry resentment, but the rage just made for brighter sparks. Second, I’m looking forward to seeing Kim Kang-woo revisiting his darker side; I enjoy him as the good-guy hero (Golden Cross), but find him downright arresting as the bad guy (Story of a Man). And while Yoo really ought to get her leading lady break any day now, I’m actually happy to see her playing second leads for the time being, in that she at least makes those characters interesting and vulnerable, and not stock bitch types. I’m sure she’ll have her day in the spotlight, though, and hopefully soon.

Also in the supporting cast: Song Jae-rim (Surplus Princess) and Daniel Henny, who returns to Korean dramas (his last being 2010’s Runaway Plan B) after spending the past few years mostly in overseas projects.

Goodbye Mr. Black will follow One More Happy Ending, to premiere in March 2016.

Good because I do not find kim kang woo appealing at all as a leading man. LJW needs a good drama role after that last turkey.

What are you talking about, his last role was The Three Muskuteers and it was awesome!! *Completely in denial that The Time we were once in love happened*

Anyways, this show is shaping up quite nicely. I like the premise and have been enjoying Yoo In Young in all her shows (YFAS, Mask and currently oh my venus) and her acting style gives her character's dimension that its impossible not to sympathise with them. I like Kim Kang Woo as an actor but did not enjoy his Golden Cross character, I felt he was much more compelling in darker characters such as Missing Noir M (Story of a Man is one my watch list). Definitely looking forward to this!

I hope to god this one is good. Moon Chae-won's had a pretty good eye for dramas over the last few years, so I hope this isn't a waste of its cast.

Big big fan of Yoo In-Young. I love the fact that she's a chameleon with her hairstyles. Her hairstyles - the color, length, and type of cut - there's always something new and something to excite us visually. She reminds me of iconic supermodel Linda Evangelista in that regard.

Mbc please I beg you don't screw this up. You've such a stellar cast you can't possibly ruin things for me. Please.

Also, with a three musketeers reunion so soon, can I have a Seo Hyun Jin - Lee Jin Wook pairing ASAP too? And a Jung Yumi one too? Santa are you still listening to me? Lol

Kim Kang-woo's character in Story of a Man still stands as my favorite villain. I really hope that this show will not let me down. Now I'm more excited as Yoo In-young is great. And she's gorgeous. I'll keep my expectations at a decent level though.

Ditto, Kim Kang Woo was so impressive in that & don't forget Park Ki Wong's genius there too. Story of Man is one of the best KDRamas there is. The ensemble made that drama stand out! Watch it!

I'm hoping now that her and LJW characters will run off into the sunset together. They had amazing chemistry, I was half expecting them to claw each others clothes off based off their chemistry.
I'm glad she's not portraying another b***h role that she has portrayed before, she deserves leading lady parts.

Yoo In Young seems to have built a career off second lead bitchy characters, complete with the short hair. In her case she enfuses them with empathy, vulnerability and warmth. I like it that she finds steady work, but I fear that she has been pigeonholed and typecast. For her sake I hope she branches out and plays other types of roles. I would like to see her in a lead role real soon. She's a gorgeous woman, and she certainly has the acting chops for it.

I almost forgot about this drama, but I'm stoked with the cast!! Please be gooood.
How can you not love hubby Kim Kang-woo?? I really like her in these kind of roles, she actually does bring more depth to otherwise blank second leads.

It sounds like a good drama, i'll probably watch it. and there's also a new drama premiering this weekend on KBS, Jang Young Sil. Could you add it to the list, it's a little depressing seeing how many dramas are not airing this week!

Looking forward to this drama. Cast is super interesting and definitely an eye candy. Could end up being a diamond among all the highly anticipated drama in 2016 aka DotS or Saimdang. I would love to see GMB burn all these dramas. :P

I am so thrilled with her casting. Actually her character description in the article matches "Mercedes" in the novel.

With a cast like this, the writing better be just as good. Lee Jin-wook and Kim Kang-woo as frenemies will be awesome. Yoo In-young will also be awesome (and as much as I loved the main pairing in Three Musketeers, I loved seeing LJW and YIY on-screen together; hopefully that will remain the same in this drama). Also, I can already imagine the hate-chemistry between YIY and KKW. That should also be good.

I do wonder if Daniel Henney has gotten better in the last few years abroad. True, he isn't a great actor, but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.

I haven't had good luck catching In Young on screen. Can someone suggest a part she's played in which she smiles sometimes?

In Young is one of the best villains there is... In Three Musketeers, she played Lee Jin Wook's first love...

Please, i hope Yoo In Young will not be wasted again. I feel sorry for her in OMV. She is my fav actress who can turn a villain to someone that we love and cry when she died, such as on Mask. I cried when she died in Empress Ki as well.

I loveee LJW and MCW, but if this drama goes like Mask, when during earlier episodes, i liked the main leads relationship, but when the drama about to end, my love changed to second lead, i am ready for it.

Yoo In-young has been quite good in her recent projects.

I still remember her drinking that wine out of a wineglass with a straw in Mask!

:O the interwebs ate my comment T_____T

Anyway, I'm glad she's in this. It makes you more excited for Mercedes character now since YIY probably won't let it be a doormat-type of character. :))))

(Also, hi Rim Oppar I'm glad this drama is still moving along...)
