The two faces of Yoon Kye-sang in JTBC’s Last
by javabeans
JTBC, you are killing me with your Last teasers. Omgah, what will it take for you to make some that actually move??
Sure, they look slick and cool and thriller-esque, I’ll give you that on the style front… but basically, every teaser has been just a collection of stills set to music. No moving people! Are we sure this is a drama and not, say, a fancy cable-station slideshow? Most expensive Powerpoint presentation ever?
The plot of action noir series Last sounds plenty intriguing, so I’m dying for the previews to actually do something with the fund-manager-turned-homeless-man protagonist (played by Yoon Kye-sang, who’s working a nice smolder) who descends into the underbelly of Seoul. There, he faces off against all sorts of unsavory types, including the underworld boss played by Lee Beom-soo, and what ensues is a vicious battle involving 100 million won. But can you get any of that from the videos? Not even a little.
In the teaser below, the text reads, “To get out of this hell, I’ll make it to the top of hell!”
Last is directed by PD Jo Nam-gook of The Chaser and Empire of Gold and written by Han Ji-hoon of blockbuster film Taegukgi and action thriller drama Time of Dog and Wolf. The series will be JTBC’s next Friday-Saturday drama and premieres in July.

Peace called him oppa, Lola called him ahjussi. I'm here to call him dongseng, or whatever Korean cougars call their cubs.
That aside, I'm looking forward to it

Oh, Yoon Kye-sang, just know that Full Sun means the world to me. You are a super handsome oppa, and what you did to me as Jung Sero in Full Sun engraved that actual drama deep into the core of my being. My faith for melodrama reached its peak, and I crave for more pain. It is for pain like Jung Sero's that life is worth living for. It is pain that is not painful at all. I mean, at all. It is beauty disguised in the word pain. It is the very essence of dramas to start with. I love Yoon Kye-sang ever since that. Ever. Since. Full. Sun. Aka. Beyond. The. Clouds.

That is a beautiful ode, to the drama, and to the actor...

In the next teaser, their eyebrows will be animated. A few teasers down we might even see an eye twitching.

LOL, @Orion...
You're killing me! I liked what I've just watched till I read your comment. I'm looking forward for this drama but you made me laugh out loud plus out of this teaser's mood...WHY??? ;-)

I like them too, they are very stylish. It's good that they started releasing them when we have a month left until it airs, but I do hope we have actual scenes from the show coming soon.
Perhaps that's their plan. Start early, keep flashing people with these and build up to more and more scenes included. Who knows. On one hand, it's working and on the other it is kind of frustrating. A month is a long time to wait and a few stills won't cut it.
As nice as two soaked hotties in fancy suits are to look at, we do need some feel for the actual show here. :P

JTBC hardly ever disappoints me; with that one exception of Chives (and I can't totally blaim them for that, though the production team should have handled it better from the start, imho), the network's projects do have a quality above average. Having big names in their dramas w/o most of mainstream channels' restrictions is a strong basis anyway and I luuuv them for their determination. But you're right, a month is indeed a bit toooo long :-D

Lee Beom-soo playing an underworld boss. ..... That alone is enough to tune in.
